@ravenvii, we will head to Barthen's. Veit and I will keep out of sight while Syllin (@Scepticalscribe) appraises / sells the frog statuette.

When we are out of earshot, say to the party: I sensed other motives from that Halia Thorton woman so we may not want to complete that job. Besides, she insulted my good friend Veit. Let's sell the frog statuette, get the 50GP from the knight, divide the money, and then decide where to go.

Fair enough.

I shall seek out Barthen and see what - if anything - he has to say about the frog statuette.

Subsequent to that, I would also like to have a chat with Sr Garaele, which was suggested to us last night while we dined and sipped ale in the tavern.

"I will do a little detour to the smithy. Let's hear his opinion ob the redbeards..I recall him hiding stuff from them (or was that barthen?). If they all give us some extra money the hassle may be worth it.."

"syllin, you may ask, very gentle as usual, barthen as well if you like."

You enter Barthen's Provisions. Barthen looks up at you and his eyes narrow.

"May I help you," he said with a guarded tone. In response, you present the frog statuette.

Barthen takes the statuette from you and turns it over. "This may be of some value. I will give you 40 gold pieces for it."

@Scepticalscribe how do you respond?

"I've already told you, those ruffians are more trouble than they are worth. Why do -- wait, Halia asked you to handle them, didn't her? Well, I ain't saying no more."

He turned his complete attention back to the anvil, making it clear that he will not speak about the topic any further.

Sheesh...they're on the cheap side in this town :D

I'll go catch up with Pluto and spy around the corner, curious whether ss can overcome her curiousity over a small frog for 40gp or not. (Do it!) :D

I think that we can part ways with the frog for 40 GP. I have already subjected it to two - admittedly not perhaps as powerful as I would like - somewhat magical examinations which yielded nothing.

Much though I would like for us to learn more about this curious trinket, I doubt that such knowledge - if indeed it exists - lies here in this town, or within my capacity to unveil. And our need for gold in this instance must outweigh my desire for knowledge.

So, I will take the 40 GP with thanks.

Re the smith, and our query re local bandits, I think we might need to make it clear that we are visitors and are merely seeking information, and are not beholden - not yet anyway - to anyone in the town. Information is really what we seek.

I partly agree - but we should consider two things I guess: first we already lost a lot of time re our rescue mission. So either Gundren is already dead or imprisioned. Since we basically all agreed that we are going to investigate that adventure we should consider the latter being the case (hopefully). That means we are a) not in an ultimate hurry hence can b) consider whether we, all of us, are sufficently equipped for such a mission. I can't really judge on that since I have almost no experience with these games but our first part so far lets me think that we, although more experiences (level2) now, still lack the right tools/armour/whatever. So we should take into consideration - at least discuss this - wheter investigating the town bullies (as it seems on the surface) for a quick buck which basically means paying a visit to the sleeping giant (I hope that's not meant literally :D).

I think we should vote for that. All of us (@Don't panic and @Moyank24 ) of course. Should we investigate the sleeping Giant and the local bullies?

I say: Yes.
[doublepost=1469361047][/doublepost]One more thing: we have now about 183gp.

Once we decided that we go after the redbrands we should consider buying some weaponry/armour before we possibly engage in some sort of action I guess.

I have to add it up but does that include the 50GP that the Knight promised us after we rescued him. We still need to collect that money and we should do that first before continuing.

Edit: So far I see
50 GP Supplies
10 GP Wolf pelts
80 GP Weapons
3 GP Teeth
40 GP Statuette

so we do need the reward from the Knight.

Agreed, the knight hasn't paid us yet.

And there are a few other people we need to visit; I am in favour of arming ourselves with as much information as possible, before heading off on further adventures, and also trying to ensure that - while we may be open to further offers, it is important that try to ensure that we are not pawns in a power struggle in this town, or too closely aligned with one set of interests.

Barthen knows him. Could you please ask Barthen where the Knight could be found ?

I will do that, and proceed to do that.

Moreover, (my charisma deficit notwithstanding) I will also point out to Barthen, politely, that we are visitors to the town, having been commissioned to bring a wagon load of goods here - which he already knows about, - and that, as such, we have not committed ourselves to anything - or anyone - yet, and, if he would care to offer advice, counsel, or thoughts, we are listening to what he might care to say with open ears.

"Ah, Hallwinter? The knight had summoned an audience with the townmaster at the Townmaster Hall. Most folks in the town are there now. It's about noon now -- meeting probably getting about close to finished by now."

Barthen shakes his head. "I got a business to run, I don't involve myself in those affairs. If you need information, Hallwinter will have it."

That explains why the roads are somewhat oddly empty all morning.

Hmmm, that info could have been useful some time ago - wonder what the ytalked about.

"Let's go over to the Townmaster Hall and see what all the fuzz is about. And to collect our 50gp from Hallwinter. Strange that he didn't say a thing to us before about that."

Yes, that information could have been quite useful, had it been vouchsafed to us earlier.

Orders @ravenvii: The group heads to the Townmaster Hall.

A stroll in the metropolis.

*** perhaps if Veit and Claus wasn't so rude he would have. ;)

*** Write-up incoming (with it being Sunday, that means 'sometime today' :D)!

The Townmaster's Hall has sturdy stone walls, a pitched wooden roof, and a ball tower at the back. Posted on a board next to the front door is a notice written in Common. It reads, "REWARD -- Orcs near Wyvern Tor! Those of mind to face the orc menace should inquire within!" The notice bears the town's seal and an indecipherable signature.

As you enter the Hall, you find yourself witness to a lively debate. A crowd of approximately fifty townsfolk are clamoring before a small stage, upon where Sildar Hallwinter stood, leaning on a staff you do not recognize -- he must have procured a new one this morning -- and next to him, a man of considerable girth. His pompous clothing signals to the party that he is the townmaster.

"-- came on behalf of the Lords' Alliance to secure and provide support to the region. I reiterate, it is abundantly clear that you have failed to do so," Sildar said with authority in his voice.

"You -- you don't just come in and question my authority! The Redbrands are protecting the town just fine! They are a mercenary guild and are no trouble, really!"

"Lies! They steal, they fight and they hide in that manor of theirs! We want them out!" You recognize the voice as belonging to the innkeeper's wife.

"I move for a re-election," a calmer voice came out of the crowd. You recognize Narth the old farmer.

The townsfolk's clamor became even louder, supporting the motion.

"I will let the town people decide whether your administration of Phandalin should be perceived as successful. If they elect you to remain, I shall leave you in peace," Sildar concluded.

"You -- you don't! You can't just declare a re-election! I get to do that!" the townmaster croaked.

"The people have spoken. Do you go against them?"

"I --" the townmaster looks towards the crowd, his face turning from red to white. "Fine -- fine. Fine! You'll see -- I'm a good administrator! I'm a banker! What is he? Some fool from the big city and the fancy Alliance!"

Grimacing, Sildar announced, "The election shall take place at a time that will be announced in the front of the Hall by dawn."

Satisfied, the townsfolk begin to leave past the party, murmuring both about what has occurred, and at seeing the watching party.

Soon the Townmaster's Hall is empty but for Sildar Hallwinter and the townmaster himself.

"Ah, friends. A timely arrival. I have secured fifty gold pieces as promised. Let's talk."

*** +50 to your war chest.

Ka-ching!
[doublepost=1469386259][/doublepost]I still vote for a "Red-xit" and it seems our man Sildar does too. :D

> I nod to Sildar and will look interested in what he has to say. "We did hear some complaints about the Redbrands. What is it about them, Sir?"

Slider approaches the party and out of earshot of the townmaster, who is busy yelling agitated orders to two townsfolk who has appeared -- you surmise that they work at the Hall.

"Have you learned anything regarding the location of Cragmaw Castle from the locals?"
