I suspect that Dells are particularly bad at backlight bleeding due to the type of construction at the underside of the frame. It changes if I press the plastic... So even if the panels are often the same across brands, sometimes the assembly technique may vary and give different results. But that's my personal theory.

Indeed. If you feel under the left corner there is a USB-A and USB-C port there and I think the assembly for those pushes against the panel too much causing a strange light bleed in that corner specifically and like you pressing the plastic alters the amount of bleed.

Good evening.
Added a few more pictures.
Almost dark room.
But below left you can see the problem.
Doesn't look that bad in the pictures.

I have had three Dells. The first was from the cheaper end of their range (can't remember the model number), which I returned because of excessive bleed, similar to what you are getting.

I upgraded to an Ultrasharp (U2713H), which had no bleed.

When that eventually died I got my current screen, a P2719H (not Ultrasharp,) and that also has no bleed.

(By no bleed I mean very little, if any, when viewing a black screen in a dark room. Certainly not enough to be noticeable in any normal use. Nothing like what you are getting.)

Personally I wouldn't accept the amount of bleed you are getting. Especially on their allegedly premium Ultrasharps.

@sadibe1974 Do you use the monitor in a dark room? If yes, this monitor is not for you. If no, do you see the bleed in normal lighting conditions?
I have the same monitor and if I take pictures in the dark it looks like yours. The monitor works perfectly fine in daylight and normal lighting of the room at night.

Good evening everyone.
Thanks for the help.
I returned the Dell u3223qe.
Have got me the LG 40WP95-X.
What can I say: sensational.
Ingenious size and perfect resolution.
I can also split the screen with my business laptop.
Wonderful work.

Looks really nice, how is the bleed on that one for you?

Should add that I do get some IPS glow on my P2719H.

But given that it is not a premium model, is really only noticeable in a dark room, is very even across the screen, I am only using it for general purpose home use (browsing, videos, etc), and it makes no practical difference to me, then I have no complaints.

Basically blacks are not really black on this screen. But we already knew that about IPS. Just a limit of (current) IPS technology. Otherwise it is a good monitor, especially for the price.

Hi,
Does the U3223QE use PWM backlight when HDR is disabled ? it's flicker free ?

It appears to be flicker free for me, to double check I've also ran my phone's 960fps mode on it and there is absolutely no change in brightness at all throughout the video.

Doing the same with my IKEA lights (which strobe at a very high >1kHz freq.) will show a mild variation on the slow-mo cam, so I know this technique is somewhat trustworthy.

Thanks, do you have Smart HDR enabled in monitor controls ? and what is your brightness level ?

I usually have Smart HDR enabled (DisplayHDR 400), but I tested with it Off as well and the results are the same. My brightness is at 71%

Just received mine (Rev A02). I'm very happy so far but the screen does seem to have a pretty stark green tint. Reading this thread and elsewhere, that seems to be quite common? I've settled on R100, G95, B98 for now.

Users of U2723QE & U3223QE displays.

How happy are you with your display when using 2019 or newer Mac?

What about the with the new LG 27UQ850W vs this Dell?

Both U2723QE and 27UQ850-W use the same LG Nano IPS Black panel but different backlight system. The Dell comes with 'local dimming' with a couple of hundred zones four zones. Perhaps only very carefully comparison side by side in person will notice a difference due to different backlight system.

Also on Nano IPS Black panels. It's a cool development. Honestly though I can't notice a superior difference in a side-by-side comparison through video shot of the screens (not in person). In fact, while watching the comparison video, the non IPS Black panel appears superior because of more details in dark areas. The IPS Black panel loses details in dark areas of the test footage.

Perhaps that's a side effect of video shooting of monitor screens. In person maybe a different story?

FWIW I'm using a 2020 M1 MBA driving 2 x U3223QE's (one via USB-C and one via a 4k60 Display Link adapter). I played around with an old 27" LG5kUF and a LG 42" 4k but at the end of the day I settled into these Dell's.

I use them for office productivity so my priority is screen real estate followed by DPI. If there were a ~34" >5k screen that doesn't cost an arm and a leg I would use two of those - mostly because apple equals 5k not 4k but it's just not a thing right now. Anyway, I don't prioritize >60hz or OLED blacks.

What are you looking for?

So is the U2723QE a good monitor? I see there are some issues but usually happy people don't post. I am going back in forth between the Dell U2723QE and the ASD. I like the Dells price and I can use it with more that one computer.

After dialing in the color I am extremely happy with the monitor.

I just read on amazons site that some people who purchased Dell monitors from Amazon have no warranty coverage. If I purchase the Dell I was planning to buy it from Amazon due to their easy return policy. Antone have an comment on this.

Why not buy from Dell directly? Don’t get me wrong, I am not a Dell fan at all, but they are actually easier with returns than Amazon. At least in the US.
