speaking of Mage Hand, you could have used it when we were down to bring the rope up to the bridge, loop it a couple of time around the rails, and down the other side, without need for the nearly impossible climb of the wall.
similarly, but less elegant and effective, we could have just tossed half coil of the rope over the bridge and recover it from the other side

*To myself. Ah, I have until recently been an acolyte; that solution simply never occurred to me. Do, please remind me of some of my abilities - and not merely the ones required to keep aristocratic raiment clean - so that they may be of some use to us.*

>>> Yep, washed up at the blind (the area where you killed the two goblins)

Whispered oath in Elven High Archaic.

A long walk back, then. Even when he does recover his wits.

Can we loot Claus or nah? Asking for a friend...

:p

*To myself: Not unless you wish to scramble down and retrieve his goods and chattels……..while we await your return on this rickety bridge.*

>>> but hey, that climb was badass. I couldn't believe you made it, myself.

Yes, it was. Agreed.

*To myself: And I used to disdain the martial arts, at the Hallowed Seat of Learning where I pursued my Advanced Wizarding studies.*

I will make sure there is no goblin party coming up here unnoticed.

Our scurrying goblin went east; it is very unlikely that we will catch up with him, no matter how felt of foot some of us are.

Meanwhile, those other shouts, loud and in coarse Golbindegook - and the shouts that sound as though they have come from a human throat - all appear to have emanated from the western passage.

I don't think anybody noticed us but the one going east. If we all proceed going further west to explore the shouts now (! - of course that's the most interesting part) we may end up being surrounded by the goblins ahead and those that will be alarmed by the one who saw us. Also, we don't know where the eastern passage leads to - maybe we're lucky and it's a dead end.

One should guard the western entrance in case a patrol comes up from there, and it's the best if that would be me since I have darksight and a good protection if things go wrong.

Somebody should stay here in case Claus finds his way back too.

> Master Frostbeard, while I understand your drive to go looking for gold information by yourself, I am not sure that under the current circumstances splitting the party in 3 would be the very soundest of strategies.
Not to mention i distinctly heard a human scream coming from that direction, which might well be the prisoner we are looking for.

go ahead and give a quick look, but we better hold the bridge and wait to hear from Master Fletcher.
if we don't in a couple of minutes, I am afraid that our only honorable option is to go down and seek him, should he need our help and, i daresay, your healing.

Oh, and, master Frostbeard? please try not to be back with the entire tribe fresh at your heels?

FORZA ITALIA!! FORZA JUVE!! :D

> no you misunderstood. I don't want to explore, rather make sure nobody comes up from there and surprises us from behind. I could also go back and look after Master Fletcher. But I think it's best if we try to silence that one goblin who saw us.

Two things about the shouts from the west. There are many of them, - clearly coarsely spoken goblins, and - or greeter importance - one of them appears to be human, which is something we will have to investigate further, not least because it is entirely possible that the human in question is Sildar Hallwinter, whom we seek, and whom we will attempt to rescue if possible.

My sense is that we need to keep an eye on that eastern opening, which is where that sole goblin fled. He may return at the head of a band of wrathful companions.

And yes, we do need to ensure that Claus can find us if he returns this way.

It s highly unlikely that we will have much success in catching up with the one goblin who saw us, unless we are exceedingly fleet of foot; it is better to remain where we are, and give thought to our situation instead.

Agreed, except that I recommend that Master Frostbeard take a swift look east, rather than west.

I agree, but because of that we should make sure that we can investigate that as save as possible and not with the knowledge that every moment a goblin party comes up from behind.

Second proposal, I go down and guard the western entrance with the encarpments. As far as I see it the goblin could very well escape though the garbage chute and warn is friends over there by that way. Also, I could have an even better eye on Claus.

and i would recommend you untie yourself. Walking around a goblin lair on a leash is quite... unbecoming for an elf.

mhm, should they come out from that exit, we are much better positioned from up here, where we have height advantage and can pepper them with range and magic

Very well, then; let us assume that I have unknotted that rope and have untied myself, and am pondering our position, physically and psychologically.

Is the rope to remain non the bridge, or do we retrieve it (for now), until Claus reappears?

Yes, agreed. Surrendering the advantage conferred upon us by possession of the heights would be foolish just now.

No, you misunderstood. Why would they attack from down there? He goes up the escarpments, alarms them and they come to the bridge.

I don't understand: waiting here is the worst option at all.

Alright, I go down the eastern passage. hammer and shield raised.

i take one of the half of the rope and tie a series of basic knots every couple of feet, then i put it back down.

> this should make it easier for us to climb up and down, especially Master Fletcher.
Any news of him? i am getting worried

Ah, good point. however, if he tries to make it to that passage, he will be in plain sight from here and we can take him out.
in fact, we should be ready for such an event. Portia, Syllin?
i will guard the west connection of the bridge

Plain sight? The bridge is 6m high, I doubt you can see even half the distance as it's pitch black in here. :D

>what are you talking about? have you gone blind? do you not see the blazing scimitar i am brandishing? right in front of you? lit by the power of your own god?
and syllin has dark vision as well, so she can see the goblin from far, should he attempt to pass

Light works only 20feet+20f dim sight. We don't know how far away the entrance is but it's not directly at the bridge.

well, we don't know the topology of the cave.
for what we know there could be several other passages that connect the various rooms, so the goblin might or might not have to go through that little tunnel.
however, maybe it is a good idea to light a couple of torches and fix them in place near the two bridge accesses, so that this entire area is well-lit.

it's not like our presence here is a secret anymore anyway, especially to the dwellers on the east side

Claus would be stupid to enter the cave - he wouldn't see a thing!

@ravenvii in case you missed it: I'm following the goblin to the east. But rather carefully and not blindly running after him.

he would see at least up to the wolf den, and a bit beyond, and from there he would definitively see our light and would already be within the dim light range
plus he has torches
