Wow, Barthen's angry at us? Lol

"Ok, smithy, how about that: you give us 80 coins and keep the stuff while still making a solid profit from it - and we will come back with more. Because where we're going there will be plenty of it - and we don't particularily like goblins and the kind if you know what I mean. And of course we remember how much you helped us out when we needed it the most!"

whispers back:"that was part of the idea. but yep, you're right that we can't wait - he doesn't really know that though..what would you deem a reasonable price? 80coins?"

*smiles at smithy*

You exercise your charisma to convince him. Fortunately for you, he is particularly fond of dwarves (being master blacksmiths and all) and is quite impressed that you lot killed so many goblins. Business might pick up, with the Triboar Trail being safer and all. So convincing him should be easy -- a DC of 5 should do it. You have +1 persuasion so you need a 4 or better:

Veit: 5

"... all right! All right! 80 gold pieces. Ain't going to go no higher -- I got a business, you see."

@twietee @Plutonius @Don't panic @Moyank24 @Scepticalscribe what say you?

Great job Veit !!!

@ravenvii, we head to the miners exchange to sell the gold teeth.

Say to Syllin: While we are at the miners exchange, could you please try to get the statuette appraised / sold at Barthen's ? If he sees Veit or myself, I doubt he would appraise / buy it.

Veit grabs the 80 gold pieces as the blacksmith grabs the cart's handles and starts walking back to the smithy. Before you could stop him, he says "I keep the cart," leaving no room for argument.

*** +80 gold pieces to the party's purse.

You traverse the main road -- once again -- south past the inn and the shrine, the Townmaster's Hall, past the Lionshield Coster. You note the Woodworker shop, which is on the other side of the road from the Coster, and past the shop, you finally arrive at the Miner's Exchange. It was, just as Barthen and Linene described, at the very end of the center of town, before the road heads off into the fields.

The Miner's Exchange is a modest building, with the sign saying as such hanging in the front. It is perhaps the nicest building in the town after the shrine, Coster and the Townmaster's Hall.

As you enter the Miner's Exchange, a human woman approaches you. Authority emanates from her -- if you did not know any better, you would've assumed she is the townmaster.

Eyeing your commoner clothes, she says, "may I help you, sir?"

@Plutonius how do you respond?

Hmm, quick check of our checkbook:

50 GP
+ 10GP
+ 80GP

should make roundabout, more or less, give or take 140GP. No idea what SP and CP (silver/copper coins?) are but we have those too.

Still having the mysterious frog and a couple of golden teeth to sell (right?).

Pluto, let's go to the miners and sell those teeth! Or should we ask the smith? Or did we sell them already to the smith? :D

Yes, we still have - that is, I still have - the mysterious frog - what a curious artefact, and very odd that the goblins should have has such a thing in their possession; I confess that it intrigues me.

And, - an aside - but I assume that we will also seek Sildar Hallwinter, as he has promised us remuneration, to the tune of 50 gold pieces each if memory serves.

That's where we are and it's 3 teeth :). See if you can get a good price although our missing Count (@Don't panic) might do better here.

After we are done, we have to find that knight and get the 50GP he promised us.

I'm hoping that Syllin (@Scepticalscribe) gets the frog statuette appraised / sold at Barthen's while we finish up getting the teeth sold.

Well, you are indeed correct, Sir.

I don't want to be impolite: you better answer that fine lady first before I talk shop. ;)

If I haggle with her, she's likely to demand money from us to take the teeth :). Use your good charisma and get us a good price (no idea on the price).

Reply to the woman: My name is Claus and we found something that might interest you. (Pointing at Veit) This is my good friend Veit which will show it to you.

No, I shall stay with you chaps and chapesses for now.

And, shall then head to see what - if anything - I can obtain from Barthen by way of information - and - or - gold for the frog statuette.

And yes, with regard to the frog statuette, I am perfectly aware that the frog statuette was not crafted by goblins, they are not capable of crafting such a thing - but will admit that I am rather intrigued that they chose to keep it, rather than sell it.

As am I.

I wonder if the real value has nothing to do with money?

Well, with the magical skill at my disposal, (which is - as yet - that of a relatively recently graduated wizard, now at Level 2) I did subject that frog to a test to check whether it had magical properties, or other properties not readily visible to the naked eye or other senses. Unfortunately, my examination revealed nothing.

But my questions remain. I suspect that they kept it for a reason, one which is, as yet, unknown to us.

Sorry, was following the stuff here in Munich...:(

Since the woman shows no reaction other than looking at me, I'll open my right hand and show her the teeth. "We got into some trouble with marauding goblins - but "kept the upper hand". *briefly smiles* This is the last loot we carry around, the rest has been sold already to the blacksmith and Barthen - curious fella isn't he? - and we were told you may have some use for them. Solid 24k gold - you may want to check that and make us a fair price?

If we weren't in such a hurry because of our rescue mission I'd love to hear about your mines - my great grandfather ran one - is it gemstones or metal you are recovering here?"

I was trying to review what happened so far. Good luck on the interviews and see you next Tuesday.

I just reviewed the last 3 pages of dialog, thanks for the recap! Will take a look at my character sheet and will be waiting in the wings.

The woman wordlessly takes the teeth and places them on a scale on the counter behind her. "Three golden pieces, exactly."

Without asking if you wanted to go ahead with the sale, she went behind the counter, produces three gold pieces and places them on the counter. She then takes the teeth and places them behind the counter.

Ignoring the dwarf, she looks at Claus. "Sir, I've been hearing rumors that you have slain quite a few goblins on your way here. I might have a use for your talents."

@Plutonius (and @twietee) how do you respond?

"You may have heard of the Redbrands. Many of us here in Phandalin are unhappy about their presence. I'd like you to... solve that problem, if you would.

You can always find the ruffians loitering at the Sleeping Giant. They have a base under the manor at the eastern edge of town -- the Tresendar Manor. They are led by a man who calls himself Glasstaff.

I will give you 100 gold pieces if you... handle their leader and bring me any correspondence you may find in his quarters.

The town will be in your debt should you do this. It is time we are rid of the ruffians who are suffocating our business and driving out-of-towners away."

You roll a Wisdom (Insight) check -- a DC of 15 is needed to succeed:

Claus: 18

You get an immediate intuition that the woman has ulterior motives that she is not revealing, but you cannot tell what they may be.

@Plutonius @twietee what do you say?

"100 gp don't convince me.

You give us 50gp now so we can buy him *nods to claus* a rapier. He's a mighty warrior and with the right weapon in his "hands" can do wonders but not with what we are equipped with now. We bring you the correspondence and receive another 100gp in return. The three golden teeth can be seen as part of the deal. We're not that greedy.

Interested?"

The woman has ulterior motives that makes her extremely difficult to 'charm'. So it'll have to be a DC 20 for you to actually pull that off.

Veit: 1

... ouch.
***

She slowly looks down at you. "Dwarf, you speak forceful words, but the words carry no force," the woman said with menace in her voice. "Your life will be made... difficult if you are to cross me."

The sinister air vanished from her face as her glance moves back to Claus. "Fortunately for you, I do not make it a practice to attribute intent of a single person to the entire party. I hope you will respond more favorably," she said with a smile that, if you did not know any better, you would have seen as being friendly.

Reply: I'm very sorry for the dwarf's comments. We were actually going to head out of town soon so I'm not sure how much time we will have. We will agree to speak with Glasstaff but we will not attack someone without cause. If we find that Glasstaff is breaking the laws or harming the village, we will bind him up for judgement by the village. How will we recognize what documents you want us to recover ?

The woman smiled, "that will suffice. You will know when you see them. It was a pleasure doing business with you, sir. My name is Halia Thornton. Return once you have completed the... task, and I will see to it that you are aided in your quest."

*** add 3 gold pieces to your pockets.
