let's not get too excited.
i sense something's rather fishy about this.

Yeah I'll admit that I'm pretty skeptical by nature, but I have a hard time believing this. Perhaps it is the other false reports I've read over the last several days. I'm at a point now where I'll probably have doubts until I open the box. :)

I really don't understand your intention behind you posting this. Are you purposefully trying to get people angry because you got a 15" before any of us got a 17"? We already know lots of people have one it's not like this is news to anyone.

Now if it was a 17" that would have been a different story...

hehe.. i think he's trying to make himself feel better about his stepping down to 15.. in a peculiar way :)

you know.. they really must have found some sort of huge quality control problem or something. i can't imagine this being a problem of a supplier - it's been too long. apple has used so many different suppliers and changed so frequently. i'd imagine them simply finding another as they often have.

*shrug* maybe i'm dumb, that's just what came to mind :)

Yup, pretty much. That's what us veterans do newbie...we like to start riots. I'm getting practically the same machine, a week earlier than you are...just letting you know that some of us gave up on the 17" and are getting our machines much earlier because of it....again, just fyi.**

If indeed it is a "huge" quality control issue, then our ship dates are going to shift again. Not only would a new batch of components have to be produced, but they'd have to be tested, etc. Even being optimistic, this process could take several weeks, which pushes our orders into December possibly.

As infuriated as another slip would make me, I've bought all of this stuff for a 17" MBP, so cancelling my order would mean that I've sunk hundreds of dollars on stuff I can't use. I'm stuck.

Good for you. Enjoy your new machine. Not sure why you think your comment would start a riot, what you're saying isn't news to anyone.

Yeah, I think it is a problem with performance of the 17" MBP rather than some lack of parts. Probably they built a few, but when they were booted up, something was not right, uneven screen brightness, loud noise, something.

Also, I think Mac's being secretive with why because - follow the money - they don't word getting out to stockholders, investors, competetors. Mac can't be honest with us because they're scared what impact it could have on their stock.

MovieCutter Intentions Were Totally Benign

Since I changed my order from a 17" to a 15", I received my shipment notification and I'll have it on Monday...tough luck for you guys....

Since you are new here, and welcome, I can understand how you might misunderstand MovieCutter's meaning.

I am 100% Certain he was not trying to get anyone angry. He was reporting in on how his acquisition of C2D MBP is going. He contributes a lot of valuable posts here and is always extremely polite. He is one of our more valuable resources here. So I would like to defend his intention so he doesn't have to.

I would like to suggest that the only person on this board that can make anyone angry is one's self. Anger is created from within not the effect of anything without. Look inside for the source of your anger not to any of these posts. :) Have a nice day.

I actually don't agree. Apple sees what happened with Sony when that company tried to "manage" the battery crisis. IMO, it's possible that Apple isn't directly responsible for this delay and I'm fairly certain that some supplier is getting shredded as a result.

You flatter me sir. I am however, consumed with good wine, and therefore drunk, and will not be able to account for my posts as of tomorrow. But yes, I was just reporting in as a former C2D 17" MBP orderer who has since switched to a 15" since he can deal with Apple's BS when it comes to shipping times...thanks dude!

...*shrug* i've kept up with the other thread about "got your c2d mbp yet?," so i got over that reaction like.. two weeks ago or something. blah :)

.......As infuriated as another slip would make me, I've bought all of this stuff for a 17" MBP, so cancelling my order would mean that I've sunk hundreds of dollars on stuff I can't use. I'm stuck.

exactly why i've not changed either. a sleeve and two bags :p plus, i've been dying to have a 17 for a long time now. and hey - maybe we'll see no Q.C. issues when it finally comes, unlike our fellow 15 breathren. and going crazily optimistic - maybe we'll see a lift in a spec or two? hehe, i suppose i magically have SOME optimism and positivity left in me still - take that, 17" MBP thread!

someone mentioned in another thread that they found the CD 17" MBP to be rather shoddy in screen quality. i hadn't noticed any problem in the viewing radius / uneven brightness myself, and i am one to be picky.. so.. is my vision lying to me when it tells me that the 17 inch panel is pretty on-par with the quality of the 15 (forgetting, for the time being, any of these apparent issues of dead pixels on some 15's)?

and on a different note, it's 3pm on sunday in china right now. if they're working right now, i hope they work their butts off and make a monday morning shipment (tomorrow at midday).. that would make my week - hell, it'd make my restoftheyear :)

That made me smile :) Which is a good way to start having a nice day.

I understand why people would consider going to the 15", but unfortunately I feel that I need those extra inches (and higher resolution) for the work I'll be doing on it. Oh well, it'll get here when it gets here - in the meantime I'm become a master of the waiting game like the rest of you who ;)

Have a nice day!

Intriguing.
Second time they've done this since the MBP C2D announcement...

right now, it is 6AM EST.
and order status says...
"Apple's Online and phone Order Status services are temporarily unavailable due to a scheduled upgrade to our systems.

We apologize for any inconvenience."

The 15" may get to you 3 weeks sooner but you will end up putting up with 3 years of lousy LCD performance

The online order tracking page is back up, and .... still it says that my 17" MBP ordered on Oct 31st is due to be shipped tomorrow [later: oops, got my dates wrong, it says 14th which isn't tomorrow, Monday, is it? -- sorry senior moment there!].

Well, there is a possible world where that could happen. Suppose for example that the problem is a battery one (a batch of batteries for 17" MBPs proved faulty, not to say incendiary). Then, if there is a stash of otherwise complete, ready-to-ship, MBPs sitting there, they presumably could be out of the factory very fast in large numbers within hours of the replacement batteries arriving.

But I guess, even if the hold-up is more serious than that, I'd sure rather have a computer that's passed the stringent quality controls that Apple d*mn*d well ought to be applying to their premium, top-of-the-range, laptop than have a flakey machine ....

(And what's the point of posting that?! Nothing of course, but we all have to have our displacement activities while we are biting our nails in frustration at the wait!)

Still Awake

Just finishing up a graveyard shift...good to see some new postings. Had some hope of a surprise when the Apple Store came back on line, but it greeted me with the unchanged Nov 9th to the 14th.

It is annoying that Apple waits to the last second to tell you that the shipping estimate has been changed.

100 minutes until my relief shows up.

Cheers All

Guys I'm from Singapore... I have only ask for the normal configuration never really check if the CTO will be in at the same time or not.

Asondica nothing fishy about. Me too is waiting for the 17". And base on my apple store that call me, he told me the 17" is in but waiting to be clear only and should be in the store by this week.

Well true or not I do not know. But we will see if I can get the 17" C2B by this week.

WTF? I ordered mine on Oct. 28th (stocker) and it's still not scheduled to ship until the 14th. Grrr. I'm almost afraid to wait for this order.

????? I've never had a problem with 15" screens, I think you may be full of it. Besides, I upgrade at every revision, so I'll have this MBP for about 8 months or so.

Time to change the title of this thread

Will the person who started this thread kindly rename it? And while we're waiting, can someone suggest a few alternative titles? LIke for example:

"I'm such a silly monkey for refreshing my FedEx page 97 times a day to see if my 17" C2D MBP has shipped!"

Honestly, this annoys me. The MBs were released last week, and they're already shipping out. I know that there are few, if any, parts shared between those notebooks and the 17" MBP, but *whining* some of us ordered much more expensive machines, 3 weeks ago.

Mind you, I'm not angry at the soon-to-be-happy MB owners, just annoyed. :( At this point, I'd settle for a tracking number.
