Followed the guide to the letter... everything worked as it said, and everything works well in the end... but still no locate feature in maps. I still have to run another locating program before the locate button will do anything. Thought locate was supposed to work with this method?

mmmmkay... now I'm having a new problem. Even though I was able to install four programs perfectly normally in Installer just a few mins ago, now the final install step of any package I choose is making Installer quit.

I've modified the guide to use modiphone.net's simple Installer.app jailbreak. This is the same jailbreak as rev. 2 of the guide, just simpler to use and no ssh magic required.

EDIT: No I haven't. Adding a couple more steps to make sure you've got the latest Installer.app and have upgraded it to the latest permissions first. I still think your best bet is not going with the Installer.app package and just sticking with the method in the guide right now. It might be a bit longer, but its tested and it doesn't rely on yet another point of failure (in other words, going through Installer.app for a firmware update probably isn't so good an idea if you want to be sure of your update.)

Alleviate a lot of downloading time

Just so everyone knows, if you're one of the early adopters, you can get any firmwares you've already downloaded in:
/Users/YOURUSENAME/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates

This saves a lot of downloading time and makes the process go a bit faster. Also, if you are an AT&T customer and are upgrading your baseband, this is where 1.1.3 will download so you can use the modified script method (shown on page 5). I'm in the process of running install.sh and I'll update when everything is complete!

My iPhone was stuck here:
mkdir: /private/var/logs/Baseband: File exists

But there was a logo stating the springboard was restarting. But it was taking forever so I restarted and now my iPhone is stuck in recovery mode.

What do I do?

Anyone have any idea why when I click on the .bat file in step 17 nothing happens? I get a quick blink of a DOS window and then it disappears.

Question

Doing the 1.1.2 Jailbroken iPhone PC Method. When I get to the PuTTY and do the command cd/ It says, zsh: no such file or directory: cd/

Am I doing something wrong? I ignored that and typed "sh install.sh" and says,
sh:can't open input file: install.sh

Is this correct or do I start over? Sorry for being such an idiot.

Help.

SimFree 1.1.1 unlock

Hi! I have a 1.1.1 iphone unlocked with SimFree method. May I use your system to upgrade to 1.1.3? And where will I start, from step 14?
Thanks!!!

Problem

So, when i finished, i tried to restore my at&t service and it didn't work with the original lockdownd. After i copied the file to the /usr/libexec directory, I restarted the phone and it's non-activated with the connect to itunes image in the background. I can't get out of this screen and the previous method of dialing *307# or whatever doesn't work. I did get these errors when I ran install.sh:
chown: cannot access `/private/tmp/MediaCache': No such file or directory
mkdir: /private/var/logs/Baseband: File exists

i don't know if that messed anything up or not. I also manually copied the restore file to /private/var/restore.zip from the already downloaded file. Help?

Help.

I have the same issue here. Tried different variations:
cd/
cd /
cd\
cd \

Any ideas here?

Thanks,

are there any major reasons not to just use the MMi 1.1.3 jailbreak through installer? does it jailbreak and do everything in one step? jailbreaking 1.1.2 kind of a pain, and if the installer app does it automatically it's obviously more attractive than going through all the annoying steps.

Please someone give us the answer

Hey Buddy...Yes I also tried the variations you did.

Please someone give Todd and I the answer. Help

Outstanding - It Worked!

I went through this guide with a 1.1.3 iPhone (1.0.0 OTB) and ended up with a fully functional 1.1.3 jailbroken iPhone without a snag (well maybe a small one - later on that)!

This is amazing because my initial attempts using the other guides published ended in disaster - one so bad that I thought I had bricked my phone. Kudos to SBrocket for putting this well written and clear guide together and the iPhone Dev Team for coming up with the hacks.

Note that I used Windows XP to do this. The one small issue I ran into was that step 13 had to be run more than once for it complete properly. Beyond that, if you follow the instructions EXACTLY, you should have no problems.

Again, excellent work to all! Its great having all my native apps back!

well i originally jail broke my iphone from 1.1.2 to 1.1.3 using the nate true method and have had no problems with it that is being described by others and was wondering should i jaibreak using dev team's jailbreak method? if so would i have to downgrade again? and does google maps work on dev team's jailbreak? thanks

i have successfully downgraded from 1.1.3 to 1.1.1 and i have the installer installed but i cannot make phone calls. when i turn my phone on it says "incorrect SIM. This iphone must be used with an approved SIM." what do i do???

Hey Green,
By now you've probably realized that that lockdownd file should have gone on your desktop, not in the /usr/libexec dir. Its desktop location is probably coded in somehwere... I had the same mediaCache & Baseband errors, but the lockdownd seems to be clicking right along.

I'm just waiting with baited breath here, with lockdownd stalled at 96%. I expect in mere moments to be jumping up and down shrieking like a little girl on her birthday! :):):)

I started this at 9am

I have: started at 1.1.1 jailbroken. Went to 1.1.3 which didn't work, went down to 1.1.2, blew everything out, went to full 1.1.3 with proper baseband, down to 1.1.1 and am stuck on "emergency call". I see no area where one x's back out of the phone number in that whole weird step section. The jailbreakme says "cannot connect to server". I have no idea why I'm getting these sim errors with a valid AT&T sim.

My phone is dead. And I need it. I have no idea why I'm having these problems. And, is jailbreakme.com down?

I had an iPhone 1.1.1 unlocked with AnySim.
Following tutorial to upgrade to 1.1.3 and upgrade.
At the part where I have to update to 1.1.2
Updated to 1.1.2 and performed Jailbreak. However phone now says Incorrect Sim Please use an approved sim.

What gives?!??! What do I do? I dont want to proceed any further if this is all kinds of ****ed up now.

PLEASE ADVISE

The upgrade to 1.1.2 in iTunes updates the baseband, wiping out your 1.1.1 unlock. So you need to re-unlock with anySim 1.2.1u (i think thats the number). Then when you move to 1.1.3 (via the current jailbreak), the baseband should stay the same (1.1.2's version, unlocked). The 1.1.2 unlock involves installing the app and running it (they recommend turning Airplane mode ON before you do so though).

If you've gone via 1.1.2 at some stage, you will have 1.1.2 baseband (04.02.13_G). So you need to move back up to 1.1.2 for the phone to be happy again. In other words, Oktoprep, option-update to 1.1.2 and re-jailbreak 1.1.2.

still waiting for answer

I have the same issue here. Tried different variations:

This is what I get:

Last login: Sun Jan 27 13:26:15 2008 from 1...........
# cd /
# sh install.sh
sh: can't open input file: install.sh
#

Same here...got this too. Tried to re-boot. Started again. closed all programs running in background. Not sure if iTunes needs to be open or closed...

Re-checked iPhone IP Address...not changed. Iphone seems correct SSH On
Not sure if I should un-install all but essential Third party Apps first. Plenty of room on the iPhone.

You have any luck? Chris

OK, this is confusing, I've successfully upgraded/jailbroken 1.1.3, on a iPod touch, when I install third part apps they show up on the springboard ok and work, when I install apple apps they install (they are in /Applications) but don't show up on springboard, anyone else getting this? any solution?

Great guide,

But it might be worth mention that its a good idea to make sure you grab the update for installer before you begin to jailbreak 1.1.3?

I didn't do this and kept getting a 'main script execution error' whenever I tried to install anything in 1.1.3 (couldn't even update Installer).

Whether this is something that can be fixed after 1.1.3 has been put on the phone I don't know?

Actually, all i had to do was open iTunes and let it reactivate... do'h. btw, lockdownd does go into /usr/libexec on the iPhone. I was copying it from my mbp to the iphone. anyways, all is good! works beautifully.

Right, I followed the guide to the letter, and it worked perfectly until I went to replace lockdownd, it copied to my phone, but my O2 PAYG SIM still didn't work, and when I turned my phone off and turned it back on again, it's on the "Slide For Emergency" screen.

I don't have to go through it all again do I?
