Ah, I forgot about the noexec tag. Weird, I wonder why mine didn't have it.

Wow, you've got it bad. Completely out of space. Be careful when you do this...

cd /
rm -r /Applications.old
ln -s /private/var/root/Applications Applications

after each line do we press enter? i cant get pass the second line without something coming up

Sbrocket, I just wanted to follow up with my reboot issue now that I've found a workaround. To avoid the recovery mode, you have to turn the iPhone off by holding down the sleep/wake button and moving the red slider, and then turn the iPhone back on via the sleep/wake button.

Brings me back to the Home screen without the need for iNdependence.

Well it is good to see there is a workaround but for me the price is just too high to pay right now for 1.1.3. I cannot believe this is the jailbreak they were having so much debate about whether or not to release. it has more whole then a sieve. I really hope they release the jailbreak method they have held back the more traditional baseband pack that they have so far held back.

It wouldn't be too bad if the jailbreak described here did everything needed but on top of this you have patches for this that and the other. I need a phone I can rely on not something I might have to hard reset if it locks up only for it to get stuck in recovery mode when I'm stranded.

no more openssh file to download in the installer! whats up?

midkay suggests the following... I would be interested to hear how it goes for you, as I have already recovered back to 1.1.3 (I needed a working phone). Let me know how it works for you, please... I tried to add that source yesterday when I was working on it, but I never deleted the nyud.net one.
I had trouble with this too.

The problem seems to be the coral cache version of psmxy's repository that comes as a default source (it's the source that says like http://psmxy.org.nyud.net/iphone-apps). I think it's down, or something.

Delete that one and add the direct source: http://psmxy.org/iphone-apps

They should automatically refresh, and then openssh should appear as an available package.

Hi,

Well after a few failed, and a few aborted attempts, I think I'm now on a good 1.1.3 Jailbroken UK O2 iPhone. I'm convinced that I followed exactly the same steps as every other time, but this time it works.

A couple of quick queries though.

I didn't move the applications to a different partition with

"cd /"
"cp -rf Applications /private/var/root/"
"mv Applications Applications.old"
"ln -s /private/var/root/Applications /Applications"

I didn't seem to need to, applications are installing fine with this left alone. Is this a step I need to run?

Also I can't install iPhysics level packs, they just don't show up in iPhysics.

Any ideas..

Also thanks for everyone's comments and additions to the guide along the way. Sbrocket is a legend!

Mark

mmm

where does it say in the guide about this jailbreak only being for Intel macs?

Ive just upgraded to 113 from a really well hacked and sorted 112 to be left pretty frustrated to find out its only for intel..

is it confirmed only for intel or not??

i dont see it written in the guide...if its not in there, shouldnt it be?????
how many people are going to try this and be as mad as i am right now.

thanks for the efforts in doing this of course, its a great resource for us all

WiFi not working

My wifi signal just went down when I go to wifi setting its there but there is no ip address and the phone just when out now it back help.

openSSH

Is there no other source for openssh? I have tried all of the workarounds and still cannot get it to showup to install

That's the proper way to shut down your phone...

@Everyone:
And NO, this is not Intel-only anymore. Ever since the Dev Team's jailbreak came out has it not been. Also, if I quote someone and ask them to do something...please don't run those commands thinking they'll magically fix something. Its usually directed at them specifically.

Can anyone confirm that any of the listed methods works with a UK OOTB 1.1.2 using a non iPhone O2 SIM?

If so wish step to begin at? :)

2 things...

1...
I used snyderinsider's suggestion (thank you!) of using the red slider too turn off my iPhone instead of holding sleep/wake & home for several seconds. And my iPhone is no longer booting into recovery mode automatically.

I still think this is odd considering I've had my iPhone since launch day and have ALWAYS rebooted without using the red slider. Any ideas on why this is the case now? No biggy really as the slider is doing the job now, but just curious.

2...
I can successfully SSH into my phone using Transmit with the user as root and password as alpine. However, I do believe there is a method of logging in as the "mobile" user. I've searched the threads but haven't found a working solution yet. I really want to be able to do this so I can restore some database files back to my iPhone, like notes, SMS's and a few other things.

Ideas anyone?

This really messed my iPhone up...It no longer boots at all. I got all the way to the last step and the 1.1.3 jailbreak restarted my phone but my phone refuses to start up, it just sits at the Apple logo.

Eek.

Think of it this way. Do you shutdown your computer by holding the power button until it shuts off? I certainly hope not - it isn't good for the integrity of your system. Using the red slider is like shutting down your iPhone cleanly in the same way you choose cleanly shutdown or restart your computer.

There are no patches needed if you do the jailbreak correctly the first time, besides giving Installer.app the right permissions. Most of the things listed in the FAQ are ways to fix mistakes made by overlooking details in the guide (that, granted, may have been recently added) rather than necessities for each jailbreak. My own was very clean once I figured out the right process (the process detailed in the guide).

Then again, its up to you. I agree that there isn't all that much to gain from jailbreaking 1.1.3, but I had no major problems getting it to work so it wasn't much of a hassle (besides a few wasted hours). If you weigh the costs with the benefits and the costs are greater, then good for you - you put more thought into this than most people.

i noticed that the guides changed now and im wondering at step 23 for windows is my iphone suposed to be connected to the computer by a cable?

Just curious if it should take longer then normal maybe? It refuses to go past the Apple logo but I've left it for less then five minutes each time. I guess I'll just wait and pray, but I doubt that's going to help.

Is it a sign of a hardware problem or?

This happened to me, only i was trying to reboot the phone after a crash (red silder never came up as it was frozen). Bit crap if you're out and about and the phone freezes (likely surely if you're running jailbroken apps!) - need to wait to get home before you can get the phone working :(

Following this method to Update my Jailbroken O2 iPhone, it seems that I could just follow steps 1-18, then install iJailBreakMobile and let that perform my soft update?

can someone show me how to write up the code for terminal for mac when i try to restore the phone service

Wait, so you mean it does this every time you don't shut down cleanly? That can't be right. I'd recommend starting over because there's no telling what else went wrong if that's happening.

Same problem I had!

I encountered this exact same issue yesterday afternoon when trying to upgrade my iPhone. I started out flashing to Apple's 1.1.3 firmware from iTunes, and followed all of the instructions after that to downgrade to 1.1.1, etc. But I got stuck right where you're at, with the same problem!

I waited at least a good 10 minutes or so, and the phone never restarted. Finally forced a reboot manually and tried the jailbreakme.com web site from the phone again, but same results on the 2nd. attempt.

I gave up and flashed the phone back to stock 1.1.3 for now so I wouldn't miss any more phone calls.

Im stuck jailbreaking 1.1.1 after installing Appsnapp safari closes and goes back to the activate iphone screen, and thats it the phone doesn't restart..... any help would be appreciated.

I tried what you said in "Whenever I try to install something in Installer.app, it gets to "Installing package" and then crashes back to the Home screen! What am I doing wrong?" but when I do it all of my applications stop working and it says that there is no more room for applications.

You need to remove the "noexec" tag in /etc/fstab on your iPhone. Its probably on the "/dev/disk0s2 /private/var" line if your applications aren't working, gotta take that off. Make sure you remove the comma before noexec too.

If you already upgraded using Nate's method, and start at step 3 of this guide, will you be able to use Google Map's "Locate" feature?

Also, if you upgraded to 1.1.3 using Nate's method, can you just do a restore, then start from step 1?

Thanks.

Justin
