I live in the Netherlands but I still have no TNT tracking code. Did you get yours on the Apple Store status page? I also would like to pick it up tomorrow instead of Monday.

On Apple Tracking there were 2 numbers for TNT, both the same.

This then changed about a day after the 2 different numbers, the newer number is the one that worked on TNT website.

Their website isnt very good though, mine still says its on its way from China, when i phoned they told me it was closer, gonna phone tomorrow to see if its in Depot, if not i will have to wait until monday!

'Book has landed! Transferring everything from the 15" MBP CD as we speak! I've always had a 'Book in one form or another, but this is the first time in my life I've forsaken a desktop Mac and gone all 'Book for my biz. I sold off a Powerbook G4, Mac Mini G4, PowerMac Dual G4 and a PowerBook G3 in the last few months and now have a 17" MBP C2D, 15" MBP CD and MacBook CD. Lovin' it.

Got my shipping confirmation email this morning :) Currently showing ETA 28th Nov 2006. No tracking yet. just the usual EU message I think;
How long is it before this changes and gives a TNT tracking number?

Tried http://www.apecode.com/appletrack/ but doesn't do anything yet.

That was via Apple Educational too. Standard config.

Only bummer is that I wanted to change the delivery address and Apple sales said to call after sales when it shipped. But they now say, because it was purchased via the 6 months 0% free with MBNA deal, that they can't change it :( Anyone managed to get it changed with MBNA?

Cheers

I had my shipment notice on the 15th, but Apple's delivery estimate is the 28th too. Although, I've been able to track on apecode, using the 80xxxxxxxx number, which says it's in Shanghai - Flight Booked. Mine is through the apple Higher Ed site.

Anyone guess what this is?

Well, no luck. I'm the guy with the Apple Edu Institution purchase, ordered Oct. 25, given a Nov. 16 ship date, which was then delayed to "on or before" Dec. 4. I just called, and was told that, no, edu orders were not really placed lower in the priority list. She also said that I was basically just unlucky and that they had been told to say there was a huge demand and that they were shipping them out as fast as possible.

When I told her that I could order it TODAY and get it shipped sooner than Dec. 4 according to the Apple Ed Store, she had no explanation and said she could not even upgrade me to expedited shipping.

So, to those who have gotten their MBPs and mostly left this forum, enjoy. I'm now just hoping to have it maybe before Christmas.

Well, I finally got the dreaded email:

Due to an unexpected delay, we are unable to ship the following
item(s) by the date that you were originally quoted:

MA357LL/A, APPLE PORTABLE POWER ADAPTER-85W-USA
will now ship on or before Dec 04, 2006

MA611LL/A, MBPRO 17/2.33/2G/160/256VRAM/SD-DL-USA
will now ship on or before Dec 04, 2006

Again, this was ordered October 25, edu institution purchase, original ship date was Nov. 16. So, they are either out of power adapters, or putting the education channel purchases way down the list. :(

OUCH.. that is truly LAME!!!! Cancel your order and get it at the APPLE STORE..

either that or.. LUBE up and take the ride.. :D

Theres a few of us in the boat with you, ask your apple rep to to a product priority request, it may help. A higher ed edu order placed after my k-12 was delivered last week with a priority request, supposedly there are different allotments for the different stores, consumer, edu, k-12 inst. and higher ed inst. K-12 seems to get the fewest pro machines of the 4. Im hoping to get mine before Dec. but Im not holding by breath.

An awesome machine!

Just wanted to report that my first 24 hours with the 17" MBP have been an outstanding experience. The screen is fantastic; no flaws. The computer is completely quiet - even with my ears close to the fans, I can barely hear anything.

And last but not least, it is super fast! Zero complaints so far.

17incher showed up today in Missoula, Montana!

No dead pixels

I did notice the screen unevennes on startup but since then its perfect.

I am a noob mac user so I am fumbling around with it right now, how do I select 50 emails then take 1 or 2 out of the selection (in windows you ctrl click to remove them from the selected items....).

Order was shipped Tuesday the 14th @ 9:08 Shanghai time, took about 2.5 days to get here!

Also how do I change screen brightness?

In general, just replace ctrl with the apple/command-key, and most shortcuts are the same on windows and mac. Ctrl+B = bold on windows, apple+B = bold on mac and so on.

Screen brightness can be adjusted with the F-keys. Can't remember exactly which ones, as I don't have a mac right here, but I think it's F5 and F6 (there should be small icons of a sun or something like that).

This is not fair. On the TNT tracker my MBP's status has changed from In Transit to "Exception" - anyone know what this means? My tracking's showing like this:

16 Nov 2006 17:37 Shanghai Shipped From Originating Depot
16 Nov 2006 16:00 Pudong International Airport Potential Connection Delay
15 Nov 2006 12:09 Shanghai Consignment Received At Transit Point

14 Nov 2006 12:42 Shanghai Consignment Received At Transit Point

Looks like it's not just Apple that can't cope with the demand :(

Just got my 17"

Stock config, ordered Nov. 1, arrived today in Jersey City, NJ. So far I love it (my first Mac).

When I first started it up, I looked very hard at the LCD (having read all the backlight-problem threads). It did seem to me that just around the edges the backlighting was a bit brighter (like little "borders" all around) but it could be my imagination (the priming effect and all). It also seemed more noticable on the gray background than the blue one. My main concern after reading forums was overall brightness but it seems good.

Now, back to it!

Macbook Pro Received!

Hello all,

Followed this thread for a bit here & there, felt obligated to post. Mac User since the Quadra 610...

I have my 17" MBP in hand and installing. Nothing to report aside from the fact that each and every aspect is perfect: Build Quality, Silence!, Screen rivals my ACD as far as laptops go (Acrylic — IE: The Best, IMO) - there are many aluminum displays @ work, there's no comparison...

Only if I could wear the battery down to calibrate!

Won't say "upgrading" from, rather adding to a PM G5 DP 1.8 (OG) and I am quite impressed. Speed is snappy to say the least, even through Roestta.

Stock config BTW (Matte)

Pictures tomorrow - no unpacking as my dear wife dove in first... HA! Sorry hon, believe in the TiBook 867.

Best,
Dr Geek

Just wanted to say, so far mine is perfect...

I picked it up at 1 pm today and took the afternoon off to play with it.

Started the battery configuration at about 1:30pm it took about 1 1/2 to fully charge, then left it on power for another 2 1/2 hrs, disconnected power and it lasted on battery for 4 hrs 20 mins. (adjusting prefs, setting up airport, copying files, etc.).

Barely any sound from fans or optical drive, in fact I never heard the fans come on. Had it on my lap for about an hour, it was warm but that's it. LCD is perfect also and no gaps or uneveness anywhere.

It's my first Mac and I am extremely impressed!

Good luck to everyone.

How is the size/weight of this thing? Does it fit comfortably on your lap or can you only really place it on a desktop?

This particular question has already been addressed by Kolind but another Windows stand-by that you might miss and which is available in OS X is good ol' Alt-Tab for switching applications. In OS X you use Command-Tab (or Apple-Tab, depending on what you want to call the key beside the spacebar) and, if you go too far, can move backwards through the application list by using Command-Shift-Tab. You can switch between individual windows in an application using Command-` (beside the left Shift key on an English keyboard).

Expose can be used to do all these functions as well but I tend to be a keyboard junkie and try to avoid using the mouse where possible.

I just received my 17 inch, Glossy, 200 GB. It was an EDU order from the 25th. Anyway, it's amazing! The only imperfection I've found is that the left shift key is slightly out of whack. Can that be wiggled back into place somehow? It doesn't interfere with its function, it feels fine. I guess it adds character. One thing I've noticed is that the keyboard is considerably stiffer (which is probably just a function of the age of the machine) than on my old PowerBook, and the keys seem to move farther. I love the two-fingered right click now that I have it turned on. I'm finding two-fingered scrolling to be a little bit painful though. For some reason, it bothers my wrist.

By a magical stroke of luck I scored a PS3 last night. If you're in the market, here's my eBay listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220050421102
