Today I've upgraded my iPhone from 1.1.2 (I bought it "unlocked" online and I do not know how it was unlocked - YouTube, Maps, all the stuff worked fine though). I used Installer to get the 1.1.3 upgrade package and run it...

After a while the phone rebooted and the message appeared how to move the icons on the home screen (looks like 1.1.3 was installed successfully). I noticed some of the icons were missing (3rd party soft and also standard apps like weather and some others). Pressing "home" button to finish moving the icons around didn't work, so I restarted the mobile by holding the "sleep" button and then I kicked it up back to work... ;)

This time, after the Apple logo I got the 'connect to iTunes" screen. I noticed the iPhone is connected to the network (O2, Pay & Go) and even I got the SMS receive notice (I cannot read the whole text as I cannot access the home menu). Below, there's a "slide to emergency" bar...

When I connect to iTunes I'm getting a message there's a problem with my iPhone and I should contact the nearest Apple store... Like "lemonlovr" few posts before... I didn't backup my phone so I would rather avoid to "restore" the iPhone as I assume I would lost my music which I bought on iTunes... :(

I can SSH the mobile, I tried freeing the space on / partition by moving Applications directory and linking it to /var/root/, didn't help though...

Generally it look's like the phone is working, receiving SMS messages, just the "connect to iTunes" screen pops up after every restart...

I tried iNdependence, I'm getting unsupported version of firmware (1.1.3)...

Can anyone help me out? Why am I getting this screen blocking the access to application icons?

I have done all the upgrades following the instructions and everything works fine, but when I put my SIM Card with password protect the phone put a message that the SIM was password protect, I put the password and works but can't get signal, I restart the Iphone and it blocks again the Iphone, with the message Slide for Emergency.

I'm a noob myself so others may be in a better position to help out. Still, some thoughts ...

Why would you lose the music you bought from iTunes? Isn't the purchased music already on your computer? After the restore can't you sync the music back to your phone? Sorry if I'm misunderstanding your situation.

The connect to iTunes screen (I presume you mean the one with the iTunes logo + USB cable) after reboot is a known issue, even on a working, unlocked phone. (So the implicit lesson is, don't reboot by pressing sleep + home button, shut down the phone just by pressing the sleep button + slide the bar if you ever need to).

In my experience, when you connect to iNdependence your phone will be kicked out of that screen and back to working condition. Is this not the case with yours?

Phone isn't working

Hi I have done all the steps again, and after 2 hours I had my Iphone on version 1.1.3 again, but know before the last step I put my SIM Card (TIM Brasil) on the phone, and the phone restart without problem, but can't find any signal from GPRS operators, as before my Iphone is not able to make any call. I bought my Iphone with original version 1.1.2 Week 51 Modem Firmware 04.02.13_G and BootLoader 4.6, I never can use my Iphone as a phone before. After another reboot my Iphone locked again. Using Windows XP and Itunes version 7.5.

Please elaborate on what it means to be "an AT&T customer"

For those of us who are AT&T customers but do NOT have an "iPhone data plan" and did not renew contracts when we bought our iPhones, I believe that we cannot upgrade to 1.1.3 baseband. I've been over this again and again, trying every method out there - and ultimately, I get no cell phone service and the AT&T activation wizard in itunes.

I'd love to be wrong on this, but can someone clear this up? After I go through the entire process here, it matches perfectly - except when I put the lockdownd file on, the phone goes back into the mode with the emergency screen, and the only way out is to start the whole process over again (the trick with *#307# and all that does not work with 1.1.3.

Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong!

Awesome. Thanks so much, but...

This worked perfectly for me (on a Powerbook G4, btw) UNTIL

Installer.app crashed (after only a few apps, too) so I tried the procedure to use symlinks, and now...I can't see any of my applications! Despite the novelty of a blank springboard, I really need to fix this, hopefully without restoring 1.1.3

The article said to post what Terminal said:

# ls -la / | grep Applications
drwxrwxr-x 29 root admin 986 Jan 31 01:33 Applications.old

Any suggestions on what to do? All in all the process was relatively painless, but I hope I don't have to go through it again.

Thanks to anyone who can help. P.S. I'm a Terminal n00b, which sounds weirder than it actually is.

Quick note, since I see this coming up a lot...

If you get "No space left on device" when you try to create the symlink, you need to delete Applications.old first and then retry creating the symlink. The problem here is that when using Installer.app you COMPLETELY (as in x out of x bytes, 100%) filled up that partition and it doesn't even have enough space to create the symlink. As I said in the guide, DO NOT reboot your phone if you do not get the correct output from the "ls -la | grep Applications" command or you'll probably end up with a blank Spring Board since you effectively moved all your applications to another place on the drive where it doesn't know to look for them.

I am in the same place leveldesign is in. I have not rebooted yet. I am new to hacking and using the terminal. How do I "delete Applications.old first and then retry creating the symlink".

Please help

*sigh*

Open up the ssh connection to your iPhone (the "ssh root@..." command), and type this...

"cd /"
"rm -R Applications.old"
"ln -s /private/var/root/Applications Applications"

Now, run "ls -la / | grep Applications" and you should get a line that ends in something like this: "Applications -> /private/var/root/Applications"

If it does, reboot your phone and you should be fine. If it DOESN'T, come back here.

I've purchased the music using iPhone... I didn't sync recently the music with iTunes, some tracks are still only on my iPhone...

The "connect to iTunes" screen which I'm receiving after every time I restart the mobile is I think somehow different to the "restore" mode, as below the cable icon there's a slide bar "slide to emergency". If I use the slide bar I'm getting the dial board, however I cannot dial any number...

The iPhone is getting the network signal, there's O2 logo and full signal strenght, and I've received an SMS while in the "connect to iTunes" screen...

BTW, I remember there was a question before I started updating the phone using the Installer's 1.1.3 pack asking if I would like to activate the iPhone by hacktivation or something like that, and it was written it was not recommended and it's better to activate using iTunes. Besides my iPhone was already activated, so I chose "NO".

i also have the main script execution failed error in installer...:mad:
i used the guide to move things using terminal..
Ive done everything perfectly..
So why isnt this working?

*Finally*, success!!

As per my previous post, I was struggling with the issue of the www.jailbreakme.com web site not ever rebooting my 1.1.1 firmware and jailbreaking it -- so I couldn't proceed further with the steps to get to a jailbroken 1.1.3.

I was going to give up, but decided to give it another try from square 1 while I had some time at work yesterday afternoon. (I had already just given up and re-flashed 1.1.3 from iTunes to get me back to a working, factory state.)

Once again, I had the same problems with jailbreakme.com not working, even after numerous attempts. I read some tips people offered on other web sites to make it work and tried them all, but no joy. (They included making sure the phone was actually attached to a USB port on your computer while doing the operation, making sure iTunes was open and running while doing it, and closing all "tabs" in Safari on the iPhone *except* the jailbreakme.com site before initiating the program.)

It would simply sit at a blank screen and never reboot.....

I finally brought it home to attempt it again from my home wi-fi router. (A few people said trying from different wireless routers finally made it work for them.) STILL, no joy, UNTIL, I tried one last time with it docked in the cradle connected to my Mac Pro at home. (It was a Windows XP PC I was using it with at work.) All of a sudden, BOOM, it worked! Makes NO sense to me ... but it's obviously a really "touchy" thing. Anyone stuck with this problem needs to keep trying all sorts of combinations of things until it finally jailbreaks for you!

After that, the rest of the steps worked great for me. (I used "bosstool" downloaded from Installer.app as soon as I had a jailbroken 1.1.3 and could install things, to free up more space. It worked very well, and reported exactly how much room it was freeing up as I had it move over fonts, applications, etc. to the larger partition on the phone.) I've tested YouTube, GMail, iPod functionality, Google Maps and location feature, etc. etc. Everything works great. I noticed the 3rd. party app to give you streaming Internet radio crashes and won't run, but it probably just needs an update.

Installer.app Crashing during Installs

Thanks for the great instructions. I seem to be having the Applications space issue, so I followed your instructions and I don't believe I got the message you said I should be seeing. Following is my terminal session. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks!

# cd /
# cp -rf Applications /private/var/root/
# mv Applications Applications.old
# ln -s /private/var/root/Applications /Applications
ln: /Applications: No space left on device
# ls -la / | grep Applications
drwxrwxr-x 26 root admin 884 Jan 31 13:17 Applications.old
#

Now, none of my applications are available as all of their icons have disappeared. Help!

I followed Sbrocket's instructions from a previous post:

Open up the ssh connection to your iPhone (the "ssh root@..." command), and type this...

"cd /"
"rm -R Applications.old"
"ln -s /private/var/root/Applications Applications"

Now, run "ls -la / | grep Applications" and you should get a line that ends in something like this: "Applications -> /private/var/root/Applications"

If it does, reboot your phone and you should be fine.

Oh my god I am soooo boared of my native 113 iphone

After 6 months of a hacked phone, playing solitaire and black jack on the crapper, today, the most I had while taking care of business was being able to find exactly where I was taking the crap.

So, I went through this guide and I got stuck after down grading to 1.1.1

When I had it jailbroken and put ok to prep on it, I went to update to 1.1.2 but the directions specifically say option update NOT restore. I had no option as the phone was at the restore from a back up or set up as a new phone. Seeing as I could not get to a screen to update, I set it up as a new phone. then all hell broke loose. I updated to 112, but then indipendence kept crashing and the phone was stuck at emergency call and I had no choice but to upgrade to 113 agan as it was 12:30 and I had to go to work in a few short hours.

So I am going to attempt it again this weekend, but if Iget stuck there, what do I do?

Thanks.

Can someone help me please? I completed the 1.1.3 JailBreak, but when I download SummerBoard and Customize or any theme changing app, nothing happens when I apply a theme...? :/

how long should this take

I've been waiting for two hours now in the putty ssh screen. last line reads "mkdir: /private/var/logs/baseband: File exists" and the screen has not moved or said anything since. My iPhone screen is still black. Is this length of time normal, or should I just restart the process?

I get all the way to the "sh install.sh" part, and I get a parse error?

# sh install.sh
: missing file operand
--help' for more information.
install.sh:cd:4: no such file or directory: /^M
: missing file operand
--help' for more information.

What am I doing wrong?

I had been trying to get my o2 UK OTB 1.1.2 that I had upgraded to 1.1.3 to jailbreak with the phone working. I had tried several methods around. I then came across this guide and it worked a treat I now have an O2 signal and a jailbroken 1.1.3

HELP! my APPS are all GONE

So these are the commands i was typing in
"cd /"
"cp -rf Applications /private/var/root/"
"mv Applications Applications.old"
"ln -s /private/var/root/Applications /Applications"

...and when i typed in the last one, this is what it gave me...

# ln -s /private/var/root/Applications /Applications
ln: /Applications: No space left on device

i don't know why it says no space when i barely put music on it, only like 50Mb:confused:
now when i look at my iphone, all i see is a dock.

Main script execution failed!

If it does, reboot your phone and you should be fine. If it DOESN'T, come back here.

I did just like you said, but now I get an Error in Installer.app which says Main script execution failed!

do you know how to fix this? please help.

Main script execution failed! - FIX

I found this fix at the link below and it worked for me:

http://www.modiphone.net/installer-main-script-execution-failed-fix/

Here are the instructions:

If you didn’t update Installer BEFORE updating to 1.1.3, or did but still get this error and need to fix permissions, try entering these commands via ssh:

#cd /
#cd Applications/
#wget http://repository.apptapp.com/packages/System/Installer.zip
#rm -rf Installer.app
#unzip Installer.zip
#chmod +s Installer.app/Installer
#chown -R root:wheel Installer.app
#rm Installer.zip

This replaces your copy of Installer with the latest version, and sets proper permissions.

Anyone have any idea why my installer.sh script is saying that so many things are missing/has a parse error?

Can somebody help
i get the message "sh can't open input file" somebody please tell me what to do:confused:

Stuck On Post-Jailbreaking Part !!!!

Hi,

I have 0TB 1.1.2 UK iPhone, i jailbroke it and have been using a 02 PAYG sim successfully ever since. I followed this guide from step 1 UPDATED to 1.1.3 using iTunes which has obviously resulted in my Modern Firmware being updated as well to 04.03.13_G. I have had no problems with the updating, jailbreaking, downgrading all the terminal commands etc in this guide. I can successfully update to 1.1.3 but i cant get the fone functions to work, the problem is encountered right at the end. When i run the lockdownd and reboot my fone i get taken back to the screen with the itunes logo, dock cable and slide for emergency bar. This has happened twice now at the last stage so i am assuming it has to be the post-jailbreaking part. I really need some help please as i am stuck with iphone without the fone functions and i cant downgrade because my modern firmware has been upgraded.

Thanks in adavance
