It's a pity Dell is still quiet about the version without those bells and whistles. I don't need speakers and a web camera. The question is rather about the design — that bold top bar looks cumbersome. U3223QE design is most light-weight and minimalistic for today. I'd prefer to have this version.

It would be great if Dell had some contact where we could petition for a nicer design and also at least the option for a good glossy screen.

This matt coating is simply awful.

Having looked into this more, it seems that the Bluetooth-connected MX Master mouse might be the cause of the Dell monitor waking up....
In my case the monitor starts waking up after activating the webcam. It happens in a dark room. And since there is no way to separately disable the presence sensor, I was forced to disable both.

These are two separate issues. The Bluetooth connection on the Logitech mouse does wake up the computer. Since switching the mouse to Logitech's Unifying receiver over a month ago and going to back to Fast Wakeup enabled, I have not had a single "spontaneous" wake up. Also, the Dell is so much nicer with Fast Wakeup enabled because it then really responds nearly instantly when I sit down at the computer.

Back in October, I mentioned that my solution to the Dell's sensor waking up the computer and display was to stick a webcam privacy cover over it. See my earlier posts here and here.

So webcam privacy filter + no Bluetooth for Logitech peripherals + Fast Wakeup enabled = problem solved for me.

I understandood there were 2 issues. It's just that I had this webcam issue. What's puzzling me is that it wakes up at night with nothing to "sense" in front of it.

As I said, my trick of putting a webcam privacy cover over the Dell's sensor stopped the sensor-induced waking events for me and this solution costs essentially nothing. So I really suggest you try this or test with something else opaque you have handy, like black electrical tape.

The sensor on the Dell seems quite sensitive and probably your room is neither completely dark nor truly constant in terms of what light there is. It could be something surprisingly minor, like LEDs on some other device. But if you don't mind blocking the sensor, it doesn't really matter what the cause is. I installed a sliding webcam privacy cover thinking maybe I'd have reason to sometimes use the sensor, but I haven't done that once. I apparently have zero use for the sensor. ;-)

I think I need to RMA my Dell. Whenever I watch something there is this "scratching sound" coming off the built in speakers. It is especially audible with lowest audio volume setting. This is the kind of annoying "interference" sound like ages ago when you were about to receive a phone call/sms on your mobile phone that were near to speaker.... The issue seems to be present at low volumes only, e.g. system audio 1-2 bar only (& e.g. youtube set to 30% volume).

Anyone else can reproduce the same issue?

Despite all the problems folks have with the Dell 6k monitor, I'm considering the purchase of one, perhaps this year.

Please post any notices of major sales, Black Friday, etc. if you run across one.

I haven't had any problems with my Dell 6K, other than the webcam being a POS and ugly. What problems people having with them?

Also, here's the best deals thus far on Rakuten: Rakuten can be a little flakey with paying out the cash back, but I've never had them not pay it out ultimately. The Walmartr and Best Buy prices are pretty decent. I think I paid $2,179 on Amazon this summer.

Thanks for that info. I just checked out the Rakuten site and their prices with 1% cash-back are much higher than B&H right now. B&H has the monitor for $1880. I've been interested in this monitor for almost a year now and am hoping that an even lower price will pop up this holiday buying season. I'm currently running a 32" Alienware monitor so it's not like I'm desperate ...

$1,880 is frankly a steal for the monitor!

I agree it is a very good price. Having said that, B&H had it for $30 less two months ago so I'm hoping the holiday shopping season will have it go even lower. If I needed a new monitor, I certainly wouldn't quibble over a $30 difference, but I've waited a year, so I can wait a bit more.

Through Rakuten, the Dell U3224KB is being offered for $1699.99. Following their link, I'm taken to the Dell page, where the price is $1999.99. No mention of any discount, which I assume comes through the Rakuten side. As I have never used Rakuten before, how do I confirm/reassure myself I will eventually receive the $300 back?

Just visited the Dell Refurbished page and they have the U3224KB for $1499.99. I've always thought that manufacturer refurbished items are almost guaranteed to work properly as they have been individually inspected. What do others think of Dell Refurbished?

Close to 100% certainty.

Just make sure you have the Raku extension enabled when shopping at Dell (ie check it 10x, throughout the process), note it says 15% discount right now, read any exceptions or exclusions to make sure you're covered, and then you'll be fine (as long as there's no exclusions or exceptions).

Remove any and all ad blockers, including DNS blocks.

1999x.85=1699.

AmEx has the $100 off $500 spend or more at Dell, making this a little sweeter, if you can add that deal to your card via the AmEx web page or app.

Thanks for the tip re: installing the Rakuten extension into Firefox. After doing so, there was a Rakuten icon on the Dell pages as I went through the purchase process. Refreshing the Rakuten website still shows zero cashback, but perhaps it takes a while for the purchase to work its way through channels.

It does. It should show up there a while after it ships.

Thanks for the info. I note that the next payment cycle isn't until February 15, 2025, so I guess I'll be waiting awhile for the rebate check. :)

The rebate check can take a long while. It’ll be pending at least until the close of the return window. Figure 3-6 months before you get your check.

I don't use Raku too much; Retailmenot is better for where I buy. For BestBuy, for example, RTMN credits hit my account about 30 days after purchase, and I can redeem them anytime after that.

I like Rakuten because I get Amex Membership Rewards points. When I redeem them, I generally get 2-4 cents per point in value, so for me it’s a lot better than cash back.

I've skimmed this thread and appreciate the insights shared. It just seems that macOS struggles with 6K HiDPI scaling on third-party monitors, which is unfortunate since I don't want to sell my Dell.

My issue: I use an M1 Max 16” MacBook Pro with the U3224KB over DisplayPort. At default 3072 x 1728 (HiDPI), apps like Final Cut Pro and Photo Mechanic lag when editing video or culling high-res RAW files. Switching to 3072 x 1728 (Low Resolution) fixes the lag but makes text and UI blurry. Lowering to 1920 x 1080 (HiDPI) works fine but defeats the purpose of a 6K monitor.

I've tried safe mode, guest user, cable swapping, HDMI, and firmware/software updates. Activity Monitor shows CPU core spikes during HiDPI scrolling and performance drops considerably. Unplugging the monitor and running the same task on the built-in display (at default HiDPI res) maxes out all CPU cores, yet everything stays smooth. GPU usage shows minimal difference across tests. Day-to-day tasks are fine, but graphics-intensive tasks are unusable unless I drop the resolution.

Does Apple's Pro Display XDR handle this better, or is this a macOS limitation? I'd appreciate any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks again for letting me join the discussion!
