* The USB hub works fine but...the USB cable must be connected when you power up the monitor. First go around the hub was dead, but then I power cycled the monitor and voila, everything works fine. Haven't had an issue since.

Thankyou JKNorth! I have 2 of these monitors and USB was not working on either... dreading a call to Dell support. Power cycling the monitor solves the problem.

Glad I could help!

On another note, I setup my friends iMac 5K today. I like the glass front of that monitor, but resolution-wise the Dell is just as good.

New issue: Can't sync with iTunes to an iPhone 6 through the USB hub on the monitor. It keeps dropping the connection during the sync process.

The hub is a bit of a joke anyway, since there are only two ports (so you're really only adding one port, effectively). So instead of using that hub, I ordered one of these: https://eshop.macsales.com/preorder/OWC-Thunderbolt2-Dock/

Problem solved! (Since I'm using a nMP with 3 Thunderbolt controllers so no conflict with the monitor.)

try these settings and gradually increase the pixel clock...this is what i'm using with my mac mini i5/iris

I finally got my 2715Q today, and struggled like hell to get it running at anything higher than 40Hz on my 2014 Mini with no luck. I even had to do a re-install of OS X! 40Hz is more than tolerable for my use, and I run it at native for Xcode, but I envy those running their monitors at 50+Hz.

A side note, I noticed most people mentioning that they weren't getting the Apple boot screen. My monitor shows the boot screen, so it's possible that it is an updated revision.

I'm terrified of shutting my computer down or letting it go to sleep, I fear that I may run into the monitor not recognizing the signal and having to start from square 1.

Are you using DP or HDMI? I think it shows the boot progress bar and the apple logo with HDMI connection. For me, with DP, only for one second or less at the end of the process, just before the login screen.

On the other hand, about the 50+Hz, you can try my weird setup, at the end is not so annoying having an unused hdmi cable plugged in to achieve the 52hz. Since you have the same hardware, it should work for you as well. Read previous messages to understand what I am talking about. (I am supposing you have a late 2014 mac mini with intel iris 5100).

I'd have the 27" for almost 2 weeks now and just noticed that it's making a faint, rapid "clicking" sound when it's sleeping / power save. Anyone elses do this? Mine's in my bedroom so it's a pretty quiet room.

yeah, no boot screen when i was using it with the dp cable, but with hdmi i did have the boot screen. the best refresh (that was stable) for me was 45hz.

You should be using the DP cable to get higher refresh rates, but I am actually not sure if the Mini is capable of that anyway.

i was using dp to mini dp to achieve the 45hz refresh. mac mini max pixel clock (that seemed stable) was about 400mhz. i sent the monitor back because after 3 weeks of use, it stopped waking up/receiving a signal from the dp. power cycling, unplugging etc wouldn't solve the problem.

Hi wakele. My monitor shows the boot screen when using the supplied DP cable. I tried using a couple of hdmi cables that I had laying around but none of them worked, I don't believe they are hdmi 1.4. Also I think a lot of it depends on the quality of the Iris chip, you may have one that is cherry picked. I feel like my Iris is bottom of the barrel quality :'(

Another problem that I have is my audio gets cut off entirely when turning the monitor off/on. I have to unplug my 3.5mm jack and plug it back in for the Mac to recognize the external speakers. It must be an apple problem with the Mac possibly trying to route the audio through DP.

As of right now my initial impressions are that the monitor is fantastic, but it seems as if 4K is troublesome on Macs. I hope Apple addresses some of these issues, but I'm not holding my breath.

I guess that depends on which Mac you have. I own the late 2013 rMBP and the P2715Q and I don't have any problems with the monitor. I am using it as a "second" external display, so my setup is different than some others.

I turned off the "DCI" setting in the monitor controls and I have no sleep/wake issues. It wakes and sleeps as expected.

yeah, seems to work fine with the rmbp 13"...i didn't have any issues with mine either on that machine, but on the mini, i had lots of problems. both ran the iris 5100 gpu.

It is really strange. The mini is really delicate with the cables, that's true. For me is working fine with any hdmi cable at 4k/30hz, but when I changed the previous one with the one that I am using right now (it was from my XBOX), the computer crashed and it took a while to work with it! Now is working right, with no problems. Appart from than, for me, it doesn't like the supplied mDP cable supplied by Dell, but I know it is working with a pc and another monitor...and for some people works with the MBP and the p2415q...
Anyway, I hope that Apple will read this thread or similar, and decide to fix all the problems with this and other similar screens, because really, this screen at 4k/50-52hz it's amazing (and, of course, at 60 probably better). While I am working with a Windows Xp virtual machine I have to downsize to 1080p without hiDpi, due to video performance problems in my Windows text editor and I feel like crying when I see the difference in the macos environment without the retina mode!

Guys, I'm right on the edge of jumping into 4k with a late 2013 13" rmbp.
I'm torn between the p2415q and the p2715q.
I would use them in HiDPI mode with SwitchResX at around 50hz. Is it achievable and fast enough anything over 1920x1200 retina on the screens with the rmbp? Does someone use them in 2560x1440 HiDPI without graphic problems?
Thank you so much!

Anyone use the P2715Q in Boot Camp/W8.1?

I have two of these displays hooked up to my nMP, and Windows indicates the maximum resolution as 2560x1440 (60Hz). I confirmed this by trying to view a 4K photo at "actual size", and about a third of it gets chopped off.

I have each display on separate TB controller, and they're at full resolution & 60Hz in OS X.

[edit: I figured it out myself - I uninstalled the AMD FirePro drivers, downloaded new ones from AMD, and installed... rebooted, and bam, there was the full 4K resolution! and looks great by the way]

I've had my P2715Q for a little over a week now and haven't had one issue. I use it with my 15" rMBP (see sig for specs) and I run it on 3008 x 1692 resolution. A little bit of lag on animations and the like, but I'll take that with crisp picture and lots of real estate. I simply plug my charger, video cable (provided DP to mDP) and USB cable for the built-in USB hub, press any key on my wireless keyboard and off I go. I even have a Dell sound bar I bought for it (USB) along with a few other USB devices in the built-in hub, never a hiccup. I also use it in a VM of Windows 7, not as crisp as the Mac side, but as expected. Picture looks great, one tiny dead pixel towards the bottom left, but parallel with my dock so unless I change my background picture to something lighter, I'll never notice it. Overall, very happy with the purchase and value (got it from a seller on Amazon, new of course, for $533; had around $75 in AMEX points to bring it down that far). Missed out when it was around $500 at Dell.com, but I believe I still got a good deal. This is the best monitor out there for the money, hands down. 4K, USB 3.0, etc. All for 1/2 of a Thunderbolt Display.

I would love to have a Thunderbolt Display (had one in the past), but the fact it's only USB 2.0, no 4K option and still $999 retail, way too high nowadays.

If anyone has questions about this monitor, I will be happy to answer anything.

One last thing, I also have a Windows box hooked through the HDMI port. I switch inputs whenever I need to maintenance that machine (just a headless storage server, not used for anything else). 1920 x 1080 @ 30 Hz, as expected. Doesn't look horrible, but switching inputs is flawless. Puts the Mac to sleep when I do, but that is expected as well.

so whats the bottom line with these monitors? are they worth the hassle with all its issues? or stay away?

hard question...i used the 24" for close to a month with intermittent issues until i finally returned it to amazon. i struggled deciding what to do next, and ultimately ordered another one. after using the 24" at hidpi i realized that nothing else was going to match the text quality of the 4k. hopefully the new one will have better firmware... ;)

I just want a display with no wake/sleep and boot issues with reasonable color/price. Does that exist?

I don't think the issues people are having are problems with this monitor, but rather driver and EFI issues on the Mac side itself.

If you look at the reviews for the other 4K displays out there, it's all the same story.

For me, it's worth it. I've not yet had a single sleep/wake failure with my nMP.

The only annoyance I have are that the Mac's EFI doesn't display the boot screen, and occasionally OS X Yosemite gets confused about my resolutions and arrangement when I boot back up after a reboot. I'm hoping those will be fixed with software updates.

Other than that, the image is just gorgeous.

My P2715Q is "wake problem free" since the day I disabled "DDC/CI" in the monitor controls. Before I did that, it would not wake up properly. Since then, ZERO issues.
