For the anxious

When I ordered my 17" on Oct 31st from MacMall they told me they wouldn't recieve any 17" MBP C2Ds until November 17th. Seems odd that Apple told so many people all these early dates when from the begining MacMall has said the 17th. Just an observation.

For those of you who are so anxious that your willing to change your order I would advise you to wait. I have had a 17" Powerbook for almost 4 years and it's awesome. My wife has a 15" and although it's a great computer my 17" has a definate wow factor. That extra screen realestate really has it's advantages!

Plus for an extra $300 that the 17" costs you get a faster superdrive, bigger screen, an extra USB port and a bigger hard drive... Now that's a bargain.

Please no one get mad i'm not putting you down for changing your order, i'm just letting you know my experience.

peace,
Brian

Slightly off topic but on the lines of being mislead by Apple employees:

After waiting and waiting for the 15" 2.33 glossy to come into the store I just ordered one online and it came in. I went into the local store today to pick up some supplies for my new toy and casually asked if they ever got any in. At first the guy said "Um, yeah...we got a few in, not many." I told him how I'd been on the waiting list and just ordered one and he replied "Ok, yeah...we haven't seen any yet." All the display models I checked were 2.16.

Glad I ordered online.;) Again, good luck on the 17"ers!!

thank you for that rather nice post :)

and i totally agree. why let a week or two push you, especially when you've already waited months anyway!

by the by.. just out of curiousity, why did you order it from macmall?

Hummmm. Not encouraging for those of us on store waiting lists.

The store I'm waiting to hear from has had 15" 2.33's off and on since the release. Who knows if that has anything to do with the 17's - maybe their allocation is different than other locations. My understanding is Apple pretty much determines what they get (quantities, configs, models).

They're a new store (only been open a month or two). Just another data point...

(awaiting stock 17" C2D since the release)

Thanks asondica :)

I ordered from Macmall because they have 6 months differed payment with Bill-Me-Later. That gives me time to transfer all my stuff and sell my Powerbook & PC Laptop before I have to pay for my new machine. Plus they had $150 rebate and Parallels for $9.99.

Black Friday

I read on these boards that the Apple Store usually offers a 10% discount on the Friday after Thanksgiving for in store purchases. I understand it's 10% off the retail price, not the edu prices, but for the 17 inch MBP the 10% off retail is better than the edu price (10% off $2799 is $2519 vs the $2599 edu price). Does anyone know if the 10% off deal is just on stock on hand at the store or can you order from the store and still get the 10% off? The reason I ask is that with the intolerable delays with the 17 inch MBPs, I wonder whether the stores will have any in stock on Black Friday.

I was also about ready to pull the trigger on an order from MacMall, but at the last minute I checked around a bit more and found an even better deal at MacConnection.

17" C2D - $2794 - $150 Rebate = $2,644
Parallels $ 79 - $69 Rebate - $10 Rebate = FREE
Mobile Edge case - $69 - $69 Rebate = FREE
Cordless Logitech Mouse - $29 - $19 Rebate - $10 Rebate = FREE

Free shipping (no rebates needed)

Seemed like the best deal to me. Ton of rebates to keep track of though.

I've had everything here for over a week, except the MBP.

ETA 11/28+

haha, you're damn right that's a lot of rebates.
i'd kill myself if i had to do all the excessive paper work for four rebates XD
then again, the money you're saving -does- make it rather worth the strain haha ;)

How about this. I have emailed apple because my current shipping estimate is 4 days ago, obviouslly not correct. So the response is that in 24 - 48 hours they will get back to me with no doubt an estimate something like 5 days. Looks like i have to wait a bit more before i can start waiting if that makes sence. This is my first apple and i have not seen this great apple service that everyone talks about

are you sure they have your e-mail address entered properly?
they may have sent it to a typo-ed address or one you haven't checked even, perhaps?

just an idea. sorry to hear of your troubles though.
trust me, we're all feeling let down here.

You should just call. Thne you can resolve it instantly. Make sure you push for free shipping if you feel the need and also know that they can refund you up to 50 dollars if you feel you deserve it. Just letting you know man.

Tried that this morning, the guy was useless. Didn't even refer to my case, he just said that they will be shipping in 3 - 5 days. he made it clear thats all he knows and is all he can do.

Heard nothing through the grapewine

It's Monday 4.37 pm here in Melbourne and I'd thought I'd tell you I called my supplier today to have THEM call Apple to ask what the fark is going on with my order. (Ordered 27th, initial ETA 7th)

I have a very good relationship with my supplier and I know I'm on top of their list. I asked them to call Apple for me and they did.

And here's what's pissing me off.

Apple couldn't tell them anything about my order.

Nada.

Not even a, "We expect it to be shipped on bla bla bla."

Nope.

Nothing.

This is getting ridiculous.

i saw we allow 3 more hours before we scream our vocal chords to death.. for the 50th time that is :)

Online purchase is still with no taxes applied (at least where I live). When you buy locally, state and local taxes apply. So there goes your 10% savings.

The surreal thing is I am in Shanghai right now on business. I am tempted to go to the Apple factory and pick up my (long) delayed MBP directly.

While I'm there, I'll grab everyone else's too. Hell, I think I could put the computers together myself faster...
