Man, dont stress yourself out. Me, I'm going to a wedding this weekend.

A big cardboard box on my desk Monday morning would make my month. But I'm not going to get my hopes up, I have no expectations of seeing my macbook before thanksgiving.

Reading more throughout this thread is making me very anxious, its not the fact of delays that bothers me as much of the lack of explanation as to why its so. Some may say stop reading this thread then, I can't, I'll blame Apple for giving me this compulsive obsessive behavior.

chill out kids,.. appl r probably jus doin a few las minute tweaks like updatin th graphic card an addin a bluray drive an hires screen.. itll b worth th wait in th end..

not that im waitin

Well the first 15" MBP back at the start of the year had a few minor updates just before it came out.

So maybe the 17" will have extras, like better graphics, higher res screen, i cant see much more than that happening

No shipments today!

Its after 7:00PM in Shanghai. It looks like there will be no shipments of the 17" machines today either. I'm really curious to know what is causing the delay.

They are waiting for the 1920 x 1200 screens and the 512mb graphics cards :D

Yeah, and maybe they're going to inlay the keys with unicorn horn. mmmmm, mythical ivory.

seriously though.. if they're just slow because the changes to the chassis caused a manufacturing problem, and they're not going to give us hardcore early adopters some goodies, what are we all going to do? rise up and buy BeOS laptops? Amigas? that's why they don't have to worry about us.. the zealots.. they know we'll take it, and dammit, we'll smile when we get them and forget all this obsessive forum refreshing..

Man and somebody at Apple told me mine would definitely go out on the 9th. (Shipping date says 9th-14th from original 7th.)

So I'm on the phone with Apple now. First I was told it would ship by the evening on the 7th, and then I talked to someone who said "yours is scheduled to ship on the 9th. It could even go out the 8th." Now I'm being told the 9th-14th (same as order status) and I'm on hold while the useless rep tries to find out what is going on.

...

Nothing new of course. Now I'm being transferred to a manager. The quest continues.

...

No new information. The manager (a very nice guy actually) said he was told it was due to high demand. That's the same BS Apple is feeding us. He wasn't aware that nobody seems to have shipped any and that there are reports of old models next to new signs in the stores.

He did give me another $50 off, so that makes $100 off total plus free expedited shipping. This puts me ahead of Timmillwood. ;)

So far I'm up $124 on my Apple puts. I'm hoping it drops into the 81 range and then I'll sell them. We'll wait and see. I'll call that another discount for the MBP!

Mine was supposed to ship today but no email yet and my order status still states the 10th:(

Me too. The smart money is on an email being shipped today I think :(

Gave Apple a call again...thought it was time to start getting my discounts. Got the free express shipping. Guess I'm being too nice on the phone...asked her if they were giving any discounts for the machines taking so long and she said they had a policy against giving discounts as they are informing customers about the wait times (?). Anyway free express is good enough for me since I got the ADC discounted machine to start with, and I'm tired of talking to Ron and Julie at Apple :)

Oh ya...Julie said shipping "around the 14th".

I got $100 off on top of an educational discount with free express shipping. You're too nice.

Yeah.. post it when you get it?

Maybe I'll avoid everything since my original shipping was supposed to be the 13th?

It'll be an Italian bad news email, but I'll post an English summary here. I have complete confidence my ship date will be put back.

High demand excuses from Apple sales rep is BS. They haven't even started manufacturing the 17" C2D orders yet. It is typical Apple leaving the Pro users in the dark again. Cheap Macbook C2D (non-pro), low price, close to xmas, and "I'm an Idiot" ads is where cash cow campaign is for Apple right now. My speculation on this matter is obvious due to the enormous stock levels of the MacBook C2D (non-pro) that the resellers have on hand. I called a few resellers yesterday that had 50+ units in stock. I don't think well see a 17" this month. Then again, I may be wrong. I think Apple should include a free copy of software up to $299.00 for those that took the red pill. I could use another copy of Aperature for all the BS waiting on my system to arrive.

I agree. I don't think they intended to not manufacture them, and are having some kind of supply issue... but they're focusing on the Macbooks more than our machines, and frankly it sucks. I'm also betting we don't see any of these this month.

What do you mean by "focusing"? Apple's laptops are handled by different manufacturers, with Quanta handling the pro models and Asustek the consumer ones. Although, according to this report, Foxconn supposedly got the contract to start assembly of the 15" C2D machines. Now, if it really were the 17" machines, this might explain the delay, as Foxconn is new to the Apple laptop biz.

funny how far apple takes secrecy.
...to the point that they end up lying.
......to those who invest the most expensive portable.

it's rather depressing.
