reward from Salidar
50 GP

@ravenvii, you never told us a count of the stamped bags and boxes. Just that we found some. Would the weapons / shields be better sold at the blacksmith ?

Say to all (@Don't panic, @twietee, @Scepticalscribe, @Moyank24): I believe we should head to the Sleeping Giant Tavern to look for Iarno Albrek. Salidar said he might know the location of Cragmaw Castle.

Speak to Earthen: Do you know of a person called Iarno Albrek and where he might be located ? We have heard people refer to redbrands. Are they the town guard ?
*** Thanks! (It's Barthen actually -- OS X likes to autocorrect it to Earthen :p)

Earthen looks at the cart. "Ah!" Barthen says, pointing to the images of a blue lion on the sacks and crates, "those boxes and sacks belong to the Lionshield Coster! Linene will be grateful that you recovered those supplies!" Barthen points down the road to a building that stands directly opposite of the Shrine of Luck "The Lionshield Coster is right there, across from the shrine." Barthen looks over the rest of the rubble piled on the cart. "My, how many goblins did you slain? ... Sadly I have no use for any of those. But I am sure the smithy will make good use of those metals." Barthen then points to the building directly opposite Barthen's Provisions -- which has a sign out front with "SMITHY" written on it -- "take those there and they will surely provide fair compensation."

Turning to Claus, Barthen replies "no, I cannot say I have heard that name." His face darkens upon hearing you mention the Redbrands "them? Stay clear of them, you hear? They are thugs that pretend to protect this town. But they only cause trouble for good folks. It is best you stay clear and keep your heads down. They do what they like and there's nothing we folks can do about it."

@ravenvii, I imagine that Barthen would be the person to buy the 3 golden teeth, frog statuette, good wolf pelt, and quality wolf pelt (I rolled a natural 20 while skinning it). Will he purchase these and how much will he give us ? Also, I realize that we were unable to successfully deliver his goods but will he give us some / all of the 10GP ea. ?

*** if I recall correctly, the statuette is in Syllin's pocket, so he didn't see it.

As you point to those items, Barthen shrugged "I have no use for the golden teeth. The miners' exchange might, however," he said not unkindly. "The miner's exchange is on the other side of town. If you continue down the road, past the Lionshield Coster, the miner's exchange will be the last building on your left. Ah, the wolf pelts need to be tanned and shaped. I do not have such expertise here -- however, the Lionshield Coster sells armor and other such supplies, so Linene may be interested in acquiring those materials."

Say to Syllin (@Scepticalscribe), Are you going to keep the frog statuette ?

@ravenvii, did Barthen say anything about the 10GP ea. that he was originally going to pay us ?
Barthen glances at your expectant stare. "I cannot begin to fathom the ordeal your party has gone through prior to entering the town. But I do run a business; I cannot pay for goods that is undelivered. I am sorry."

Say to Barthen: I see. So we are to venture out and rescue your "good friend" after having lost most everything. I will help my good friend Veit try to rescue his cousin but the others are not quite as altruistic. I doubt that Veit and myself even with Nundro and Tharden stand a chance of rescuing Grundren. If he is really a friend of yours, you need to come along with us and help us fight or at least provide material support.

whispers to Claus: "What about a discount or some sort of deal? We get the provisions we need and get back his stuff in return? Not sure how much our coins are worth so maybe we need to beg a bit more anyway.

Also, who is Nundro and Tharden?"

To Barthen: "We may go visit the miners exchange and the Lionshield Coster to see how much we can get out of our goods - but remember Barthen that your goods will be gone for good if we don't intervene now. And I have serious doubts there will be people stupid enough willing to go after them other than us. I wouldn't if it weren't for my cousin Gundren. *sigh*

Anyway, you probably want to go back for a minute to your abacus and reevaluate and recalculate your business interests as we visit the Exchange and Lionshield Coster (<< I expect them to be in town, ravenvii, correct? >>)..."
[doublepost=1467876170][/doublepost]Are there possible charisma throws or something along that to make him "understand" a bit better? :D

Barthen looks at Claus and you angrily. "I have a business to run here. I've told you where you can exchange this... pile into coin. Now leave me alone." Barthen turns and starts walking back into Barthen's Provisions.

***
You toss for persuasion. Even though Barthen is a very nice guy, you've already agitated him, so it won't be easy. So I'll peg this at 15. You have +1, so:

Veit: 11 + 1 = 12

Failed.
***

You attempt to calm your voice and talk nicely, but Barthen continued into the building and slammed the door.

Well, that escalated quickly.

*shrugs*

let's move our cart to the miners. I think they're just waiting to help a poor dwarf out.
[doublepost=1467899573][/doublepost]And maybe our noble count @Don't panic can do the barter thing. Although he's just as poor at least he gives a noble impression of being wealthy - and as we all know the old saying goes: "those that already have more than enough shall be given even more"

Nundro and Tharden are Gundren's brothers (from what Barthen said) so I suppose that they are also your cousins. In any case, I'll make sure that they know that Barthen refused to help his "good friend" Gundren.

Orders: Let's move on to the Lionshield Coster and hope the Count (@Don't panic) and Portia (@Moyank24) wake up :).

I'd say "get the cart rolling", raven! Also, I'll give the count a friendly slap on the back due the note he put there saying "kick me :)".

A few things: Firstly, I would like to have a quick word with Sister Graele before we think of leaving this oasis of civilisation, namely Phandalin.

Secondly, what is our financial situation? Has the one-legged gentleman (Sildar) actually paid us yet? What about those for whom we were to deliver stuff?

Thirdly, yes, I know I have confirm the spells I have prepared. (An aside: I need to re-read myself into what I can and cannot do, and thank you, @ravenvii, for confirming that I do have that pearl).

Fourthly, is anyone of the opinion - after our expulsion or forced egress from Barthen's Provisions - that I should ask his opinion of that strange statuette?
[doublepost=1468251869][/doublepost]
hi all, i have been away for work (far east) and hadn't realize we actually restarted.
just need a little time to get back tho speed

I need some time as well.

*** SPOILERS: I'd never do this, and it's bad DM-ing, but I'm going ahead for the sake of moving the game forward: taking the cart to the three merchants I've mentioned won't trigger any events (unless you guys go off and do something unexpected), so we can go ahead and do the selling thing while @Don't panic and @Scepticalscribe catch up. So if someone wants to take up the 'reins' and control the narrative for this bit, go ahead.

*** @Scepticalscribe Salidar hasn't paid the party yet, no.

Ah: Well, yes. This prompts the question of whether Salidar actually pays us, or has he legged it (difficult on one leg, but it is a figure of speech), or have we to chase him down for payment?

And, are we all together for the negotiations attendant on selling the cart and what it contains?

Yep, we should all stay together at least until we sell everything. I would also recommend we continue to stay together while in the village (we were warned about redbrands (thugs) in town). Let's visit the three shops before worrying where we go next.

It sounds like the Lionshield Coster would be interested in the frog statuette and we should get it appraised there. It looks like Barthen only deals with supplies.

To All: Let's go immediately to the three shops starting with the Lionshield Coster. We should probably let the Count (@Don't panic) or Veit (@twietee) do the talking because they will get us the best prices. Syllin (@Scepticalscribe) should hand the Statuette to the Count or Veit so they can get the best price when we get it appraised.

@ravenvii, Clauss is interested in a rapier and studded leather armor. While selling our goods, keep an eye out for these items.

is @Moyank24 still playing ?

Fair enough. And, staying together sounds a good idea.

I shall hand the statute over to whichever of our comrades in arms blessed with charisma might obtain a decent price for it.

After we have concluded our shopping, trading and exchanging, I daresay monies may need to be discussed.

And there are one or two people - such as Sister Graele - with whom it was suggested we seek counsel when staying in the Inn last night (some months back, according to a different measurement of time, but, as we all know, time is somewhat elastic anyway) - with whom I should like to speak before we depart.

I can talk business if need be. At least with the miners. They'll probably accept me as someone somehow familiar with digging deep down in the mountains and make me a good price (for teeth no less).

It would be Veit or the Count. Certainly not me :D.

You would be fine with all our sales.

@ravenvii, orders: Head to the Lionshield Coster with the group.

Count (@Don't panic) or Veit (@twietee) : Whomever is on first after we reach the Lionshield Coster, find out what they will buy and the price they will pay (need to get the statuette appraised). Don't bother waiting on our replies.

Grumbling, you take up the cart's handles and start pulling it back down the road. Past the shrine, you see that there is a clearing -- a town square of sorts. The shrine stands on your right, and the Lionshield Coster stands directly opposite the shrine. As you across the clearing, you see, to your right, a large grass clearing -- the town green. To your left, you see the Townmaster's Hall looking over the town square. The main road -- the road you are on -- continues on past the Lionshield Coster, through several closely clustered buildings before continuing out of town. You see another road, smaller than and pendular to the main road, heading off to your left.

The details you miss at night. You wonder what you would have missed in a more hostile environment.

You come to a stop in the front of the Lionshield Coster, which is one of the nicest buildings in the town with a grand entrance -- as grand as it gets in Phandalin, at least -- and with architecture second only to the Townmaster's Hall.

@Plutonius @Don't panic @Scepticalscribe @twietee @Moyank24 what do you do?
