Ok i know a bunch of you people are the type where apple could literally do no wrong, so for those people, im not talking to you, there's no point and you won't even try and understand with an unbiased mind...

So are you starting your argument with "If people understood with an unbiased mind they wouldn't gilt Apple with such unnecessary adoration." ?

Would this also mean that any company that is adored by loyal customers is subject to biased opinion and that any loyal customer capable of positive appraisal is in possession of false personal experience and therefore should be excluded from any further discussion?

I trust that you have no positive things to say about any subject else live in fear of imminent flame attack by your own arguments.

I just know you wrote that first paragraph for me.

Wouldn't it be funny if the next 17" you buy is just great and does everything you ever wanted better than you ever imagined.

What would that make you?

Blissfully ignorant?

Happy?

Also, on here (near the end of the 200GB Hard Drive thread)

Hope that helps. I'm also awaiting receipt of a 17" MBP w/ the 200GB drive. I'm not too worried. I'll be glad to have the space.
Huge help. Thank you very much. Milwaukee's MovieCutter edited HDV with it today on his new 15" with no problems whatsoever.

Congrats on your aquisition. Also let us know how you like yours once you're rolling please.

I did not get my 17" C2D MBP

But I did get my Mac Pro :p

I'm loving it! This baby is so cool -- I've groped it all around, and tough I know it's all Al, I'd swear it's made of Damascus steel! :D

Sorry to barge in on your slumber party like this.

"d) If you are concerned about battery usage (and heat generation), the 5400rpm drives had a lower wattage rating than the 7200rpm or the 4200rpm drives. Based on capacity, speed, and power usage, it's easy to see why Apple's standard drive choice for the MacBook Pro is the 5400rpm model."

so the 200gb uses up more battery? so the battery will last less?

hmm i thought it would be the other way since it rotates less lol

In response to your questions, and in my own defense:

No, i did not start my argument, if you would even call it such in the first place, with the statement you claim, nor did i ever make claims that a person who is loyal to apple has no valuable experience to share in any kind of discussion, even one of a complaint. My friend, the claims you are making are unfair and you should really try and read what it is I actually said in its entirety. Out of your haste you drew conclusions that were simply misinformed...

I do agree that an apple loyalist will bring a biased opinion, however, so would a person with a negative opinion...but that's not the point, what I was talking about was a totally different topic altogether. Loyalty was NEVER the issue. If you define someone who sees NO fault in something as loyal then i feel loyalty would be a terrible trait for one to possess. I like to think that loyalty refers to one who accepts a person, cause or, in this case, corporation as is, positive and negative both. Support a company, be loyal, fine, in fact good, but be intelligent enough that you can admit to its flaws, youd be doing yourself a disfavor by ignoring such blatent weakness. if you choose to do nothing about it, that's a whole nother story, but to ignore it or be blind to such...that is ignorance. To assume apple is perfect in its entirety would be the very same "blissfully ignorant" as you accused of me. For example, as much as i love apple, they do pollute more then they should, however, i will still buy their products, support them, yet it would be truly stupid of me, if i claimed that it doesn't matter, or that they shouldn't bother to seek ways to deliver great products and protect the environment simultaneaously. in this example, polluting would still be a mistake regardless of apple providing a great product, and being perfect in every other sense.

In my rant, i stated that apple is a GREAT company, has GREAT products, and that I have simply expereinced a string of negative experiences which could even be a complete fluke, yet it was a mistake on apple's part nontheless. In fact, if you bothered to have come to me directly about the matter, since it seems you were so offended, you would have seen that I, more then most, give apple the respect it deserves and beyond. When people went yelling at them for the initial delay in MBP's i actually told the sales rep that i understood and did not expect any compensation.

You then took your supposedly rational reasoning to the extent where you somehow drew the conclusion that because i said something negative about apple and those who think that apple commits no wrong, that i had nothing positive to say about anything at all...i wont even begin to refute such a claim...your logic at this point seems impecible.

My suggestion to you:

Read the passage again if you don't mind.
Realize that i in no way was trying to single you out.
Understand that i in no way said any of the things you were trying to make look like i said.
Try and see that we probably both agree more then we disagree.
Perhaps be a little sensitive to the fact that i would much rather be in your shoes and have NO problem with apple, HAVE my GREAT, yes GREAT computer that ive been waiting for forever, finally get rid of windows and have nothing negative to say about you, apple or anything at all for that matter.

So please, dont take offense, be fair. now we've both got our "he said she said" out of the way, from now on let's just call what was said a misunderstanding and move on, i have no fight with you. lets keep these matters between one another and not try and criticise posts just for the fun of it. myself included.

in a more productive light, what i was actually trying to accomplish by that first paragraph was this. I was merely trying to point out that the people who wanted to make ME, the customer, feel bad or subordinate to Apple, were not appreciatted at the moment because of the sensitivity of the issue and that those people who make those comments are the ones who are truly ignorant and actually think that Apple cannot and doesnot make mistakes. I gave and example of such statement in the very next paragraph..more importantly i wanted to reach out to those people who would bother to try and put their selves in my shoes...try and understand that my whole problem was really coming from the fact that i liked apple and their products and that it sucked to be treated that way and continuously lied to and made to feel insignificant. If i truly hated apple, i wouldnt go back and buy their products, i wouldnt say good things about them, i wouldn't still be on this site...i felt i had a valuable experience to share since im sure some are going or have gone throgh something similar...and those people would actually understand and relate, rather then immediately do the same apple had been doing by putting me down...which at that time i had frankly had enough of...

For everyone else who has to deal with all my writing, as well as Kettle's, i apologize. i really hope this thread gets back on topic, i was really enjoying it...believe it or not.

I got mine on Thursday.

I was not going to open it until Monday in the office, but I got so nervous about all of the horific quality issues Apple has been having, and some of the early reports of continued problem, I had to check it out.

So far, so good. Slight uneven screen backlighting, but nothing like my last generation PowerBook which has a gray bar through the bottom 3rd quartile. Is the screen as good as my 1st and 2nd generation 17 PB? No. But an improvement.

Fingers crossed I got a good build.

Man, Apple is really taking the joy out of buying their products. The stress over quality is a total bummer.

I was hopeful that my order was going to be delivered in Belgium today but as best as I can tell it hasn't reached Europe yet since the Apecode tracking information is still showing the laptop as being on a flight from Shanghai and this hasn't updated in the last 3 or 4 days - longest flight I've heard of. While I suspect that it is in The Netherlands TNT still doesn't seem to have heard of my shipment so I expect that the chances of it arriving today are pretty minimal. The customer service agent that I called at Apple (in India, apparently, given that her name was "Sharon" and held an India accent) had even less information than I did so that was a waste of time...

I know with CTO they do an authorization for the amount of the MBP upon ordering, and then they actually charge your account at either the start of the build, or the "boxed and ready to ship" phase. Does anyone know definitely which one it is?

My card just got hit with a $3K charge, so I hope that's a sign that it will go out the door today.

Then again, it's 11pm there. Seems kinda late to ship it out today and have it count as shipping on the 20th... but at least it has been born and is moving. (Well, theoretically!)

I got mine today.. no problems so far..

it's quiet.. no buzz
no gaps in the case
screen has no dead pixels
screen isn't "grainy"
it's not burning me.. (yet)

the backlight is a little bit uneven.. but it looks way worse in pictures than it does to my eye... I guess a CCD is more sensitive than my retina in this regard.

:D

Got my 17" glossy 3gb ram today. Perfect! This is an absolutely gorgeous notebook. Lid closes evenly. Screen is crystal clear with no stuck pixels. Backlighting is not completely even, but I am not bothered by the slight variation.
My god, the glossy screen is sweet. I am loving this!

I was using my glossy for 6 hours before I even remembered the old glossy / matte debate. I had to poke my screen a few times just to check I really had a glossy. No reflections for me.

Hi countach,

May I ask where you ordered your 17" through? I've been wanting to get the 17" since the C2D was announced, but am a little reluctant to order over the web. I'm worried that it will arrive with a dead pixel or some other type of fault. I've rang as many stores as I can find and no one seems to have them in stock :(

Sorry if this has already been asked of you, i'm new to forums so forgive my green-ness :D

Hi,

I ordered through the apple web site within hours of the announcement.

I just picked up my 17" this evening from the Cleveland apple store :D but don't try to get one there unless you had one reserved, apperently they only got a few in, and i was high enough on the list to get a call.

Well that's just terrific. My laptop shipped a week ago and during that 7-day period it has moved precisely nowhere. Somehow I'm beginning to doubt that I'm going to receive it this week (it's still in sodding Shanghai at present) and it'll have been well over a month since it was ordered. So much for 7-10 days...:(

complain!

We were all complaining when they were delayed last week and got about £50 each, I complained so much in the end they said phone us when you get it and we will sort out some credit for goodwill then.

Finally got it

Last Wednesday I sat at SJC's gate A-5 waiting for my flight to LAX, and watching the FedEx MD11 with my Macbook Pro on it taxiing to the FedEx hangar at the airport. Sadly, they wouldn't remove it from the plane and deliver it to the gate :)

It was delivered to my office Thursday. I finally got to unbox my baby this (Monday) morning. It's -perfect-. No dead pixels (that i've found yet), the backlight is even, and the matte screen is gorgeous. Not too hot, not to loud, no bad gaps, etc.

Right now it's sleeping through the middle of the battery conditioning. Tomorrow I'll run pixelcheck, but I think it'll be fine.

Congrats to all who've gotten theirs, and good luck to all still waiting. But for now, I'm outta here.
