3rd Party Apps

For those of you who have successfully gone through this procedure, how are your 3rd Party Apps working for you? It seems that a lot of mine don't work any more (iFlix, MobileChat, AFP Server, etc.)

The guide is now updated with instructions to use the official update from the iPhone Dev Team instead of NateTrue's premature release. If you already updated to NateTrue's jailbroken 1.1.3, please see the message in "BEFORE YOU START."

Sorry, it took so long - even Demis get tired of jailbreaking after about 8 hours.

Just a quick note: I preserved the lockdownd fix in "Post-jailbreaking" because, at least for me, the version of iPhone Dev Team's jailbreak that isn't supposed to mess with lockdownd didn't work for me right off the bat.

Do we have to update to the official 1.1.3 (to get the newest modem software) and downgrade to get the locate me feature to work? I am with ATT and did Nate's and have since returned to 1.1.1 as the locate me feature did not work. I am not clear if I have to do the official upgrade to change to the newest modem software first for the new features. Nobody talks about this. Thanks!

Anywho, I thought that reinstalling Installer would fix my problem, but Installer crashed during the reinstalling, and now it won't load again. Anyone have any ideas?

I just finished everything and as soon as i updated the installer, the phone went into the emergency connect to itunes.

Anyone have this problem or have idea what to do??

Edit: I can make and receive calls....!!! but the screen still says emergency only

Incorrect SIM

after I finished running INdependence my iPhone started saying:

Incorrect SIM Insert an unlocked and valid SIM to activate iPhone

What do I do?

No one has addressed this issue yet...(restoring your settings after 1.1.3 upgrade)

I have yet to see this solved...

after you go through all the downgrades and upgrades, I have yet to be able to restore my settings (all my SMS, Notes, Email, prefs) from my backed up iPhone.

When I've tried to restore from previous iPhone (once in the hacked 1.1.3 state), it doesn't allow this. Does anyone know how to either a) decrypt the iPhone backup files and push them back to the phone or b) force iTunes to give you that "Setup your phone from previous iPhone" page?

Personally, I have two backups from my iPhone, a 1.1.3 backup file and a 1.1.1 backup file, and I cannot seem to get either of them to restore my settings like possible when you setup a new iPhone from a previous iPhone.

Any thoughts?

help I am also getting this message and am not able to place the #307# call and am frieghtend that I killed my phone.

I am an at&t member and started at 1.1.3, before I upgraded to 1.1.3 I had 1.1.1 jailbroken

after I finished running INdependence my iPhone started saying:

Incorrect SIM Insert an unlocked and valid SIM to activate iPhone

What do I do?

Just keep plugging away at it. I had that too. Ignore it & don't worry.

WhiteShadow - I see above for the goofy phone number, you typed #307#

It should be *#307#

I actually had issues here despite calling the right number. I didn't have the part where you back out of the numbers. I ignored that step since it didn't exist, and just pushed through it.

Ok. So amidst the jailbreaking...i think i accidently told my itunes to set up a new phone. I havent synced or anything since so im pretty sure i have a backup of my old deal. Is there a way to delete the "new" phone so that i get back to the screen on itunes where it asks if i want to sync a new phone or my old phone? or am i just plain SOL?

Okay so I'm on a mac (intel), I've already jailbroken 1.1.2, and I get to the step where you type "sh install.sh", but it says something about not being able to do something (sorry, I accidentally closed the program), and then when I tried to do the process over again, I couldn't even get past step 1. Please help?

mac users! im having the same problem! help! someone!

Thanks for the guide, I had official 1.1.3 and now am running 1.1.3JB, just a couple of problems which I hope can be resolved easily.

I ran the full guide using Windows and PuTTY. One of the final commands instructs to run

"chown -R Installer.app"

.. via SSH. This gives the error

"chown: missing operand after 'Installer.app'"

I didn't worry too much at the time, but now when I tap on Installer, it closes immediatelly.

Another problem is during the process I was asked to restore a backup, I was pretty nervous so I backup up my backup directory in iTunes and just told it to start a new iPhone. In iTunes now it's recognised as "temp iPhone" and I cannot restore my earlier backup because it see's it as a different phone.

Any ideas?

Mark

Ok, after about 12 jb attempts I finally got things where I want by going from 1.1.3 -> 1.1.1jb -> 1.1.2jb -> official 1.1.3 jb app. Everything is working, but I have not seen a response yet to others on how to delete any extra stuff off the iphone. I am showing about 200megs of 'Other' data. What directory / files should I remove that would have been created during the jb process?

Sorry lucror, I guess I shouldn't make changes late at night any more. That'll be fixed in a sec.

Thanks for that - the command now runs fine, Installer still crashes immediately though when run.. During the early stages, when in Installer I noticed that there was an Installer update... Should I have updated it at this point?

It crashes immediately, or just when you try to install something? The jailbreak has a copy of the new Installer.app in those files that you copy over that its supposed to make sure and replace the old one with.

It crashes immediatelly - The app opens briefly and I see the Installer app title bar, then before any sources are loaded it closes itself.

I'm about to start the process again, partially to get my backup restored correctly, and partially to have another go and see if I did anything wrong.

I'll repost once it's complete.

You aren't gonna get a signal in 1.1.2 with the 1.1.3 baseband, no. If you have the 3.9 bootloader you could probably downgrade but you'll need to find somewhere else to see how to do that. If you don't have the 3.9 bootloader, then you need to update to 1.1.3 to get a network signal.

Mark, I'm about to add another FAQ to the bottom of the guide about restoring backups. Another go probably won't hurt anything but your time wasted but just so you know.

Guys,

I went to install OpenSSH (I was using the Jailbreak.jar install before) after a BSD SubSystem re-install and the installation crashed half-way through. I now can't SSH into the iPhone and Installer starts and then immediately crashes. Any helpful hints before I start the whole process again?

BTW: Be sure to apply the permissions to Installer ASAP!

Thanks!

I've seen this "permissions" thing re installer here & there.... Such as here
http://www.modiphone.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6#p19

I'm not sure what it does/helps. Do we need to do this and what gain is there?
