let's all attack apple with our already-purchased-and-waiting MBP bags! CHARGE!

My Crumpler Skivvy 17" Gunmetal gives me +2 to attack.. and -1 when used in the off hand.

<edit> the bag also came with tiny matches.. may come in handy!!

I'm already doing that after seeing a November 28 soonest shipping date posted above. Pretty dreadful prospect for Apple fulfillment of all the 17" MBP orders in time for the MacWorld Expo January 9 SteveNote. Could be a riot in San Francisco. ;)

Nov 28th is my birthday, too. I hope it comes before that. I'm traveling next Thursday and wanted it before then! Grrr.

Mine is supposed to be shipped today and i haven't received the dreaded email yet. I have not had any money subtracted from my account and it is fairly obvious that it will not be shipping today. So my question is why is apple waiting to the last minute to tell me that my order is delayed when they have obviously known for a long time. If i was not on this thread i would still be expecting my computer on tuesday. Why won't they tell us anything!!!!!

That is my major frustration with Apple! Everything is "for your eyes only". Apple never comes out and says, "Due to xxx we have to delay your order". Instead they just tell us it is delayed w/o reason, then delay it again. It is a lack of customer support. If we were computers too, we wouldn't care about reasons why, but we are people, who are generally inquisitive, and want reasons. To keep doing business this way, without any reasons given, tells us they know we are in the palm of their hand. There is no where else to go for a Mac... If this was Dell doing this, we could go to HP or vice versa, but since there is only one Apple, we simply have to wait and they don't have to give us the time of day because they know we can't go anywhere else. Kinda sux... I do like their products but I absolutely hate their incessant secrecy.

Apart from the fact that they have not even told me its delayed, i mean they could at least tell me that much. Besides if i do get a delay till december or so i will prob just cancel and then wait till santa rosa or something, i'm already unhappy with the graphics card. I mean NVidia have just bought out the 8800, the vid card is pretty old technology.

Has anyone with an ADC discount been able to get free shipping and $50/$100 discount because of the delays? I called up and talked to a manager, she gave me back my 2 day shipping money and knocked $100 off. Checked online and everything was great but then she called me back 5 minutes later and said I would have to talk with ADC directly. Now the discount does not show up online but she said ADC would approve it.

Clearly Apple made and stockpiled a large number of the C2D MacBooks. I also think it reasonable that Apple is having a supplier problem with a component in the 17" MBPs that is unique to them.

I doubt it. More likely it is simply different manufacturers, or a different production line for the other macbook. Apple gave instructions to start production rolling on both. Like any complicated process, one ran ahead of the other. Think of the Petronas Twin towers in Malasia. The tower that started last finished first. Just a bit of luck, randomness, and different efficiencies.

Why is this delay not a front page story on MacRumors?

Why isn't this a front page news story on MacRumors' site? It is at Apple Insider. I submitted the story on Tuesday night? Am I whacked, or is this legitimate big news about Apple corporation business?

Kinda makes me wonder if MacRumors might be in Mac's back pocket if they only present upbeat news releases about new developments and products.

May have to switch over to Apple Insider. At least they are putting this story front and center.

Also, as a MacRumors newbie, do any of you other older posters know the secret to getting MacRumors to turn this poor business/consumer event into a story?

And yes, it's old news to all us waiting 17"er's, but I still believe bad press is bad press, and Apple doesn't want this story getting real legs in the greater public's mind.

I agree MrVidCam.. why isn't this on the front page?!.. aren't there any rumors on why things are delayed?

Will you cancel? the santarosa release will probably be delayed.. ;p

This is probably one of the reasons they don't tell you that it'll be delayed for 3 weeks or something.. just "delayed" and give you another arbitrary date.

I don't know.. if they delay me.. not cool.. My +25 bluetooth mouse of smiting may have to come into play.

And my empty case for the Mac drubbing, the Booq Python, all five pounds of it. Frankly, it looks a bit too shiny and hip, it's in much need of scuffing up. But I need to up in the mythical Unicorn of a 17" MBP, the 500 GB My Book external hard drive, and hopefully even some video camera equipment.

Yikes! Do a custom build of the 17" MBP and add Aperture or Final Cut Express pre-installed software and watch your ship time jump to 2-3 weeks!
Otherwise, the supposed ship date is 7 to 10 days. That doesn't give me any hope of ours shipping before the 21st of November... and with Thanksgiving that week, we may not see it until November 27th... Now THAT would be horrible...
I mean, I ordered mine Oct 24, 2006 at 06:19 AM PST and won't have it for an entire month?

I just resubmitted the story to the powers-that-be at MacRumors. I really just don't get why Apple Insider sees this as a legit story to run, but MacRumor hasn't.

I have been following this thread when ever I had acess to a public computer. I used to build computers for myself. The last tower I built failed at the beginning of OCT. I decided I needed a laptop since I am on the go so much with college and work. I am currently attending an university for photography. Apple does a good job with their creative design programs I figured it is time for me to switch to mac.

On the 8th I went out and bought one of MacBook Pro Cord Duos. Once the CD2 was announced I orderd one on the 26th and took back my laptop. My biggest issue with the MacBook Pro CD was the 120gig HD with in two weeks of having the laptop I had managed to fill it up with 95gigs of stuff. So i orderd the new 17 inch with the 200 gig HD.

My origional shipdate was 9th (today). With a delivery of the 12th-17th. I just recived an e-mail when saying my order has been delayed. It has been pushed back to the 14th-17th with a delivery of the 17-22nd. I was hoping they would not have to delay my order... I cant really afford to wait much longer.

I am taking 3 courses currently. One of them is an internet corse. Since i have been with out a computer I have not has acess to my podcasted lectures. I had a test last week and managed to get a 40 on it. german class had 2 diffrent online workbook type progams. We get assigned quizzes and lessons to complete online for a grade. The majorty of the work is watching short videos and listing to sound clips and anwsering questions about what you heard. It is hard to do thoes when I have pretty much been able to get acess to public computers and most public computers don't have sound. I am hoping they ship my computer by the 12th, but I imagine it will be shipped closer to the 17th. If they delay the shipments again I will probbaly have to cancle my order. I just cant afford to wait much longer, my grades are too important to me. If they delay it again I will probbaly have to cancle my order and just build myself a new windows desktop. I would really rather keep the laptop... I have allready become spoiled by programs like Apature and Final Cut. Sorry for the rant. I just had to get that off my chest. I figured I would let you guys know too that poeple on the 9th are getting the e-mail now too. All frustrations aside I really look forward to getting my new laptop.

Interestingly my order (details below) included a USB modem (in-case cottage satt internet drops, which it hasn't :p ..etc).. and it hasn't affected my ship date. Suppose the effort of throwing it in the box isn't too much for them though I guess, right?

:p

Not wishing to be argumentative but! For a reseller to have the MacBook instock and inquantity the day after the announcement the units had to have been produced in advance. It is equally clear that Apple had no stock of the 17" MBPs on the day that they were announced. Indeed it appears that they have no stock two weeks later.

I am well aware of the complexities of producing a device as complicated as the MBPs. And as such I doubt that the problem that has caused the delay (and those I mentioned in my earlier message were just my own rumination) got up and bit Apple on the backside the day before yesterday. Apple, in my opinion, was aware of the problem probably on the day they were announced and hoped to resolve the issue before it becam a public problem.

Unlike others here I do not feel that Apple has any obligation to tell us what and why, it would be nice - perhaps - but not required. I do wish, though, that Apple would some how compensate those of us, who for various reasons, must order through a reseller rather than through the Apple store. We are as much, and perhaps more, a part of their customer base as those who buy directly from Apple. I suspect that is not likely to happen.

Mine was supposed to ship today and of course i got an email with a delay notice. now i have to wait till the 15-17th for it to ship.
I was really pissed off and called apple and after about 40 minutes on the phone and having talked to a supervisor, i managed to get 75 dollars knocked off my order price. that isnt too bad. if they delay again and i dont get my order before the 26th, my printer rebate will expire and apple will owe me 100 dollars. will they pay me that if it comes to that?
All and all, i guess i dont mind waiting another week because 75 off plus free 2 day shipping ontop of the edu discount isnt that bad............

I'm not sure how it works, but I think Apple will help somehow on the rebates. I just remember seeing it mentioned in a previous post... I'd call them back and pose that question to them... Please let us know too.
