To All Of You Having Problems

I just finished this process and it took me about two and a half hours.

What did I learn?

1. It works.
2. You must follow each step EXACTLY. For example, you must make sure you are typing in each command line EXACTLY as it is written. If you are off one letter or symbol, or ANYTHING, This process WILL NOT WORK. Check and recheck your work when you get stuck. This helped me out tremendously. Every time I thought I was going to pull my hair out trying to get this process to work, without fail I retraced my steps, double checked everything and discovered I had done something incorrectly.
3. I repeat. Follow the directions EXACTLY and this will work.

The payoff is worth it. You get to stick it to the man and you get the iPhone you REALLY want! :)

Fantastic guide! Thanks very much, I had to go through it twice (botched it the first time) but everything's working great now.

Only two questions:

1) Somewhere along the way, I told iTunes to set this unrecognized iPhone up as a new iPhone, rather than restoring the backup I had (which contains all my SMSs, bookmarks, etc), because I was worried that restoring the backup would also restore the firmware to 1.1.3 without jailbreaking it. Since I'm at 1.1.3 jailbroken now, I'd like to either restore the backup somehow at this point (is that possible?) or, if not, I'd be willing to go back and perform the process again, if someone can confirm that restoring the backup along the way won't restore the firmware itself. Does that make sense?

2) Installer.app crashes sometimes for me. For example, installing iPhysics (and numerous other apps), it will download the package, but when it gets to installing, it freezes for a moment, the screen turns black and boots me back to the homescreen without installing the package. Is that a problem with the packages themselves, or with Installer.app? (I thought it might be related to 1.1.3 running apps as "mobile" instead of "root"?) Is there any way to fix this or is it up to the individual package developers to fix their apps themselves?

Thanks again!

Stuck on Step 23. I get an error: "no such file or directory"
I'm typing it correctly.

Which command, exactly?

P.S. I got stuck on step 23 myself for a different reason. The guide must be updated, for windows users - this command ("pscp -r jb113\* root@<IPADDRESS>:\") kept giving me a "\ is not a directory" error. After a while I realized it actually needed to be a forward slash ("/") instead of a backslash. So I believe the correct line for windows users should be this:

"pscp -r jb113\* root@<IPADDRESS>:/"

How can I get onto 1.1.3 and have an activated iPhone on a non-iPhone AT&T SIM? I'm on 1.1.2 jailbroken and would like to try to get onto 1.1.3.

Will leaving the modem firmware intact, as detailed here, work?

1.1.3 Soft Upg. Cleaner?

I just followed all these steps, and they worked great. Thanks! Just one question: I noticed that Installer has a package I can install called 1.1.3 Soft Upg Cleaner. Should I install this?

No, that's for NateTrue's release and the guide doesn't use that anymore.

I'm probably being too nervous, but following step 24, the program running in terminal closed, and now the phone has been sitting at the black screen with the silver apple logo on it for a few minutes. It does not have a little spinning wheel or anything...

I am on round 2 attempting this and I am having the same issue. Is this normal? It has been about 11 minutes at the apple logo.

Once I get 1.1.2 jailbroken, can I just use the official 1.1.3 update. I'm a bit tired of playing around with this right now and will attempt again later, but want a working phone again.

It does restart!!! :), Soo eta was apple logo for like 16 minutes and then it restarted and works. :)

This is rough...

I'm now on 1.1.3 with installer. Again OpenSSH isn't there. I think I need to upgrade Installer. My AT&T phone doesn't work. The lockdownd file says it's an Mpeg-1 Video!

LOL - Grabbing beer now. I've never messed up a phone tweak quite like today. And sadly, this is my husband's phone he needs for work tomorrow. I didn't dare use MY phone! ;)

No SSH Install, Installer.App Keeps Crashing

Guys,

I went to install OpenSSH (I was using the Jailbreak.jar install before) after a BSD SubSystem re-install and the installation crashed half-way through. I now can't SSH into the iPhone and Installer starts and then immediately crashes. Any helpful hints before I start the whole process again?

BTW: Be sure to apply the permissions to Installer ASAP!

SUCCESS! But boy do I feel stupid. :)

I've yet to upgrade Installer. Not sure if it's safe to do so yet, but Maps/calls, etc. works so far.

Sbrocket - Thanks so much for all the time you're taking to help!

so i just upgraded my jailbroken 1.1.2 iphone to 1.1.3 using the guide. it worked with no problems, thanks for the easy guide. however after i upgraded to 1.1.3 my ATT services (phone, edge, etc) worked fine. i didn't do steps 25-30 but everything seems to be working fine. is this normal?

i've managed to jailbreak 1.1.3 but i'm not getting any service at all. does anyone know why this might be?? before i got back to 1.1.3 it was saying incorrect SIM but it doesn't say it anymore...

Did you follow steps 25-30?

I had the same issues as you. But the phone is perfect now.

Okay so I'm on a mac (intel), I've already jailbroken 1.1.2, and I get to the step where you type "sh install.sh", but it says something about not being able to do something (sorry, I accidentally closed the program), and then when I tried to do the process over again, I couldn't even get past step 1. Please help?

confused about jailbreak

I'm a little confused..... I never jailbroke my phone before and I have the lastest apple update 1.1.3. now...

new iPhone with 1.1.3

Ok I am confused will this work with out the box iPhone with 1.1.3 on I just bought it the other day

I waited at the apple logo for about an hour, and eventually just gave up and restored (via option+click on "Restore") from the legit 1.1.3 firmware I had in my iTunes library files. Thank god it worked.
