You walk to the bloody hand and slowly lower to your knee. The hand is still warm; it was cut off only recently. You confirm to yourself that it is possible; you will sew the hand on, then use your cleric powers to heal arm and hand together.

However, you unfortunately do not possess any needle or twine.

He doesn't? Not even a small, portable, personal sewing kit?

Hmm, the needle and twine part was rather thought as a dramatized scene as curing wounds should do the trick - at least that's what I thought. If nobody else has something useful - I'll sharpen a twig of hard wood or take one of these thorns that are nearby. For the twine I'll take a part of my shirt.

> sorry claus, that won't make you any more attractive but it'll do the job..ahem

I have been rummaging in my pack to see if there was anything that could be of some use to us here. Books, ink, pens, paper. Hm. Sorry, not much help, alas.

(Ironically, in Real Life, I always have a small personal sewing kit and a first aid kit in my suitcase, or rucksack…..)

>>> cure wounds... cure wounds, but it does not regenerate lost limbs.

You stand up and look around the blind. The briar thickets surround you, still bathed by moonlight. You approach a tree and, using your dagger, shave off a bark. You sharpen it, and returning to Claus, take a thread out of your common clothes to make a makeshift twine, and set about the grisly task of sewing the hand back onto Claus' arm.

*** CHECK ***
This requires a medicine skill check of DC 15. You have +5, so:

Veit: 18
*** CHECK ***

As you complete the task, you thank the deities that you have the cure wounds skill; the handiwork alone is one that would cause more harm than good if left alone. You close your eyes and summon the power of your deity.

*** CHECK ***
Cure wounds is 1d8 + 3 (based on your wisdom), so:

Veit: 2

You return 5 hp to Claus, leaving him with 8 hp.
*** CHECK ***

You touch Claus' arm, and watch as the bracelet-like ring of blood separating the hand and the arm disappeared, and the twine pushed out of the skin. Claus is now whole. Bruised, but whole.

Claus wakes from the netherworld to find himself surrounded by his comrades.

*** @Don't panic @Plutonius @Moyank24 @Scepticalscribe @twietee you are reunited, and at the mouth of the cave. What do you do?

Well, could have been worse..but not by much . More like a 1 instead of a 2..

> well, claus looks like he saw a ghost: you're alright buddy?!

If everything is sorted out I suggest we head straight back at the cave and finish that chapter once and for all.

*To myself: Hm. There are days when I would willingly trade some of the more martial magic my Elven ancestry and legacy allows me to summon for some of those magical powers that enable cures and restore health.*

Aloud: You have my impressed respect, Master Veit. That was very well thought through, and exceptionally well executed, though the circumstances were less than ideal.

*To myself: When our faltering steps next take us to an urban centre, one complete with commercial transactions, and breathing the air of trading, along with ye olde shoppes, and amply stocked stores, in addition to a grappling hook, methinks a small sewing kit might also make a useful addition to our knapsack, or saddlebags.*

Also, I will put that bloody, wooden 'needle' into my backpack.

I'll edit the wiki later, ravenvii. Don't want to mess it all up by being mobile

You should have wiped it clean and peed on ir before putting away so as not to be an infection hazard for the next dismemberment...

if only we had access to some magic to perfectly clean up stuff....

Stifles slightly embarrassed cough. Ahem.

I think I may be of some small assistance there: Directs a muttered cantrip of cleansing Prestidigitation to the (reattached) hand and wrist of Master Fletcher and the bloodied needle (held in the careful fingers and deft hands of Master Veit before he returned it to his backpack) and whatever else is required…….as directed by Master Veit.

I shall surely remember, next time i have a hole in my socks needing mending. ;)
But I shall also remember to get you a pouch of the best tobacco they sell in Phandalin, if we ever make it to the cursed town. You certainly earned it!

>Master Fletcher, what happened?
we lost sight of you in that unnatural flood, and i expected to see you bruised, or maybe even drowned,
but for the love of Tymora, i do not think even the sharpest rock can cut the hand of a man clean off his arm!
it would seem that the rabbit was very determined not to become part of our stew!

@ravenvii, can we have a status update?
(health, time elapsed since last rests [long and short], spell balance, etc.)

to all, i think we should take a short rest, get back some of the hit points if needed (by using our hit dice), sort our inventory, and then move back into the cave and clean up

[doublepost=1458505609][/doublepost]Syllin, did you use any spell slot so far (not cantrips)? if so, you can recover it with arcane recovery.

No.

Thus far, I have only used cantrips. My spell slots are untouched.

However, thank you for reminding me about Arcane Recovery - very useful to know, and - more to the point - I may need to have my memory jogged a little concerning this in the future, as well.

Indeed - (thanks for drawing my attention to this - and perdition and damnation be visited upon that spellcheck) - I may be on the point of pouring myself one shortly…….something densely dark and richly alcoholic…...
I think master flatcher could you some as well !

If you were planning on donning your Mage Armor , right before a short rest would be an ideal time

Hm. That is useful and helpful advice.

What are we likely to have to face? Apart from hordes of spitting goblins fuelled by rage and blood lust?

While I have four prepared spells to hand, obviously, there are but two slots in which to accommodate them.

The four are Sleep, Magic Missile, Burning Hands and Mage Armour.

Also, the two goblins we dispatched here, at the entrance. Am I to assume that their remains have been swept away by the stream, or, did we stash them in those impenetrable thickets of briar bushes?

Yeah, I think we need to rest. But it's not save here by any means, what can we do? We'll lose a lot of time that way, but we're too much weakened to proceed me thinks.

@ravenvii : my rope is tied around a goblin and tree (and I certainly will get it back once we're finished). I think Portia's rope was used at the bridge.

Claus has another rope, should we need it.
we can take a short rest here. I am at full health so i can just watch.
whoever is not at full health should use their hit dice to recover health.
if Syllin wants to use Mage Armor, she should do it before the rest, and then do arcane recovery during the rest to get the slot back (or she can save that for later, if she deems an extra offensive spell is better -assuming we have time for another short rest-)
that way we would all go back in at full strength, or close to it (except Veit would only have one slot remaining)

Ah.

So, I can don the Mage Armour, now, and use Arcane Recovery - to do what exactly? I still have one spell slot left. So, what would Arcane Recovery allow me to do after I had used the Mage Armour on myself?

Does that allow me to access - and use, subsequently - two spell slots, - two - let us say - offensive slots - or what? I confess that I am not entirely sure how this is supposed to work.

Ugh. Yes. That sordid detail had somehow slipped my mind. I can only assume I did it deliberately, a sort of self-protective reflexive action…….I remember now……wolves do not dine on goblin…..

Say to Veit (@twietee): Thank you for giving me a hand :). I have never met a cleric as skilled as you.

Say to All: Describe what happened including how I lost my hand.

DP, If I use second wind now, will it be available again to me after we take the short rest ?

yep, you get back one slot, so you have two to use again, in any way you want.
if you don't use it now, you keep open the possibility of doing the same later, if we take another short rest, to be used as you please.

yes, you get that option back with the short rest, and you save the hit dice

And the Mage Armour remains (on me) to be used if (rather when) we are attacked, and I can still call upon two other spells?
