Crumplers Rock

Mine's a Crumpler Skivvy 17" gunmetal..

I have a crisp suit from crumpler for my existing PB17, it's ginormous, but I can carry everything I need and unexpected stuff and rarely needed but nice to haves. It's among the best made bags I've ever used, I had a Ghurka I used to love, but babies make expenses like that out of the question.

For the money, provided you like the styling - it's not the most business-like bag, you can't beat em. I'm not careful with it, and it still looks pretty new, I get "that's a cool bag" 2 years later...

BTW, the chinese calendar intra-thread is hilarious.

60 Hours and Counting

It's about 7.30am on Sunday Morning, 12 November, in Shanghai right now. If we don't see at least one post here from somebody who's received shipping notification for a 17" MBP within the next 60 hours, then it's a a fairly sure thing that we're all going to be getting notification of further delays. I'm watching with interest......and fingers crossed.

Got MOMDSS: Mac Order Multiple Delay Stress Syndrome ?

I know a doctor who specializes in Mac Order Multiple Delay Stress Syndrome or MOMDSS. Anyone need a referral? :p
Her Very First Excellent Post #788 You can be offensive, demanding and rude. It is a choice.

However, having been in the middle of supply chain issues where suppliers swear this or that WILL be available, problems and delays HAPPEN.

Take it easy. Or buy another model. There may come a time when companies start telling YOU to stick it-they are doing their best. If I had been a Apple rep with a few of you, thats what you would have heard.

Imo a lot of you should volunteer for Iraq. Then you'll see
what problems are.
Why if it isn't Dr. Skye herself! :) And welcome to MacRumors you excellent first poster you. :p

So...

My online order status says shipping 14th
My email from Apple says shipping 13th

I just hope it ships, i want it ASAP.

Why does it always happen to me?

The delay better be good! i want a 1920x1200 screen, 1920x1080 will do!

I can still cancel my order, dont know if card has been charged.

Come on Apple if this keeps on too long I will be busy with my Wii!

I just got off the phone with Apple. Nothing new to report, not that I was expecting they would know. I did get the expedited shipping waived and $50.00 off for the inconvenience.

I tried to provide feedback about the experience to someone who was getting essentially their first Mac, and the Customer Service person feigned apathy and really just wanted me off of her phone. I never raised my voice and was very respectful. I guess I expected more (not compensation), but more interest in what I had to say.

I am not saying that P.C. manufacturers don't have issues like this, I'm sure they all do. But, when Apple is trying to make inroads to what is a vastly untapped market, they will have difficulty if this situation is the norm. Especially when you do end up spending more for the Apple name.

The customer service rep told me that they are supposed to ship on the 14th, but as expected no promises were made. I will keep my fingers crossed. I have to have it before the 22nd or I have to cancel. :(

I don't think we'll be getting any positive emails from Apple over the next 3 days. I say that because it's fairly obvious that there must be a shortage of components critical for the MBP (new 17" screens or batteries) and it is highly unlikely that supplies of these components would have arrived at the Shanghai manufacturing plant over a weekend. If they had I'm sure they'd want to get the macbooks pros out the door as fast as possible to placate buyers that are teetering over cancelling their order. Something major is up for Apple to be lying to us about these dates.

Given the fairly horrific reports of faulty screens and power issues that are detailed on another thread I'm beginning to get that horrible feeling that I should cancel the order entirely. I loathe the idea of over-reacting to the situation but for my first dealings with Apple I'm not impressed.

excellent post.

having worked in computer retail sales/management a lifetime ago, i can tell you with absolute certainty the best way to get no help at all is to be a rude, belligerent prick to the person on the other end of the conversation. i personally have invited numerous customers to please take their business elsewhere when they start yelling and cursing. while i never swore back or was directly insulting to rude customers, i did interrupt a number of tirades with a loud "you have a great day!" and then promptly walked away.

the other side of this that i am finding intensely frustrating with today's corporate entities is that nobody is accountable. i have never, ever heard a CS person say "you are right, thats my fault. allow me to fix it." i have never heard "sir, let me find out who dropped the ball and lets see what we can do to fix it." all i hear is "we are sorry but it was something in the (insert other corporate entity here), there is nothing i can do about it, it was not my fault."

because nobody is held accountable it is very easy to employees to say "i am really sorry but there is nothing i can do."

This is normally true...But, today the moon and sun were aligned.

I had ordered a 15 incher and was ASSURED BY MY SALESMAN not to worry about dead pixels. Of course, when I got it, it had dead pixels. Talked to my salesman and he shifted me to tech support who informed me that this was an acceptable problem. I was not happy, BUT I decided that I would be super nice and gracious about it. I called back my salesman, and you know what...

He called customer support and ADMITTED that he had assured me about the screen. He was super nice about it. So, was the the customer service tech. And here is the best part...I didn't blow my carotid artery trying to get them to help me (which is what I normally do, granted it works but to the detriment of my sanity).

So, the moral is always be nice...it is healthier for you. Losing your mind is not worth it. If you get bad service, it is probably b/c they just got off the phone with a maniac.

I asked the cust. serv. rep about the 17inchers and she said yes that she had gotten some angry crazy folks. I could here the strain in here voice about it. She said that they aren't informed by corporate about the details so they can only do and say so much.

Problems are fine. We all understand that things happen and that a company is only as human as its employees. However, when there is a problem and a company waits until the last second to inform us of delays and is secretive as to the issue, that's another matter. Their own reps are kept in the dark as much as we are. Does a "good" company offer secrecy, lack of communication, and outright lies as a way of dealing with customers over what is hopefully only a supply chain management issue?

Nope. Only a horrible company.™

It's companies like Apple that should be upfront and tell us they made a mistake and did not plan accordingly. Instead they remain secretative on the situation and blame it on demand. If demand where the issue...why hasn't a single unit shipped? As for your comment on Iraq...I do recall that Rumsfeld was in charge of "piss poor planning" for the occupation of Iraq. It is that very reason he will be no longer in charge of our defense forces due to the problems associated with war planning and troops levels. I think the person in charge with planning at Apple should be held accountable for the delay and resource issues with the 17" C2D. They should of had units produced before announcing it to the market. It reminds me so much of the "paper launch" of CPU technology between AMD and Intel. Neither could deliver a product on time as promised.

Since I changed my order from a 17" to a 15", I received my shipment notification and I'll have it on Monday...tough luck for you guys....

I really don't understand your intention behind you posting this. Are you purposefully trying to get people angry because you got a 15" before any of us got a 17"? We already know lots of people have one it's not like this is news to anyone.

Now if it was a 17" that would have been a different story...
