Does this process Work with OTB 1.1.3's. I'm jailbroken on 1.1.3 but cannot get a signal with a working at&t Sim?

I get the following message

# sh install.sh
: missing file operand
--help' for more information.
install.sh:cd:4: no such file or directory: /^M
: missing file operand
--help' for more information.
: No such file or directory

--help' for more information.
install.sh:116: parse error near `\n'

When running install.sh from the iphone itself as well. I have no idea what to do here. Any help?

NO AT&T cell service now - 2nd try

EDIT - PowerPC G5 DP 2.0 GHz - Leopard 10.5.1 - latest iTunes

I am an AT&T paid subscriber.
I started with 1.1.1 & updated to 1.1.3 for the latest baseband modem firmware.
I have followed every step through the process TWICE now.

I can get to a fully jailbroken 1.1.3 with Installer.app & BSD & openSSH.
BUT, here is the problem;

When I download the lockdownd, do this;
chmod +x ~/Desktop/lockdownd
then scp it to my iPhone & reboot I get only the Apple Logo, that's it.

So I SSH'd into it, after having no choice but to do a Hard Reset.
I backed up the ORIGINAL lockdownd to lockdownd.bak before the 2nd attempt to scp the file over to the iPhone.
(In other words, I learned that the first time around, this is the step that screwed me over, so I prepared to have the lockdownd file that at least allowed my iPhone to boot & install App's onto it.)

Now I am having issues with syncing to iTunes, none of my data is being transferred.

Any ideas or questions you may have of me?

Thanks

MarkyMac

I solved the problem I was having but have no idea why it worked. Instead of using pscp to move the 1.1.3 Jailbreak files to the root folder, I used WinSCP's GUI to do the exact same thing. I tested it multiple times; if I use pscp, I get the error about missing parameters when I try to run install.sh. If I use WinSCP to copy the files, it runs without an error. Anyone know why?

this is exactly my problem. I'm convinced that the issue is those of us who are subscribers to at&t (or o2) but have not bought the actual iphone data plan. I broke down and bought the plan, but will cancel it before the contract expires (hoping someone will find a fix for this problem before then).

welcome to the club!

Hi,

I have 0TB 1.1.2 UK iPhone, i jailbroke it and have been using a 02 PAYG sim successfully ever since. I followed this guide from step 1 UPDATED to 1.1.3 using iTunes which has obviously resulted in my Modern Firmware being updated as well to 04.03.13_G. I have had no problems with the updating, jailbreaking, downgrading all the terminal commands etc in this guide. I can successfully update to 1.1.3 but i cant get the fone functions to work, the problem is encountered right at the end. When i run the lockdownd and reboot my fone i get taken back to the screen with the itunes logo, dock cable and slide for emergency bar. This has happened twice now at the last stage so i am assuming it has to be the post-jailbreaking part. I really need some help please as i am stuck with iphone without the fone functions and i cant downgrade because my modern firmware has been upgraded.

Thanks in adavance

Help? I did this guide with success. Unfortunately, I accidentally updated Installer yesterday and now get the crash when I try to open it.

When I try the method here (via terminal on my Mac), I get "no such file or directory". When I try via Fugo, I cannot remove the old installer to add the new one. It won't let me remove the directory/folder despite deleting it's contents. Overwriting doesn't work.

I need to remove Installer completely and reinstall it cleanly. Can anyone advise? Thank you.

I have installer working 3.0b10. But get Main Script Execution error on everything I try. I don't see this addressed in the instructions.

I think I have to restore & start from scratch cuz I think I've tried everything.
I wish this guide had a fugo version cuz it helps to visualize everything.
I ran the move the apps thing and have no idea where they are. I also manually deleted some apps via Fugo but still have the icons on my phone.

Does anyone have an answer for this Main Script error?

And now I have installer crashing again upon open.

Does anyone know how to revert back the Applications from application.old to where they are supposed to be? OR - how to manually delete programs via Fugo? They don't leave the phone. I cannot delete installer manually either.

My phone is toast.

You have to double click the app in Fugo and delete the contents within it before you can delete the .app

I know. It's not been letting me do that. I would delete the contents in the folder to where it was empty, then try to delete the folder.

I finally deleted it via terminal in mac by typeing: rm -Rf Installer.app

I then reloaded installer. Now again I have the Main Script Execution Error with everything I try on the phone. I had moved everything over per the guide Application.old, etc. (that whole section), so IDK why I'm getting this or how to fix.

My apps are under / private/ var/ root/ Applications. My installer says 850 B

I was trying to update my unlocked, jailbroken 1.1.1 phone to 1.1.2.

I installed OkToPrep, shift-updated on iTunes to 1.1.2, and now I'm trying to open the "windows.bat" file, but it keeps on crashing whenever I click on it. Any idea how to solve this?

Otherwise, what can I do to my phone to jailbreak it/get it working again? :(

You have to double click the app in Fugo and delete the contents within it before you can delete the .app. Once deleted, you need to restart the springboard either rebooting the iPhone or go into SummerBoard and restart SpringBoard.

imacdaddy - I removed/reinstalled by using terminal because the above didn't work.

I ran a "DF" on terminal:

Filesystem 512-blocks Used Avail Capacity Mounted on
/dev/disk0s1 545856 505616 34784 94% /
devfs 35 35 0 100% /dev
/dev/disk0s2 15244736 4172576 11072160 27% /private/var

Am I right in assuming my apps didn't move to the media folder and I still won't be able to load many apps? Or - if it looks correct (that my apps were successfully moved).... I'd like to move them back to the right appropriate section so I can try boss tools.

I'm still getting "Main script execution error" on most everything I do.

I'm not getting the error you are getting but I've been banging my head on the table trying to figure out why my installer.app crashes out to SpringBoard when installing apps. Then I ssh'd into the iphone and found the app partially installed and had to delete it. I think I've ran out of space? I'm on this forum and MMi forum trying to get answers.

Success!

This was a fantastic guide and everything worked flawlessly. Thank you for putting together this guide as a useful resource to the iPhone hacks and apps community.

The only problem I ran into as a result of my stupidity is not waiting for the Jailbreak-1.1.3 to fully install via Terminal. After it downloaded the 1.1.3 firmware and displayed 100% completion I assumed it was complete. Turns out it took a lot longer than I thought. Second time around everything went fine

I guess I have to restore AGAIN to 1.1.3, 1.1.1, 1.1.2 then 1.1.3? I can't shake this Script Error. I think my pathways are all screwed up and installer isn't talking to the apps.

Course no one on any forum can tell me where the Apps "should" be before I moved them and screwed things up.

It works from Windows

This is the most complete and accurate tutorial. It works perfectly with my 1.1.2 OTB iphone (ATT). It will be nice to mention to connect to iTune to activate your iPhone once you finish step 31. Cheers.

I found this fix at the link below and it worked for me:

http://www.modiphone.net/installer-main-script-execution-failed-fix/

Here are the instructions:

If you didn’t update Installer BEFORE updating to 1.1.3, or did but still get this error and need to fix permissions, try entering these commands via ssh:

#cd /
#cd Applications/
#wget http://repository.apptapp.com/packages/System/Installer.zip
#rm -rf Installer.app
#unzip Installer.zip
#chmod +s Installer.app/Installer
#chown -R root:wheel Installer.app
#rm Installer.zip

This replaces your copy of Installer with the latest version, and sets proper permissions.

This seems to have saved me. :) Thank goodness and thanks for posting this. I'm not getting the Main Script Error anymore. Another link to it:

Now "Package Download Failed" for each app I try to load. LOL Can't even update installer.

Dont be alarmed. If you check out the STE Packaging site, he said he is having more problems with his host because they are not supporting their part of the bargain. So that has nothing to do with your phone, but rather the hosting, but yes, upgrade to Installer 3.0 ASAP. If you check his website, he will also explain...

Yes - I just figured it out. Whew!

I managed to get my husband's phone all prettied up, clean, working with loads of space. Still afraid to do mine. I was tempted to do the installer version, but ewww... IDK. Still haven't figured out if it's working for people.

But thanks for reporting this as I'm sure others are having issues.

Were you using Windows or Mac? I REALLY want to try this, but I havent heard anything from my fellow Windows users...

I guess we were both successful in solving our issues. Here's what I found to fix the installer crashing due to disk space issue.

1. ssh into iPhone
2. cd /
3. cp -Rp /Applications /private/var/root/Applications
4. rm -rf /Applications
5. ln -s /private/var/root/Applications
6. vi /etc/fstab
7. remove 'noexec' from line 2 if there and save
8. reboot

Guide found here.

I've learned so much just reading, searching and being patient. Previously from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 jailbroken and unlocked, I had used Nate True's method. From reading and prepping myself before hand, it seems like Dev Team's method would be better or "future proof" and will support 3rd party apps when the SDK is made available while Nate True's would not. I don't know if this is true but could be a bunch of fluff. Although this Definitive Guide was simple to do, it appears to have some major issues.

For me it was the disk space and also iTunes (7.5 and 7.6) is synching my Address Book Contacts to /private/var/root/library/Addressbook instead of to /private/var/mobile/Library/Addressbook. I had to manually move the files over for my contacts to show up.

Can someone explain what the lockdown file is? After having my firmware updated to 1.1.3 everytime I start iPhone I am getting the "connect to iTunes" screen with the "slide to emergency" bar below. I am receiving text messages in this "strange" mode. Please read my previous posts in this thread...
Cheers.

This Is The Best Guide In History!!!!!

Guys trust me this is the most accurate in depth guide in the world I have spent at least two weeks thinking about upgrading to a jailbroken 1.1.3 and when I found this I knew that it would work because of all of this guys research instead of relying on a lot of one click fixes or 1.1.3 upgrades on installer he goes to the heart of the iphone using terminal and I now have a jailbroken 1.1.3 working phone with activated service and working google maps with out using navizon or whatever its called.

-I had and iphone 1.1.1, then jail broke to 1.1.2, then tried to go to jailbreak 1.1.3, but screwed up, then upgraded to Apple's 1.1.3 thought I was screwed, found this thread and sucessfully downgraded to 1.1.1, then to jail broken 1.1.2 and finaly 1.1.3JB (got it when it first came out) bootloader 3.9
-macbook pro intel with leopard tried it on G5 powerpc but it didn't work but is worked on my laptop)
