Anyone order a 17" MBP from a source other than Apple?
I ordered from MacConnection because of the $150 rebate and all the free accessories (case, Parallels, mouse) after rebates, no tax and free shipping.
I ordered on Halloween (10.31.06) and as of yesterday, they are now saying it should ship tomorrow (Friday 11.17).
If you ordered from someone other than Apple, do you have any info on delivery?

Good news: mine arrived this morning via FedEx
Bad news: it was DOA. I have to ship it back and wait for a replacement.
I also have my name on a couple of wait lists at local Apple Stores; if the managers are in good moods, they might do a 1-1 exchange so I don't have to wait? here's hoping...

sorry to hear that. What failed? or no powerup at all?
Not sure about the Store - probably depends on your relationship with mgr. I haven't heard anything about on-line machine exchanges in stores.

I was talking with a guy at the main San Francisco Apple Store and he said that sometimes they do it. He was thinking that if I just brought it to the Genius Bar, they might do an exchange. But yes, Online and Brick-and-Mortar seem to act as different entities, but I had to order online due to ADC.

I ordered from MacMall also on the 31st but they say mine won't ship until like the 23rd. Glad you are getting yours earlier.

i'm sure it's for the release of the new quad core MBP's, loaded with leopard and including a 10% coupon for an iPhone.
But seriously, is it normal for the apple store to be down for updates at least once a week? I don't normally look at the apple store very often, but since i'm refreshing the order status page constantly at the moment i notice everytime they go down.

some guy on here posted that he ordered from MAC MALL and received his computer (17 C2D)... ug... I ordered from APPLE and all i have are deeeezzz nuts...

I got mine this morning at 10:30am. w00t!!
Mind you I had ordered mine first thing on the 24th.
I got the 17 glossy with 7200rpm disk...... here are my initial comments:
Glossy is pure ownage. I tossed and turned over this one reading forums forever until I said screw it and ordered the glossy. WAY right decision. As I waited for about an hour for my 15.4 matte macbook pro to transfer to my new one over firewire... I couldnt believe the difference. Once everything was up and running with the 2 side by side.... the differences were astonishing. Glossy is teh winnar by a landslide.
Performance is as expected. Unreal. Its as fast as you could ask for out of a system today let alone a portable.
All the other rev 1 macbook pro issues are absent here. No whine or whistle or whatever. Gone is the massive hig temps of the rev 1. This unit runs very very cool by comparison. Im seriously talking night and day here.
Thats about all I can say to this point. This thing completely rocks! Its worth the wait, please everyone hang in there..... I promise you won't be disappointed. Best notebook I have ever seen bar-none.

HOw long is the turn-around in Anchorage supposed to be? Mine has been there since 11 am their time which is 3 EST. Just wondering if the turnaround takes a little while to clear customs?
Have you tried iSnoop? Usually faster than FedEx site. Mine went thru right away...
Yea, mine still says its in anchorage. I wonder what the hold up is. I cant seem to find any flights coming from anchorage to either memphis or ind. I think thats where they all go? Any one find the flights for today?

It was rather fast I have to admit. I called and bitched about the delay and insisted they upgrade my shipping to Expedited free of charge. They agreed.

I got the Hitachi 7200! w00t!!! According to benchmarks that has been the leading performer amongst all drives.

Yeah, what's up with the lack of detailed reports and pictures? Perhaps the screen isn't so good after all.

I have a problem with my screen. At least compared to the MBP CD I have for the 10 days prior to this. At the bottom of my screen there is a section that is lighter than the rest of the screen that is about 50 pixels or so tall and it stretches horizontally across most of the screen, but it has a rounded corner on each side. The best way to describe it would be it looks like a rounded retangle that is halfway on the bottom of the screen and halfway off.
It's not a huge deal, but I know it can't be normal, and I don't want a defective machine, especially given the 3k price tag. I am moving in a few days so I guess returning it will have to wait until after next week.
