Anyone with experience ordering newly released Mac's in the past tell me when the initial demand tapers off? I want to order the 17 when I see "ships in 2 or 3 days" or abouts that. I can wait.

What you think.... after December, January?
Thanks

The 15" is already at 24 hours so i couldn't imagine the 17" taking to long. prob within 1 week of them shipping... maybe

Bummer.

Mine is supposed to ship tomorrow, but it looks like I will be traveling so I won't be able to get in anyhow for a couple of weeks.

But even if I was not traveling, given all of the massive quality issues Apple has been having all year, notably in their portable line, I have no problem with Apple taking their time to make sure quality is back in their products.

But I am not so optimistic. Given the crappy screens in the mbp c2d's, I am sure Apple is just managing production capability.

Uncertain work schedule

I don't get it? Why would you want to wait until it's 2-3 days and then order? Why not just order earlier and wait in the queue rather than out of the queue? Or are you waiting for them to get the initial bugs out?

You know I wish I could order now, if I only knew the schedule of the ship I am on right now. Shipyard upgrades are due soon which would bring me in but nothing firm, so my schedule is in limbo. I have the luxury to wait until shipping time is reduced to insure a smaller window for delivery rather than ordering just to wait during an uncertain longer window, much like you people are going through right now.

And...and, if the initial bugs are out isnt that a good thing too? Kind of hard to get to an Apple store when your out working in 7000 to 10,000 feet of water.

You know the trick to Command-R on a widget to get it to refresh, yes?

Thanks for the link to the widget. This is exactly what I was looking for!!

Or just click the "Updated Nov 7 at blabla"-line.
The widget is indeed nice, saves me some time from relogging into order status constantly.

!#@$!$!ing widget!

So I click reload on the widget, and it changes from "Shipped by Nov 7" to "SHIPPING SOON!". I got all excited. Literally jumped up and down.

Clicked reload on the order status page. Nothing changed.

The clock had clicked past midnight.

*sigh* damned widget playing with my hopes and dreams of a tracking number :(

I was really hoping it would ship on the 7th in shanghai, so there's a better chance it'll get to California by Thursday. If it arrives on Friday, I'll cry, since I fly out of town early friday morning, and I won't see it until Monday :(

did you order 2-day shipping? when i ordered my 15" DL Powerbook last year at announcement, it air-freighted out of China on Tues Oct 25 and arrived early Fri morning Oct 28 (in SF). this was with standard shipping, so that's what i went with again this year.

I went two day. Many people are actually seeing next day delivery (I assume due to fast Customs clearance).

I just want it before I leave :( I'll feel much better when I have a FedEx tracking number.

Can you define 'stuck'?

Are you in the US or EU?

I just saw this post and panicked! I phoned up customer service to chase my own order, stock 17" MBP C2D ordered on the 24th should be shipping today, delivering to Edinburgh, Scotland.

Apparently there are a bunch of these orders back logged because of demand. I was told that Apple were working on it but that it *could* be up to 5 working days until it's shipped.

Doesn't sound too good.. Let's just hope these dates are for the US, which gives them some more time. My bank account still ahsn't been charged though, so I'm kinda doubtful it's heading out immediately.

why did everyone have to order a 17" MBP, if it was just me it would of shipped by now!!

Well it could be that there are more demand then they expected. A lot of us (myself included) Have been waiting for a while. First I was waiting for a Gen 2 G5 Powerbook (At least a Gen 1). Then after they switch to Intel I wanted to wait for Gen 2 of of the product. Being that we were not sure how well the Intel Transition will go, as well new challenges that these chips will bring. So basically all the people who wanted a MacBook Pro for Professional Use. Waited until they could get The Fastest but yet proven system. I am actually happy that there are not many case modification which could make it a Gen 1 again. Forcing me to wait longer.

eek!!

there had been a hold on my credit card since 11-1.
well, i woke up and bad things. the money's back in my account.
(well it never left, my available ballance was just depressed).
problem is that it's not depressed anymore.

i could be that they remove the hold before they apply the charge. and the charge just won't post until later. ...or it could be i'm about to get screwed.

I ordered 7:25 PST on 10-24... pretty early.
the order status has always and continues to say ship on 11-7 and arrive 11-13.
even though i paid for 2 day shipping... (not worried about that one, it'll change when it ships).
