Quoted from AppleInsider

"One AppleInsider correspondent with a bulk order for the new notebooks at stake did some additional digging. He was informed through his Apple channel that the company did not foresee manufacturing ramp of the new models beginning for at least another week."

Just picked up 2 WAAMQ put options on Apple's stock. Now let's spread the word they're giving people $50 back on their orders. ;)
$50 is peanuts when the alternative is a cancelled order. Apple wants the sale and on machines with gross margins of 25% (or more), giving up 2% on a fraction of orders (since not everyone is going to call and complain) is a rounding error.

Those put options are going to expire worthless, especially when you consider Apple will probably release something unexpected between now and Christmas.

What does that mean? Apple put "ships in 7-10 business days" on its website when the 17" MBP were released. That implies a of manufacturing ramp commensurate with new products. Even if Apple received a surge of orders, under that scenario, they still would have been able to deliver some. But not a single MBP has been shipped! That suggests something occurred to prevent any machines from being manufactured and shipped. Since the 15" MBP have been shipping for well over two weeks, it's reasonable to assume that there's a problem with parts unique to the 17" model.

I got the dreaded delay email at 5pm today.
It told me to expect it to be shipped by the 13th instead of the 9th :(

I wonder if we will ever find out why the 17" MBPs were delayed, I wouldn't have thought it would be the screen as it's the same as the CD ones?

Going to phone apple now and see what they give me.

Last trade was 1.70 on that put, what did you pay?

You have your numbers or your puts mixed up.

Apple is a $40 stock that trades on hype. The ipod fad will ultimately die, and then what will they have? And how many of these delays will result in canceled orders?

The puts could very well go negative by Christmas, but I'm betting the stock drops into the $81 range and I'll pick up a few hundred bucks before that. Even if not, they expire in Jan 08, and Apple always drops during the middle of the year. Not a problem. :)

When I checked the price of the put it was at 1.70, I just copied and pasted this quote from the cboe website:

QAA WQ-A (2006 Nov 85.00 Put) 2.05 -1.05

Nov 09, 2006 @ 14:48 ET (Data 15 Minutes Delayed)

haha, i love how this board seems to have a sine wave of mood. and like.. when it hits the up point, people talk about just about ANYTHING apple.. and when it hits the down point, it's like.. people turning depressed, giving up, switching to the 15 inch model, switching to windows, etc.

kind of exciting dynamic here :p

I got the same date in my email (13th), however when I asked the store support line why the online date was 22nd Nov and the email date was 13th Nov - they said that I shouldnt have got an email saying the 13th ...because the 22nd was the accurate date of shipping.

I dont understand why the official email has the wrong date, is anyone else getting the 'apology' email showing shipping on one date and an online order status showing a very different date????

LOL an interesting look on things I guess! I'm still waiting here though my ship date is 16th (gee hope they don't set that back like the earlier shipping dates). I'm not too bothered about waiting though.

I'm consistent! I always say bad things about Apple. I just like some of their products. :)

Revised ship dates - 2 weeks later than yeserday!

Ordered MBP 17 on 10/31 from MacConnection in USA.

Ship date 11/9
Revised 11/15
Revised again today to 11/28.

Fortunately all the rebates for the accessories with my order ($479 worth) are being extended.

Since the Apple site still proclaims a 7-10 shipping date for new orders, I wonder if they're just trying to get everyone adjusted to a worst case scenario timeframe only to be pleasantly surprised when they ship next week.

Sales rep speculated that the delay could be caused by a dearth of C2D chips since so many other companies are selling Merom notebooks now. Pure speculation on his part.

I just noticed my card's available credit went back up to maximum. I guess this means that the pre-auth expired and Apple hasn't renewed it because we're nowhere near shipping.

What a horrible company™

Marware Makes Great Cases Of All Sorts + 17" Protection Pack Plus

Talking about cases for the 17" - any recomendations?
I like the Marware CEO Milano 17" - $140 and the 17" Protection Pack Plus including a custom-fitted sleeve - $35.
I agree, the Brenthaven bags are the nicest (IMO) and offer terrific protection. I have the Brenthaven Pro17SC and really like it....

Let's just hope these MBPs get shipped before the Thanksgiving holiday (US anyway)...
Don't hold your breath. :D

How 'bout that beautiful $179 Brenthaven Pro 15/17 Backpack shipping in a little less than two weeks from now November 21? 1965 cubic inches.Wow! That's the year I graduated from High School!

I'm part of the crowd now, too...

Shipping 11/9, now 11/15-17

Delivery 11/15, now 11/17-22

Earlier today, I had called the apple online store and the rep assured me that my C2D 17" would ship today (after leaving me on hold for 5 minutes). He said that in China, they'd work all night. Well, looks like he was wrong, or they just went to bed tonight... :)

Will Apple Fulfill All Their 17" MBP Orders In Time For The Jan 9 MacWorld SteveNote?

man. i think if anyone had it, it's be all over this board and we'd all be busy cleaning the backside of our pants ;)
I'm already doing that after seeing a November 28 soonest shipping date posted above. Pretty dreadful prospect for Apple fulfillment of all the 17" MBP orders in time for the MacWorld Expo January 9 SteveNote. Could be a riot in San Francisco. ;)
