Battery shortage leading to delayed MBP?

Just read the story about 8 million batteries being recalled causing a shortage until june 07. Could this be contributing to the MBP not showing up sooner?

I'd like to say that can't be true, but given the breadth of the companies who recalled batteries, it just might affect it. I submitted my request for new battery the day the recall was announced, and it's not shown up yet... granted the volume needing replacement is large, and granted they claimed this upfront, so I'm not really upset about it...

But yeah... that would suck if that was the reason.

How long after it shows up on the APPLE.com website before they usually send out an e-mail.. ??

They ususally send e-mails out showcasing the new products sometime that same day, although I've gotten e-mails some time the day after.

With Apple actually, usually a new product announcement like this would coincide with immediate or at least relatively soon shipping. Apple generally doesn't usually announce a product well in advance of it actually being available, because they don't want to have a negative impact on current sales.

No necessarily. Some products are announced with immediate shipping.

Thanksgiving is November 23 • Generik Has Hijacked "Full Laptop Refresh By Holidays?"

Is there another show-type-thing coming up any time soon that they may say something about the C2D MBP's?

I am forced to buy something before the end of November, so my time is limited. Appleinsider said before thanksgiving yea? When is thanksgiving...? (Australian here, I don't even know what the hell the day is for :D) Is it mid/late November? I hope so :(
November 23.

That Full Laptop Refresh By Holidays? thread has been hijacked by a Windoze Troll by the name of Generik. The guy is full on about how great Sony Vaios are and what crap Apple makes with limited selection and that Apple should license OS X so anyone can run it on any Intel PC. It's really quite sad how much he is dominating that thread now. The guy is like a Japaneese Kamakazie. Crazy.  He just repeatedly attacks anyone who replies to him.

Apple will be mad to not update before thanks giving, my local non-apple apple store in UK has had no MBPs for 3 weeks. They are hoping within 2 weeks.

i hope before end of oct to get cheap printer, but i am 95% sure it will be before thanks giving

Iremember an employee at the mac store telling me that they can see shipments coming to the store 7 days in advance... And although they can't see what is being shipped to them... They can often make decent guesses...so if none of the stores show substantial shipments coming in then we may be more than 7 days from new mbps

remember i was on about a non-apple apple store, they may get less stock or hear about thinks later etc

Not sure if this was posted (i decided to skip reading the 12 pages of posts) but Best Buy (who now sells MBs and MBpros) just removed the MBpros from thier online store.

I called the store close to me and I had them search as well. The rep was just as supprised as I was that the MBpros weren't on there.

In so far as I am looking to buy a new MBpro, I think I going to wait till the end of the month now. (Also, has anyone had good experience with the bestbuy replacement plan and replacing macs?)

/good sign

If/when the new MBP are released there is no guarantee that they will be in stores that day. They might be seven days out as not too tip off the stores.

Frys electronic in california is having a one day (today OCTOBER 12th) blow out sale on mac book pros...

more clues.....

I am pretty sure Fry's or BestBuy or wherever don't know about any upcoming Apple products. They are probably having a hard time selling the current model becasue of its outdated technology. They are probably speculating like we are.

Not with a MBP, but I bought a widescreen Sony a few years ago with the extended coverage. A little over 3 years later, by a matter of days, all the boards in it fried for no apparent reason. I freaked, as I thought the coverge was only 3 years. Come to find out it was 4. Called em, and a local authorized repair shop came to check it out. They ended up taking it back to the shop. The warranty company called 2 days later and said BB would be delivering a new one, and the old one was "beyond repair".

As it relates to MBP's, I don't know. But the coverage should be the same. Either that, or they sell you Apple Care instead.

I don't know, they might at least know something about availability of the old model.

Just as a random example, the Toshiba P105-S9312 (a Core Duo gaming laptop) disappeared from the Best Buy site. A few days later, the Core 2 Duo P105-S9722 was announced, and the new model is now available on their site instead.

But I am pretty sure Toshiba isn't as tight lipped about their products as Apple. They probably told BestBuy it was coming. Not a big deal because there isn't toshibarumors.com website for the employees to run off to, AFAIK.

I don't think of the Core Duo as outdated

Isn't the Core Duo still a viable product? I believe all manufacturers are still selling it in current models. The Core 2 Duo is the newest kid but that doesn't mean the Core Duo is incapable of running 100% of what is out there today.
I think more accurately, what Apple is doing is charging too much for their current products. For the price, Apple should have a faster GPU and the newer CPU, but they could still quite reasonably offer the Core Duo and Radeon X1600, if they adjusted their prices accordingly.
I just hate to see a good product like the Core Duo get a bad rap. It may be "older" but it is not down-and-out... :)

It is still a good chip. But, you cannot build a Dell with the specs of a MBP. They have gone to almost all C2D. There are probably some left over retail models out there.

Bingo. But Apple has always, somewhat, claimed to have the top of the line hardware. That is just not the case right now.

Troll or not I do not negotiate with any vendor trying to blackmail me into buying an old system at modern prices on the basis of an OS of which I have to make countless adjustments for

negotiate?
blackmail?

What the hell are you talking about? If you don't want it don't buy it. And if you don't like OS X, who cares? Shut up and buy a Windows machine.

What are you trying to accomplish here? All you do is post on how Apple is stealing your money and OS X sucks. Give us a break.
