Hands down: that goblin got me. Veit some kind of dumb ass, agreed. But somehow it could have been worse. Not sure I have something to do with that. Guess not. :D

In the future, try intimidation rather than persuasion.

Well, I thought it was some sort of intimidating. :D

Should have noticed that is name was not Yeemik though. Next time! :D

Er, yes. Smothers slightly embarrassed cough. Unfortunately, you had said it before I noticed it, - and could, ah, perhaps offer a word of advice on such matters…..

Sigh. internally - a hideous squelching noise - the sound of sinking feelings in the pit of a stomach - best expressed my thoughts.

it was good except for the name.
when i saw that, i was certain raven was going to rip you with that :D

Yes, so was I. The dialogue - ah, monologue - was impressive. Apart from that. Until that, in fact…..

> in dwarvish: Nah, sounds awful. Does he think we leave him behind with the human? He's probably eating the rest of the leg while he waits for us - or runs away with Hallwinter. Gotta be some other way. Like they fight alongside us.. could be sort of fun.

You are not in any position to dictate conditions.
Are you such a dumb donkey you don't even realize that you got nothing?
You think I care for that one-legged wretch you are holding?
Well, you are wrong, little bugger
he is nothing to me.
Still, his life is the only thing that is keeping that sorry head of yours from joining that other one in the fire

or maybe we bring YOUR own traitorous head to this Klarg?
how would you like that?
he would probably thank us for it.
you want to negotiate? Good.
here are our terms.
first, you let the human go without hurting him more than you already have.
then, you tell us all you know about this klarg, and about the dwarf that was here.
Only then, if we are satisfied, we let you go with whatever you have on you right now, and nothing more

"No! I leader! You no tell me! I tell you!" the agitated goblin brings the blade of his scimitar to Hallwinter's throat and holds it there, the blade pressing against the skin. "Agree or he die! If you not care, why you here dumb ass?!"

You attempt to intimidate the goblin. You have +2, and it'd be a DC 15 since the goblin thinks he holds all the cards.

Bartholomeus: 1

"If he live, I die! No matter!" the goblin said, with surprising insight. "You want human live? Or no?"

Hm.

So, it appears that we have a Goblin Leader - who is Not Named Yeemik - irked that he has been confused with - by Master Veit - the Late Unlamented Goblin Leader - and even more annoyed now that Count Bartholomeus's attempt at persuasion has not worked.

(I assume that the minor essay with the Prestidigitation cantrip looked good, anyway, even if it did not yield much by way of success).

>>> the goblin stepped back (see above). Battle is over -- for now. So there's no turn order.

Now: Do you Count Bartholomeus (@Don't panic) wish for me to address this individual in his own tongue? Or, to use more muscle, metaphorically and magically speaking - on him?

And, what of his absent fellows? We have one here with us. For now, I assume that the fight has been knocked out of him.

Ah, @ravenvii, what is the current status of the other goblin - the individual who was fighting Claus?

And then, there is the absent Klarg - with whom this gentleman may be in some dispute as to which of them should succeed to the mantle of leadership made vacant by the death of the late unlamented Yeemik - along with two goblin slaves, and one - the noun used was 'retard' - wolf, a 'retard' wolf, whatever that means, I believe.

what do you think it would be our best move?

I wish @ravenvii to let us know the status of that other goblin -the one Claus - (@Plutonius) was engaged in combat with. Is he hors de combat, or still spitting curses, oaths and foul obscenities?

Before we do anything else, I wish to retrieve (ever so carefully and gingerly) the half cooked limb of the unfortunate Sildar Hallwinter from that disgusting and foul set of flickering flames, cast a cantrip of cleansing Prestidigitation on it (and on my hand, while I am at it - it will have been so so swiftly that I doubt my hand is even singed), and place it carefully to one side.

While I have severe doubts that it can be successfully reattached, - even by healing gifts of the inestimable and gifted Master Veit - I am loath to leave it…..resting….. in that foul fire for now.

Then, before invoking a spot of Mage directed Murder with a ranged spell of Magic Missile, I think a conversation conducted in his own tongue with that goblin might be in order if only to see whether we can salvage something from this unfortunate encounter.

We have threatened, made unfortunate mistakes and slip-ups with names, and blustered and bluffed. None of this has really worked. Let's see if a………diplomatic dialogue might fare better. And be ready to catch the unfortunate Master Hallwinter - safely - when he topples off that ledge.

the other goblin has retired somewhat to the back of the room (per edit of post 1399), precise location not clear.

just go ahead and retrieve the limb from the fire and clean it up; we are off turns so you can just do stuff.
To fix it, however, would require a high level cleric (i think minimum is 13th level and Regenerate, a 7th level spell way too complex for Veit to master at the moment, but as you said, we can't just leave it there to cook.

as far as talking to the goblin, we already tried persuasion, and intimidation did not work, so i think the only alterrnative is to cave in to the goblin's requests (with no guarantees of any better resolution later), or call the bluff and attempt to rescue Sildar.

meanwhile i will get my javelin ready

Re-read post 1399; that other goblin has indeed taken what has been described as 'a wary step back' and is said to be watching our party closely. I recommend that we, in turn, keep a beady eye on him.

For now, I retrieve - gingerly but carefully - Sildar Hallwinter's charred and desecrated limb - and cast a spell of cleansing Prestidigitation on it, leaving it carefully to one side.

A vision of the mighty Count catching it on his boot toe, which might be worth a gaffaw even from the goblin. :D

True - this is what would pass for wit in their world. However, I don't recommend that we try it - that which gives rise to goblin laughter is not what I desire to hear.

Wait, you wanna attack him?

Sigh. I think - as a default option - that Bartholomeus always likes the thought of attack. Straightforward, manly, noble. Just contemplating it, and cradling that great axe, or javelin, seems to soothe him, somehow.

A few options:
1) Start combat and hope our initiative rolls are better then the goblin on the ledge. Then kill the goblin holding the prisoner.
2) Portia tries to sneak up on the ledge behind the goblin.
3) Leave and go after Klarg.

In a low voice to the others: And you all think that any further conversation - and possible negotiation - is hopeless?

Are we so swift to resort to further violence?

I believe that I can hit him with with a bolt from the proverbial blue. Let us consider other options first.

Unfortunately, we didn't really try persuasion - we tried bluffing and blustering. Intimidation didn't really work, true.
