may i ask : who here has any confidence that they will indeed ship this week?

honestly buddy.. i've been on a steady decine of optimism. and any hint of positivity you see.. is very much faked. this whole bit has been so absurd, really. it's pretty testing.

still, to be honest.. i'd say.. i actually have a positive feeling for the first time in days, after reading these debit charges + ship-cost invoices today.

my own personal feeling would be much more positive were it my account being debited, and if my own shipping charge hadn't been invoiced weeks ago.

Arrrrggg!

I could not wait any longer:(

I called and cancelled my 17" mbp with my awesome bto.

I needed a system asap and decided to just get another desktop.

It was an odd feeling walking into the Apple store and buying a MacPro 3.0 ghz off the shelf.

I had no idea the box was so huge:D

50/50 at best. I think most of us who ordered within the first hour of the announcement on 24 October have now been advised that they'll ship sometime between 10 and 14 November (that's what mine says). So, if they'd got their act together by now you'd at east expect some units to be shipping already. The only other scenarios are that they're saving the lot up for shipment tomorrow or...........I don't want to say this but.......they're about to announce another delay at about quarter to midnite Shanghai time tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm revising my 50% to more like 25%. We should have seen some trickle out by now.

The emails have been sent out 5 pm in every country, not just China.

I agree. But in my experience it's shipment notifications that come through at around 5pm. When Apple sent the first notification of delay it arrived with me at around 11.30pm (Western Australia/Shanghai time) on the 7th November - the day my 17" was actually originally due to ship.

So I'm anxious to see whether I get a shipment notification this afternoon or tomorrow afternoon (or whether ANYBODY out there gets one in the meantime). But I reckon that if we've seen nothing by around this time tomorrow we're in for more delays.

In spite of all the doom and gloom I'm still optimistic that the shipment trickle will start in the next 24 hours and, once it does, we're all going to get what we want.

My friend said his macbook pro 15" c2d was acting up (he works at apple retail) where it would go to sleep, and when it woke from sleep, it did a full kernal panic system crash. He talked to apple and is going to get it replaced, they are sending him a new one. He also heard from an insider from I think cupertino (don't quote me on that) but said the reason for the delay is the graphics card wasn't working properly, or they had bad parts when they were testing right before shipping. So it is my estimate that there may be a 1% chance we will see a whole different graphics card together, if they were having problems with the ATI 1600 or they got a new bach of the chips...don't know if this is true at all...but it;'s what I heard in the grapevine...still waiting for mine!

No charge on my credit card. Yes optimism seems to be fading. But I am still hopeless as I perk up when someone says "better graphic card" Ugh. Well maybe something nice will be in my inbox when I wake up after this graveyard shift,

Cheers to you in OZ and whoever else is awake,

Just off the phone from Apple. Seems unlikely I'll have mine ship today.
He said wait for the email later on to get my new estimated shipping date :(
He mentioned that his supervisor has let them know late last week that there were delays on the 17". He speculated that it was a shortage of parts but that may have been just his opinion.
He did confirm that a 'gesture of goodwill' will be forthcoming (probably €50) after I get the MBP.

Ordered: Oct 24th 7.45pm (GMT)
Original Estimated Shipping Date: 7th Nov
Original Estimated Delivery Date: 15th Nov
Current Estimated Shipping Date: 13th Nov
Current Estimated Delivery Date: 22nd Nov

I really thought I would wake up to good news this morning. I got an email from Apple yesterday afternoon telling me that my credit card had been charged for the express shipping. I looked at the bank to verify it and saw charges for the shipping and for the 17".

So I'm up this morning and still no notification from Apple of the shipment and no change in status on Apple's Order Status page.

Very disappointing!

Does Apple make it a habit to charge customer's credit cards before the goods are shipped? As much as I'm frustrated with Apple's decision to not be forthcoming about why there are delays, I have a hard time believing that actual charges are going through on MBP's that are being further delayed. If that's the case I will not be happy.

Optimist turning Realist

No email. No charge to my card.

I'm not very optimistic Apple will make the Nov 14th shipping date. Consider the fact that they gave many of us a Nov 9 - 14th shipping estimate. I assume they did this because they had reason to believe they might begin shipping as early as Nov 9. It's Nov 13 and still not a single unit has shipped.

I'm normally an optimist but the realist in me says its time to prepare myself to be disappointed by Apple... again

Yeah, it sure was looking like we might have seen some today.

I think we're down to days, tho, not weeks.

Store I'm waiting on still "thinks" they'll see some by/on the 14th.

If their shipments are tied to all the on-line orders, Tuesday's looking shaky already...

Guess I'll fall asleep to StarWars V (they've been playing all 6 all weekend - over and over and over and over..... Nice backgrould for Forum Spy.

Good luck all on those emails. And, I will post the sec I get The phone call.

Cheers all.

Stock 17" MBP C2D sitting a long way from here.

Here's a theory, with apologies to Tom Hanks: There's a missing FedEx plane. It's ditched in the Aleutians (well, they go that way). A surviver's been eating coconuts for 3 days straight (the coconuts migrated). Wanders around the sand a bit and sees something odd. It's a beachball. And it's just sitting on the sand, spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning. And spinning. It's meserizing. Finally breaking free of it's diabolical effects, he continues down the beach and sees a familiar looking box. Its one of our cherished new 17" MBP C2Ds! The survivor opens the box and looks the MBP over throughly, with hope it can somehow help rescue him. He finally sits, exahasted - then picks it up again and stares at. The coconut milk, which was all over his hand, has left a imprint sorta resembling a face with an Apple shaped patch over one eye. An epic friendship begins...... Maaaaaaaccc!

Feel free to complete the "story" so we can find out the fate of our lost friends. :)

(hey, it's 3:30AM. the rambling begins)

Light of Hope

Just had a lengthy discussion with Apple (Europe) about delivery situation of 17" MBP. I was told that:

1.) they will ship out very, very soon in quantity
2.) the person I spoke with got 10 pcs. today (!) and had them in front of his office

So it seem there shimmers some light .... :)

What does "pcs." mean? Do you mean 10 MBP's?

10 Pieces

Well 10 actual verified pieces would certainly cause a bit of an uproar around these forums. I still have to wonder if it is indeed true. Today will be an interesting day. I wonder what the mode of all of us will be 12 hours from now?

Cheers All

Nothing personal but I'll believe someone has a 17" in their possession when i see a picture posted to this forum. Yep, healthy skepticism is a good thing :)

Thanks asondica :)

I ordered from Macmall because they have 6 months differed payment with Bill-Me-Later. That gives me time to transfer all my stuff and sell my Powerbook & PC Laptop before I have to pay for my new machine. Plus they had $150 rebate and Parallels for $9.99.

Are you certain you can combine Bill-Me-Later with the rebates? I've heard others state that MacMall won't honor the rebates with the deferred payment plan.
