what are we going to do with the cart while we drink ourselves silly?

Ask Master Sildar for recommendations and suggestions as to who might be in the market for such goods, and would give us a fair price for them: Bear in mind, he has local knowledge, (and - perhaps - a good name) whereas - we - as yet - do not.

We may also need to bear in mind two further matters: Firstly, we lack coin, unless we choose to divide the meagre treasure we acquired from the goblins: Sildar has yet to make good his promise to us to reimburse us for our troubles.

Secondly, before we greet tankards warmly, or, with the sort of warm embrace usually reserved for those close to us, it may be prudent to ask Sildar where the wagon can be safely secured for the night. And perhaps, guarded. A repetition of the act of arson would be rather unfortunate.

yes, my question was in the immediate: before we get wasted at the inn, we need to secure the cart somehow.
Alternatively, we could unload the loot first and then go to the inn, although it might be too late in the evening for that

> Ser Sildar, you mentioned earlier an establishment where we were supposed to deliver Master Gundren's goods, if everything went according to plan.
Is it on the way to the Inn? maybe they could have them keep our cart for the night and then proceed to take care of business first thing in the morning?

Well, strange to tell, but my thoughts ran to mundane matters such as warm beds, secure rooms, bath tubs of steaming hot water, and a decent and well appointed and well stocked taproom……..

Good luck finding a bath in a typical medieval inn :D. We should be able to find lots of alcohol there but I agree with @Don't panic that it should be the last thing we do on our list (money should be first after we get lodging).

I daresay that a large tub filled with water that has been heated in jugs or kettles will suffice more than adequately. The place has a kitchen, and it must have wash tubs. Kitchens have kettles and other implements in which to heat water. A small consideration may need to change hands to bring this about, but - once we have some coin to call our own - I do not see any insuperable obstacles.

However, I agree about the sequence in which we should carry out our business.

(@Plutonius, @Scepticalscribe) so the plan is just to leave the loaded cart unattended on the street, while we enjoy our ales?

No, that is not what I have said (See above, post 1880).

Rather, I suggested that we ask Master Sildar, firstly, where we might be able to safely, - and above all, securely, - given what happened to our other wagon - leave the wagon for the night if we are not able to find a buyer for our goods before morning.

And secondly, I have suggested that we ask the same aforementioned Master Sildar, who - or what - might have some interest in offering a fair price for our goods so that we can make contact with them, and arrange for a meeting to discuss such a trade, preferably before approaching a tavern.

Master Sildar has local knowledge, we do not. Moreover, he has promised us remuneration - or compensation - for our efforts to date.

We are not enjoying ales until everything else is done. It's getting dark so we need to arrange for some place for the evening. Some of us can watch the wagon while the rest along with the knight arrange the lodging and a place to safely store the cart.

Does Portia (@Moyank24) join us in following the knight to the tavern or is she going to take care of some of her own business ?

ok, then we agree. :)

I believe @ravenvii is probably still constrained on time. Following the knight keeps things moving until Ravenvii gets time to answer the dozens of questions we had along with starting the next phase of our adventure.

I'll join the group in following the knight to the tavern. I, too, want to make sure everything is well taken care of before we start enjoying the fruits of our labor!

>>> Apologies to all -- IRL has been really busy, and will be for the foreseeable future, so the game might move more slowly the next week or two.

As you follow Sildar Hallwinter south into town, you pass several homes, their windows glowing with the light of dinners being cooked over fires, and smoke coming out of the chimneys. As you enter the center of the town, you recognize the name hanging off a post on a building to your left -- Barthen's Provisions. However, the building is dark inside. Directly opposite of Barthen's Provisions is a building with 'Smithy' written on the sign hanging above the door.

When Sildar paused to look behind him, then enters a building, you see that it is the Stonehill Inn, which is right next door to Barthen's Provisions. Before you enter the inn, you note that there is a shrine -- the Shrine of Luck -- situated directly opposite the inn, next to the smithy.

You overhear Sildar as he speaks to someone inside; "Hello sir, we need lodgings for the evening," Sildar says. "Ah! Welcome! ... my gods --" the speaker seems to catch himself. "Ahem! Welcome! Yes, yes, lodgings, of course, we have six rooms available!"

"I will take one. And those five outside -- they shall take two rooms. I shall pay the costs of their lodgings this evening."

"Of course, of course, how generous of you. I shall have the rooms ready momentarily!"

"Before you go, I have provisions that needs to be stored for the night -- is there any possibility that --"

"Of course, of course, I will be happy to accommodate -- the provisions, how large --"

"A pull cart. Nothing a horse stall cannot handle."

"Excellent, sir. That will be a little bit extra, you understand. And will you be paying --?"

"Unfortunately, I do not have coin right now. I promise that I shall secure a loan tomorrow, and make payments."

"I cannot do --" the voice pauses. "You're Lords' Alliance? Of course, that is just fine with me, I am honored to have you as a guest! Shall I prepare the rooms?"

"Thank you sir, I deeply appreciate it."

Sildar steps outside. "As my gratitude for your bravery and generosity, your lodgings are secure for the evening. The innkeeper will take care of the pull cart. You can do your business tomorrow morning. But for now, you more than deserve a well-rested evening."

Sildar turns to Bartholomeus, "I deeply apologize, but I cannot be much help here. I have come in search of Iarno Albrek, a member of the Lords' Alliance and a wizard. I will be even further indebted to you if you find any information on him. As for the supplies, there will surely be buyers in town. You shall have plenty of time tomorrow to, ah, liquidate those before continuing on your journey, wherever that may lead."

Sildar re-enters the inn, "As for me, I need to get some sleep and contemplate the loss of a certain limb of mine." You couldn't be sure, but you sense a slight degree of irony in his voice, though his face did not betray anything.

After we secure the cart in the stall, i enter the main room of the Inn. i look around to see what kind of customers are around and then address the Innkeeper:
> well, my good man, I am Count Lochaber, of Corlinn Hill, at your service.
As I am sure you can surmise by our current outlook, my companions and I had a very trying last couple of days, and we shall require the best ale you can serve as soon as it can be draught, to wash away the smell of dead goblins. And food to go with it.
Is it mutton stew that i am smelling? that would do.
Oh, and ale, my good man, did I mention ale?

You enter the inn and take a look around.

In the center of town stands a large, newly built roadhouse of fieldstone and rough-hewn timbers. The common room is filled with locals nursing mugs of ale or cider, all of them eyeing you with curiosity.

You see the innkeeper to whom Sildar was speaking earlier. He is a small, friendly-looking man. "Ah, sir, very good to meet you sir. Ah, that does sound quite trying. Of course, of course, there is ale. Unfortunately we do not have mutton, but we have lamb stew, if you will? The ale will be four copper pieces for a mug. Or perhaps you would like to share among your companions? That would be two silver pieces for a gallon? And the stew would be one silver piece."

The innkeeper looks at you, smiling, awaiting your decision -- and coin, of course.

Say to Veit (@twietee): What do you feel like doing ? Watch Portia gamble, eat a hot meal, or skip both and start drinking ?

I will have a fine dinner (?) with you guys while cracking some jokes on your account, Frankenstein. But only in jest, of course. Then I will ask the inn-keeper where I could find the most frequented tavern, go there and investigate the kind of ale they serve and wheter somebody knows a thing or two about that lord and wizard Hallwinter talked about.

Mugs of ale will be consumed within a reasonable amount - I'm tired and will go to bed not too late in the morning ;)
You young folks can do the heavy party thing.
