>Wait a second Master Luke Fletcher, i am not sure i am following.
you were attacked by a powerful Dark Lord, all dressed in black, who first tried to recruit you at the bidding of an even more powerful Dark Master, but when you refused he appeared to you as your deceased Father and then proceed to chop off your hand and leave?
are you sure? i mean, obviously it wasn't a rabbit who did this, but, the ghost of your father?

*To myself: It is clear that I should have paid even closer heed to my studies.

For some strange reason, it appears that I have but scant recall of some of the more obscure human myths, sagas and legends, immersed as I was in studying the world of goblins and dwarves, and, of course, our own Elven arcane and occasionally less than admirable history.*

And the Mage Armour remains (on me) to be used if (rather when) we are attacked, and I can still call upon two other spells?
correct, it is just a better armor than you have right now, so you get better protection for the next 8 hours (your AC goes up a little).
it is harder for them to successfully hit you, but if they do hit you, the damage is the same

Thank you.

In that case, it seems prudent for me to don the Mage Armour. And use Arcane Recovery to allow me rest and recovery time which will enable me to restore a spell slot.

Very well, then. Let us consider that Mage Armour is in the process of being donned - magic isn't always instantaneous, you know, sometimes, it takes a lot of preparation and forethought - and after that has been accomplished, a period of Arcane Recovery should allow me fresh access to two slots for spells when we resume our journey.

ok since we are taking the short rest, i stand watch, just in case.

Portia, you should use your hit dice to recover some of the hit points, and same goes for Veit, so he doesn't need to use his other spell right now.
Once the hit dice are used in a short rest, we only get them back after a long rest

Ah. In essence, are you saying that once the 'hit dice' are used to recover hit points in a short rest, if (we are) hit again, those same hit points can only be recovered in a long rest?

What he says!

I shall have a rest, some ale, and recover some of my hit points, please!

You take a well-deserved rest, although some rested better than others.

*** CHECK ***
Veit has a hit dice of 1d8, and a Constitution modifier of +2, so:

Veit: 1

Yeah, he didn't rest all that well. He now has (6 + 1 + 2 =) 9 hp.

Portia also has a hit dice of 1d8, and +1, so:

Portia: 8

Slept like a rock. Now has maximum hp (9).

Claus has a hit dice of 1d10, and +2, so:

Claus: 9

Was knocked out. Now has maximum hp (12)
*** CHECK ***

As Bartholomeus stood watch, which turned out to be an exceptionally easy task from the blind (it was designed as a watch-out after all), Syllin meditated as the others slept. Portia was asleep before she hit the ground, and Claus was knocked out from exhaustion. Veit, however, tossed and turned the whole hour, barely able to sleep.

>>> @Plutonius @Don't panic @twietee @Scepticalscribe @Moyank24 what do you do? Everyone is at maximum hp, except for Veit who has 9 hp.

Are you really sure about that? Never underestimate rabbits.

He was lucky it took off only his hand I would say!

To All: Where do we go next ? As I see it, we have the left hand passage up the escarpment, the bridge, or the hole up from the wolf room. I would probably recommend the bridge so we can retrieve Portia's rope.

> Agreed. Going further on from the bridge has the advantage that we don't have to fight upwards should it come to that + the element of surprise.

If the rope still is there that is.

Plus, it was from the bridge that we heard a human voice, which leads me to believe that we may solve the mystery of what has happened to Sildar Hallwinter, and possibly, effect a rescue, too.

Master Luke - and nay, indeed, Master Fletcher - are not the only characters who have been visited by unwelcome and unsettling images of their father bearing expressions of ill intent; I seem to recall Master Mozart also suffering from a similar nightmare - though his hand did remain firmly attached to his wrist on that occasion.

> I strongly suspect that the escarpments lead to the same area (possible prison)? But we should eventually tackle it by the bridge.

I know that I will be getting a lot of flac for saying this, but the only other possibility would be a sparation with two of us going up the escarpments (Bart and me due highest AC), raising attention while the rest of us sneakily flank from the bridge with a huge advantage. Also since we now know about the difficulties of fighting in these narrow hallways anyway.

But since we don't know the exact layout I think we probably shouldn't risk it although I - as a trained military strategist - would strongly advocate for taking that risk. Alas, if only my bataillon was here!

Hm. For now, I'm not sure that we should risk that, if only because - firstly - we don't know the numbers we can expect to face - at least twenty goblins await us, our captive goblin had informed us - and secondly, we don't know how they themselves have chosen to divide up those same numbers.

We would do well to remember that we have needed the combined skills of each of our group just to get as far as we already have, and that this has served to challenge and test us.

When we are more comfortable in the deployment of our skills, and in working with one another, this could well be a course of action worth considering for future engagements.

Fully agreed upon.
Well, except that whatever number of those execrable creatures fouled this rathole but a day ago, it has been diminished by what i believe is a count of ten (not to speak of the dogs)

"Bart the Coward" ?

:D

I suggest you try that line next time i have to save your ground-grazing arse (again), and we see how it goes, master frostbeard....

Ten? I thought it fewer than that, but let us agree that we have reduced their numbers somewhat. However, I still expect us to have to face more of them than is entirely compatible with a comfortable existence.

I definitely don't think we should split up. Nothing good ever happens to a group that splits up... Axe murders, serial killers, zombie attacks. We should definitely stick together.

And I'm all for going back and retrieving my rope!

I somewhat agree with your first point. But slasher history 101 says also: never go back into the house where you just escaped from..

..that being said, they never went back to retrieve a piece of rope, so I give you that.

*takes a deep sip from XXX*

Say to the group: It looks like we are heading back to the bridge. Veit, could you please put some light on one of our weapons and then lead the way.

Orders: When we reach the bridge, climb the rope if it's still there.

Cast Light on Bart's sword (I assume he'll be spearheading any attack with me, so pobably benefits more, also he'd enlighten those that you can shoot at, Pluto).

Climb up as well if possible.

I assume that with the light that has been helpfully cast on Ser Bartholomeus's sword, along with my Darkvision and that of Master Veit, we can see well enough.

Does it matter much what order we take when walking back up the cave towards that rickety bridge?
