Samsung didn't show anything today that I would consider buying.

Still liking my S4 just fine.

I somewhat agree with you, but, where is Apple's innovation? And please don't say fingerprint sensor :(

I would say that neither company is innovating, and, in my opinion, Apple's "innovation" has been in stagnation mode for more than a year with no end in sight.

I can work with that, I think at this point as far as specs and tick sheet features are concerned the majority of companies have plateaued. At this point it is all about software and making what is already good better.

Nah, I just can't keep straight when I'm supposed to be literal and when I'm supposed to be general.

Whatever.

I do wonder though - am I not allowed to be an Apple Fan who simply is content with the current offerings? Do I have to be always be critical? Is my lack of overt criticism mean I'm a fanboy and think everything Apple does is perfect?

These questions aren't all directed at you, rather to everyone. I really am missing this here.

Fanboys are calling you a fanboy I wouldn't worry about it your posts seem reasonable.

To some of these guys the iPhone is a feature phone. If you don't agree with them your a fanboy.

Galaxy Gear smart watch, Galaxy Note 3? I have to admit that note 3 is pretty unbelievable. The smart watch is cool but I hate the design, not liking the screws. I do however love the faux leather backing of the Note 3. Oh and it can record 4k video and has 3gb of ram. That is amazing.

What do you all think? Looks like Samsung raised the bar even further. Apple really has to come out with something on the 10th and it better not be just a fingerprint reader and colors.

There's an ebb and flow in business. Samsung's on a roll and Apple is nearly stagnant. It's only temporary and highly variable based on a cadre of fickle buyers. No need to take it seriously since consumers win in the end. Both companies will continue to do well for quite some time ahead.

The Note 3 is the phone of the year in my opinion. Nearly every aspect of this thing is impressive, and it's a complete upgrade from the Note 2, which is still considered a flagship device today. I'll save the rest of my praise until I pick one up, but until then I'm going to wake up every day and see if the Sprint release date is up aha.

Apple is going to embarrass themselves next week by releasing basically the same phones again... But the average consumer is beyond gullible so whatever.

Let me get this straight... It records in 4K but only has a 1080p display? So we are now supposed to purchase a 4K TV or computer that can render 4K video to watch the videos? What the heck?! That's just plain stupid. They call that innovation? I wonder high large those video files are gonna be.

----------

Now apple can copy the Samsung watch and try to improve it and then everyone will say apple is the innovator

Can't waittt to see what apple puts out on the 10th

Anyone want to make a side bet the stocks falls 5% the next day lol

Samsung copied the Pebble watch. What's your point.

Really.. Did you think about what you just posted?
If you WANT to you can record in 4k video. If you have a 4k tv you can view it.
If you WANT to record in 1080p or 720p you can and view it on your device or anywhere else.

Yes it is innovation, no other smart phone has 4k or at least not announced I'm aware of.
Really, it's that simple. Don't think too hard now.

They should've just released the phone in a rainbow of colors. That should brighten everyone's day.

I think the people at Apple have a running bet how long they can keep selling apple diehards a 4" screen and no new features before they absolutely have to upgrade them due to AAPL stock price falling. That moment is not here yet as the stock is doing fine. Guess it will be another year. Suck it up diehards, you got another year of that BS. I left my iphone 4s when the Galaxy S3 came out and have not looked back. I told myself I would come back if apple ever got their act together but since then nothing has changed and Android has improved leaps and bounds over apple. It's starting to be embarrassing.

More credit is due to Qualcomm and the Snapdragon 800 than Samsung, they merely enabled it...

4k TV's are not affordable to the average working class citizen so it's not something that can be used easily. If I can easily afford a 4K TV, I sure as hell wouldn't be using a phone to record 4K videos. I would be using a dedicated high end 4K video camera. Just curious, I'm not sure if I missed it but did they mention what were the FPS 4K was was captured in? I know they announce 60fps at 1080p but I didn't see anything about 4K FPS.

It's gonna suck if 4K video capture will only be available on Octa Core note 3's.

As someone who is a huge watch geek, I think Samsung's attempt falls very flat.

It doesn't do much more than a Pebble. But the battery life is deplorable and it doesn't work with many of Samsung's most recent releases. For the price I would expect something more. Whether that be in function or form.

I like my GS4 well enough, but Samsung does some weird stuff. The Note 3 looks pretty cool but it's a little too much screen for me, I like the size of the GS4.

True, but that could be said of everything Apple has ever put out.
Credit to this company that company etc...

Doesn't change the fact that Samsung has it and is going to sell it before anyone else.

Can't wait to see this 5S with a fingerprint sensor. Done already back in the 90's and Motorola had it in the Atrix 4G in 2011.
Yet somehow this is such a big thing.
When and if it gets announced, it will be "magical", "innovative", blah blah blah. Then someone will point out that it's been done before, the chant will be "Apple does it right.."

So do you make your purchasing decisions based on who made the product/tech first or are your decisions based on which works the best for you?

I make my purchasing decision on what works for me.

Doesn't change the fact that your post was not thought out and wrong..
If you don't have a 4K tv then record in 1080p or 720p.
Really how hard is that. Is it stupid for Samsung to enable future buyers of the Note 3 to be able to record in 4k if they want to? Hmmm. Don't think too hard on that...

Yes because fanboys will fall for that "innovation" when they can't even take advantage of it. By the time 4K TV's become mainstream, all other smartphones will have it as well. Palm had smartphones before Apple and look where Palm is now. What is the FPS 4K video capture? Better hope it's not less than 24.

No reason for it to record in less than 24fps. While not everyone has a 4k TV, people do actually have these tv's and it's a good option for those people to be able to record in 4k if they're on the go with their cell phones. Same way the iPhone's don't display HD video, but you still can record at 1080p.

The Note 3 can record 4K or Ultra HD videos at 30 frames per second (fps) using its 13-megapixel camera.

I actually prefer taking photos on my iP5 than my S4 because the S4's shutter is too damn slow. Higher MP count doesn't equal better image. The display on my S4 is too saturated and doesn't provide true color output. My iP5 does a better job displaying true color reproduction.

Probably similar to how it looks on your non 4k screen ;)

Really?? Where do I begin.
Fanboys are fanboys they will buy whatever their favorite manufacturer puts out.

By the time 4k becomes mainstream and Apple has it then it'll be innovative, is that what you're trying to say?

I will have a 4k tv by the end of the year, but I'm not buying the Note 3 for 4k video.
I'm buying it because I want the bigger screen. I like the way it looks. I have used the Note 2 and like the S-pen. I like the dual windows and running different apps side by side.
I like the speed of the Note 2 and the battery life of it, and the Note 3 will only be faster and have better battery life.
I like being able to stick a 64gb sd card in it.
Those are some of the reasons I'm buying the Note 3 when it goes on pre-order. I would have bought the Note 2 but waited for the 3. Glad I did.

And I could care less about 4k. But you know what. The Note 3 can do it. So what? Why do you keep bringing this up? Did you complain when smartphones could record in 720p and later 1080p? Did you rag on how dumb they were?
Really, your post about how Samsung was stupid for having 4k video was flat out wrong.
Get over it.
