Two things:

Has Sildar made any arrangements to remunerate us (those ten gold pieces apiece that were promised earlier)?

Secondly, we do have the relatively small treasure we acquired from the goblins. I assume that a certain amount of that could go towards lamb stew, and the some ale, as it comes from a shared fund, so to speak. And we should have more coin tomorrow, form the sale of our goods, and from what Sildar has said he will reimburse us with.

However, before we split up, it might not hurt to discuss what we agree our course of action ought to be, before we eat - and indeed - drink. Or, we can engage in some discussion over a welcome goblet of ale.

Whether we wish to share a gallon, or have a goblet each to start with, is a separate matter.

My immediate preference would be for a plate of stew, and a mug of ale to wash it down.

Should the company choose to purchase a gallon of ale, that is something I will forego. In common with Master Veit (@twietee), I crave my bed, some quiet meditation, a hot bath, and perhaps, later, a small walk around the town to get some sense of my bearings.

I will have a fine dinner (?) with you guys while cracking some jokes on your account, Frankenstein. But only in jest, of course. Then I will ask the inn-keeper where I could find the most frequented tavern, go there and investigate the kind of ale they serve and wheter somebody knows a thing or two about that lord and wizard Hallwinter talked about.

Mugs of ale will be consumed within a reasonable amount - I'm tired and will go to bed not too late in the morning ;)
You young folks can do the heavy party thing.

I would bet gold that the inn-keeper will say that he has the best / most frequented tavern :).

Is your church in town ? If so, I would like to stop by and tell them how you fixed my hand and are doing a great job as our group's healer.

An excellent idea. If possible, I may join you as well to convey a similar message.

@ravenvii, how many costumers are in the inn at the moment?
[doublepost=1460732924][/doublepost]
You enter the inn and take a look around.

In the center of town stands a large, newly built roadhouse of fieldstone and rough-hewn timbers. The common room is filled with locals nursing mugs of ale or cider, all of them eyeing you with curiosity.

You see the innkeeper to whom Sildar was speaking earlier. He is a small, friendly-looking man. "Ah, sir, very good to meet you sir. Ah, that does sound quite trying. Of course, of course, there is ale. Unfortunately we do not have mutton, but we have lamb stew, if you will? The ale will be four copper pieces for a mug. Or perhaps you would like to share among your companions? That would be two silver pieces for a gallon? And the stew would be one silver piece."

The innkeeper looks at you, smiling, awaiting your decision -- and coin, of course.

> Lamb, you say? Excellent, excellent, why, that is even better!
Indeed, this town must be faring fairly well if you serve lamb instead of mutton!
I believe my companions and I shall all give your stew a try, and certainly a pitcher of your ale can be a reasonable start.
But forgive me, my good man, i must have forgotten my manners out there in the wild. What might your name be?

@twietee should work with @ravenvii to decide on what church Veit belongs to.

The shrine of luck is situated across from the tavern. Maybe that's a good choice for a church ?

@ravenvii, orders: I ask one the working people in the tavern what church is worshiped in the shrine of luck.

i can tell you that much:
the Goddess of Good Fortune is Tymora, The Lady Who Smiles, or Lady Luck, for us who rely on her sympathetic ears to pull off whatever we are attempting.
i believe she has already assisted us more than once in the past couple of days :)

Veit is a cleric of Marthammor Duin.

from his background sheet
"Your god, Marthammor Duin, is the dwarf god of wanderers, travelers, and outcasts—those who move among strange lands and foreign peoples. Dwarves who honor him wear his holy symbol, a boot overlaid by an upright mace, on a necklace often made of silver and iron."

Thank you. I would suppose that it would be too much to hope there is a church of Marthammor Duin in town ?

@twietee, info on Marthammor Duin.

we will remind sildar of his promise in the morning, along with the rest of our business.

i think that as we are sharing the upcoming meal we could go ahead and split the coin we have earned so far, so we have a bit of extra change for the evening, should we require it, especially since you and Veit plan on retiring earlish

"Of course, I will have a lamb stew prepared for you -- shall I deliver it to your room, or shall you eat in the common room? Ah, I would love for the town to be faring quite so well, but unfortunately the townsmaster has mismanaged the town so. We have been slaughtering lambs for food because we do not have enough grown sheep, and he did not want to wait for the lambs to grow. Oh, it is not sustainable I say! But I am but a mere innkeeper, so what can I do?

Ah, the name's Toblen Stonehill, sir! I shall go and prepare the lamb stew."

Toblen scurries out of the room, half-bowing. You look around the common room, and note that there are six people sitting at the tables with their ales.

@twietee should work with @ravenvii to decide on what church Veit belongs to.

The shrine of luck is situated across from the tavern. Maybe that's a good choice for a church ?

@ravenvii, orders: I ask one the working people in the tavern what church is worshiped in the shrine of luck.

You walk into the common room proper and boldly ask "That church across the road, who worships there?"

The townsfolk look at you in surprise. Finally, one speaks -- an old man and a farmer from the looks of his clothes -- speaks up, "the church worships the Lady of Luck, yes sir. The Sister who keeps things in order there, she is wonderful, yes sir. Will help you out no matter who you are, uncouth or proper, doesn't matter to her one bit." He leans forwards, "but you look like a good lad, no? Yes you do look like a good lad and bold, too. Maybe you can help her? Come 'ere will yer?"

And when Master Toblen Stonehill returns, I wish to ask him about the possibility of a hot bath, hot water from a kettle or two poured into a tub that may be placed in our room.

*To myself: So, two inns in the town. The place where we have secured bed and board - The Stonehill Inn, and another, spoken of in less than laudatory terms by Master Stonehill, which goes by the slightly unsettling name of The Sleeping Giant.

Hm.

Time for a bath, a beer, a meal, and - then perhaps - some meditation. And maybe, following that, some genuine rest or sleep, or a meeting or two…..*

In fact, why don't you serve a round of ale to all present here? on us, naturally.

"Of course, sir" the innkeeper says as he returns with your stew and places it on a table in the common room. Turning to the elvish wizard, he says, "Unfortunately we do not have quite that luxury here. You are free to use the shared tub down that way, but the water is lukewarm at best," he says apologetically. Turning back to Bartholomeus, he says, "very generous of you, sir. That will be... one silver piece for one lamb stew and 44 copper pieces for eleven mugs of ale, sir."

A tavern is for drinking (and possibly fighting), but not where one can lay one's head safely (or not) at night.

A most useful distinction.

"Of course, sir" the innkeeper says as he returns with your stew and places it on a table in the common room. Turning to the elvish wizard, he says, "Unfortunately we do not have quite that luxury here. And @ravenvii, I address the inn-keeper as follows: My thanks, Master Stonehill.

What manner of coin would it cost to ensure that this tub is…….not shared for a short period of time?

Quite brief, will be my ablutions. I will not take up your facilities for longer than might be absolutely necessary.

And, I fully understand the limitations of your water supply. Lukewarm water will be more than adequate.

Just fill the tub…….I have certain, um, skills that should ensure that the water is, ah, more than sufficiently clean, and……um….quite sufficiently warm - for my immediate needs. And again, my grateful thanks for the use of your facilities.

And, once my ablutions have concluded, - which should not, - and shall not - take very long - I shall rejoin my comrades in the common room, to partake of some ale and lamb stew.

I think Portia (@Moyank24) would want the tavern for gambling (and liberating loose change pouches :D) after she eats. It sounds like the inn will do fine for the rest of us.

Syllin, before you go and enjoy the tub, maybe we should pay this good man for the food and ales from our common funds and then proceed to split the remainder?
So, master Stonehill, tell me more about the troubles that affect you and the town. Maybe we can be of some assistance.
You don't seem to have a high opinion of your current Townmaster. How so?
We were planning on speaking to him in the morning, as we think our effort in securing the safety of the Triboar Trail might warrant some recognition of the, ehm, monetary type.

yes, although by the little she has told us about her previous interactions here in Phandalin, i was of the impression she wanted to keep it a little on the low, at least initially

Ah, yes, I believe that I was nominated Treasurer……of our shared funds.

(@ravenvii, I pay Master Stonehill for the round of drinks and the meal and set off for my rapid ablutions; I doubt that the meal will be on the table before my return; lamb stew is not cooked in minutes - or, rather, if it is, this is ample cause for concern).

A quick muttered aside to Bartholomeus: Perhaps a second round - paid for in advance - might serve to loosen tongues a little and help establish our bona fides?

But please, sit with us. our meals are served already.
No doubt the stew has been simmering on the fire for many an hour, readied in anticipation of costumers.
I would strongly recommend that you eat first, wash later, Syllin.
Judging by how Master Veit is gnawing at it, i daresay won't find any left by the time you return...

Why, thank you, Ser Bartholomeus, that is most kind of you.

While my immediate preference is a swift bath before dinner - and ale - given the temporary absence of our innkeeper, I shall join you for dinner and an ale.

*To myself: And then, while a bath will be very welcome, following my swift ablutions, refreshed, I shall return for here a further ale, to think, and ponder, and to sample the atmosphere of the place, and listen, and learn, and perhaps pose a question or two, before contemplating retiring, or……..mayhap take a small stroll - before turning in for the night.*
