gotcha... how come this fixes the wake problem though isnt it suppose to help instead? just curious...

Probably just a bug somewhere in the method in which the OSX video drivers interact with the monitor hardware.

See Post #401 on this thread for where I got the tip.

For what it's worth/follow-up to my previous post, I have had no issues with the boot logo showing on startup/restarting. One quirk I've found is after a restart, the resolution resets to 2560 x 1440 (non-HiDPI mode). System Preferences > Display detects it as a TV with no scaled resolution options. I have to unplug the mDP cable from the MBP and plug it back in, then the options come back and I set my resolution again. Not a big deal to me since I don't restart unless forced by an update or installation, but something I thought I would mention.

mmmm well thats kind of a deal breaker for me.. I think ill just get a regular non 4k monitor for now, these are too many quirks(noises, changing resolution, yellowness, sleep/wake issues) for my taste. I know its apples fault. I guess i don't have lots of patience.

That's the same for me. My mac Mini detects the screen like a TV with this max resolution if connected only via DP. That's why I keep the HDMI cable plugged at the same time, and then it always works properly, detected as what it is and I get the 4k-52hz via switchresx via DP (unused HDMI there). I didn't know about your solution. So, it is detected as a TV and then, you just plug and unplug the mDP cable while yosemite is working and it detects the screen well? Only when you make a "normal" restart you have to do that, or every time you start your computer?

Mmm, for me, really, not so annoying the issues, compared to the gorgeous image quality you get...
In my case, right now, it's working stable 4k 52hz, no wakeup issues, no noises...and I am completely sure Apple will fix these issues in the future.
Think about that!

Your eyes will thank you every second of every moment you are in front of the 4K monitor.

on a 1-5 scale, for me this monitor is an outstanding 5. So much so I am going buy another one for my girlfriends home office since I will be doing more work there from now on. Simply don't want to use anything less.

Dell has a 21 day return policy for it BTW.

(I am using a macbook pro retina 2014 with nvidia graphics)

well, I guess I can always try it out. If I dont like it or i cant put up with the stuff after a week or so on normal use then I'll really see if its worth it. Do recomend the 24 or the 27 inch one?

Defiantly the 27", i never understood the 24" purchases, the 27" is not that much bigger and extra width helps with the dpi, a little more legible IMO. I just spent a few days with a 25" monitor a couple of weeks ago, and I guess I am just used to my old 27" iMac because the screen was just so much smaller then i thought it would be. the 24" even smaller.

it comes with a mini DP connector so you don't need anything else. first find the cable that plugs into your mac, then put the other end of it in the middle? port in the back of the monitor.

Well, this is a point of view. I wanted to achieve as much dpi as possible (after getting astonished with the imac Retina...), that's why I chose the 24'. Enough for me, since I have it in my living room, and not working with graphics or this stuff.
Appart from that, in Spain (my country) the difference of price was around 200€ when I decided to buy it...
Both good choices: best dpi VS bigger screen

Good points. Fair enough.

FYI::

On the dell site the P2715Q is currently on sale for $599

orders (like mine) go out the next day.

2011 Macbook Pro

Can anyone comment on what the experience would be like with a 2011 Macbook Pro and the P2415Q? Can I just run 1920x1080 over display port? Will it look OK?

It's about $513 with Dell's Member Purchase Program + the current 10% discount code (PG5P3GGBB92W4Q) for Dell-branded monitors thru the end of this month. And $432 for the 24" (https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=74193310&postcount=1).

I've been biding my time for the 24" to come down on the Program and lurking here for weeks. Gotta find my credit card!

I've had my P2715Q for a little over a week now and haven't had one issue. I use it with my 15" rMBP (see sig for specs) and I run it on 3008 x 1692 resolution. A little bit of lag on animations and the like, but I'll take that with crisp picture and lots of real estate. I simply plug my charger, video cable (provided DP to mDP)

...

If anyone has questions about this monitor, I will be happy to answer anything.

One last thing, I also have a Windows box hooked through the HDMI port. I switch inputs whenever I need to maintenance that machine (just a headless storage server, not used for anything else). 1920 x 1080 @ 30 Hz, as expected. Doesn't look horrible, but switching inputs is flawless. Puts the Mac to sleep when I do, but that is expected as well.

A few questions since you have a 15" 2014 rMBP...

Are you running 3008x1692 in the scaled/HiDPI mode or just regular?

Is a scaled/HiDPI 1440p resolution available to you out of the box? or do you have to install something like SwitchResX?

I'm running the P2715Q @ 1080p HiDPI (52Mhz) with my 13" rMBP (with the help of SwitchResX) but have been wondering if i should upgrade to the 15" to fully utilize the monitor.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe I am wrong but...1080 hiDpi = 3840 x 2160 that is the max resolution for these screens, isn't it?
hiDpi uses 2x the vertical and horizontal resolution, so (1920×1080)x2 = 3840 x 2160, I think you can't get 1440p hiDpi with this screen! I insist, maybe I have missunderstood the hiDpi concept.

You can. It's similar to changing the resolution on my 13" rMBP. The 'best for display' is 1280x800 HiDPI, but I can change it to 900p and 1050p HiDPI for more space.

The nMP and the Retina iMac can output 1440p HiDPI on these Dell monitors (as mentioned earlier in this thread) but I have found it impossible on my 13" rMBP. So I am waiting to hear back from 15" rMBP owners with the 750GT video card if this is possible :)

I'm coming from a Dell 30" 2560x1600 monitor and while the 1080p HiDPI in the P2715 is gorgeous, I lost a lot of screen real-estate and was hoping to settle with 1440p.

I'd just like to say something further about my ongoing experience with the P2715Q I bought.

It's a great 4K monitor, but I noticed something else in the last couple of days.

I have had a need to run it in 1920x1080 HiDPI, and because of the low dot pitch, even THAT resolution looks GREAT on the monitor !!

It's so clear and crisp and the text and images look snappy and sharp. This is a great monitor, any way you slice it.

3008 x 1692 is in scaled/HiDPI mode. No SwitchResX needed. I have the following options, all scaled/HiDPI:

1504 x 846 (Larger Text)
1920 x 1080 (Default for Display)
2560 x 1440
3008 x 1692 (What I Use)
3840 x 2160 (Native Resolution, Really Tiny)

All of these available out-of-the-box.

King 724 are you achieving 1080p HiDPI from your 13" retina using SwitchResX? Why isn't it able to get 1440p? Thank you!

I am using the 2560x1440 to code (more real estate and lag-free with virtual box) and I'd swear that this is not hiDpi...much better than 1080p (no hidpi) but a bit blurry yet, and, according to the info provided by switchresx, no hiDpi...

Could t be bothered to carry on waiting for dell so opted for asus pb279q.

Faster panel, as good as dell, no USB hub , 100 SRGB, about 1-2 % better so certainly on par.

HOWEVER

I have not had a single issue mentioned in this thread with it in Mavericks or Yosemite

Which Mac are you using? What resolution are you running?
