Bartholomeus joins the leader goblin in the rear of the group as the party begins the brief return journey to the bridge.
"Klarg no nice. Klarg stupid. Beat goblins. Goblins sick of Klarg," the goblin responds to Bartholomeus' inquiry.
The party crosses the bridge and enters the eastern passage. Wartgutter suddenly stopped, seeing the bodies of the three slain goblins. Looking back with a mix of fear and hatred. Tightening his grip on the scimitar, Wartgutter made to turn and face the party, but a snarl in goblin from the leader made him stop. After a moment of defiant hesitation, Wartgutter turned with a disgusted spit, and continued.
The party exits the passage into a large chamber.
This cavern is half filled with two large pools of water, one of which is emptied. A narrow waterfall high in the eastern wall feeds the pool, which drains out the western end of the chamber to form the stream that flows out of the cave mouth below. Low fieldstone walls serve as dams holding the water in. The first dam has been destroyed. A wide exit stands to the south, while two smaller passages lead west. The sound of the waterfall echoes through the cavern, making it difficult to hear.
The party came out of one of the western passages, and you can see that the other western passage leads down a series of natural steps into a larger passage, and you can see the stream flowing through the far half of the large passage. The first pool must have been emptied to form the flood earlier.
Wartgutter did not stop; he continued through the chamber and turned to enter the large exit to the south. When the party catches up, they see that there are a series of large steps that lead up into a large, circular chamber.
Sacks and crates of looted provisions are piled up in the south end of this large cave. To the west, the floor slopes toward a narrow opening that descends into darkness. A larger opening leads north down a set of natural stone steps, the roar of falling water echoing from beyond. In the middle of the cavern, the coals of a large fire smolder.
And in this chamber, you see two goblins standing at either ends of the chamber, a mangy wolf resting near the fire.
And what must be Klarg himself, a hulking, mangy beast that looks like a mixture of a bear and a goblin. A bugbear.
"Klarg does not like interruptions! Klarg will crush your bones and feed you to --" Klarg roars as Wartgutter enters the chamber. Then he sees who is following the goblin. "Prisoners for Klarg?! Excellent! Klarg will make a throne out of your bones, puny ones!" Klarg roars.
