My first post here...

I ordered a CTO 2.33 MBP 17" with a glossy screen and 160 GB HD on November 7. They just shipped it today, on the last possible estimated day. Still, I'm surprised they were able to even make this shipment on time based on what I've read here. I have expedited shipping, but FedEx's estimated arrival of Nov 24 at 10:30 am seems a bit early.

I feel bad for the people that ordered much earlier than me. They should have shipped a long time ago.

Woohoo! I got shipping info today! :D No info on the fedex tracker though..just says, "Package data transmitted to FedEx." I hope it gets here before turkey day but it's probably not going to get here until Saturday or Monday :(

Mine is 2 days into shipping and it's a slim chance of arriving this week. I don't suggest having high hopes on that.

First, welcome!

Second, You'd be amazed at how fast things cna get here from China. If yours is on a plane, it is either about 20 minutes from landing, or 2 hours. If the plane clears customs quickly, it should be winging its way to either Indy or Memphis, where it will likely spend Thanksgiving. How quickly it starts moving from there is anyone's guess, but I would think that Friday morning is not out of the question. By Monday though, certainly. Customs on the day before THanksgiving is the real question...

Wow, you're right. I just found out it's in Anchorage, AK. Hopefully, it won't be too long until it's in my hands here in Auburn, Maine.

I've been on flights to and from areas around China, since my family is mostly from the Philippines (islands right next to China). I know how lengthy and unbearable these flights can be.

Well, mine sits in Shanghai for its 2nd day. "Delay beyond our control" is what FedEx cites as the reason. Additionally, with it being Thankgsiving tomorrow, despite being quoted a ship time of by 10:30 Friday, I'm certain it won't happen. FedEx customer service agrees with me.

Plus, for whatever reason, Apple won't let me pick up the computer until one delivery has been attempted, even if it's just sitting there. (Fed Ex says this is at the shipper's request.) Anyone know more about THAT ridiculous policy?

Anyway, glad to hear some glowing reviews of the 17"er. I have hope again. Some people seemed pretty set on sucking it out of me based on the comments I read on here, but it's back now. Yay!

For what its worth, Apple's own brick-and-mortar stores don't even these in stock, mostly, so it's really not like Apple is depriving the other retail outlets. I would expect any company to first ship the online store orders (as they are money in the bank already), then get some stock to its own B&M stores, and then take care of the rest. I mean, if my local CompUSA had these sitting on the shelves, and I was waiting for my order placed the first day (for example), I'd be pretty peeved at Apple for shipping a computer without a guaranteed customer before shipping to a guaranteed one.

This is what I did:

Thanks for all the answers to the questions I've posted.

Mine arrived in Quebec city this morning, FedEx told me they couldn't guarantee delivery before next Wed. (I live in a rural area that FedEx services with outside agents). I asked them to put it on the bus, and after a call to Apple he was able to do this. I'll have it tomorrow at 1pm. It'll be hard not to take the afternoon off (I'm sure I will thou!)

Thanks again, hope everyone gets theirs soon.

Hope this helps...

How did you find out it's in Anchorage?

I just spoke with someone who could only tell me it has been shipped. When pressed, she couldn't even promise me it wasn't still in Shanghai.

I swear, we should get FedEx computers, cool hand-held data entry devices, GPS systems, email, fax machines... maybe even a couple cans with a string between them. Then they'd REALLY be on the cutting edge of ignorance. How can a shipping company not know what is on their planes?

Apple should have given you a tracking number for FedEx or something like that on the "Check Order Status" page of the Apple Store. If you click the link from the tracking number, you get to a FedEx page that tells you exactly where your package is, as well as the status. Here is what mine currently looks like: http://pixelshack.com/img/535597fedex-tracking.jpg

If you want to take it to the next level, you can visit flytecomm.com to track the exact location of your MBP on a flight, based on the vague information from FedEx. Go there and click on "Track Flight." Airline is "Federal Express." Click "Go." Scroll down and select the flight that is closest to the times given by FedEx, and also by departure and arrival cities. You'll get a page that tells you exact information about the flight, and even a black flight map that shows the plane's exact location.

I can tell you that my MBP is on Federal Express Flight 24 from Anchorage, AK (ANC) to Indianapolis, IN (IND). It departed at 1:01 PM and is expected to arrive at 10:36 PM, so it has 2 hours and 32 minutes en route. It's on a Boeing MD11, flying at 33,100 feet and 603 mph.

I guess this is a little more detailed than what Apple told you, isn't it? :)

If that's what your FedEx tracking page shows, then that's probably a good estimate. I guess our computers are fuselage buddies on the same plane, flight 24. They're going to arrive in Indianapolis together in about an hour!

Well, I'm guessing you'll get it on Monday, since Maine is a little bit closer to Indianapolis than California. That's the difference, but you could still get it on Friday. That would be great.

Mine too I suppose.

Thanks for the info on how to track the package battletops. I have been watching that page on Safari every 30 minutes, plus 2 dashboard widgets, all day today. Oh trust me, i know it's there.

Here's my track data. Odd how it's so different from others'.
So with a status of "In transit" I assume that means it's moving toward Indy?

Nov 22, 2006
1:48 PM In transit ANCHORAGE, AK
1:44 PM Arrived at FedEx location ANCHORAGE, AK
1:43 PM Departed FedEx location ANCHORAGE, AK
10:28 PM Shipment exception SHANGHAI CN Delay beyond our control

Nov 21, 2006

2:27 PM Left origin SHANGHAI CN
2:18 PM Picked up SHANGHAI CN Package received after FedEx cutoff 1:29 PM Package data transmitted to FedEx

I am curious though: How can you be so sure it's on flight 24? According to your track data, your stuff left Anchorage @ 1:50ish. The flight, however, shows a 1:01PM departure on Wednesday.

Flight 90 to Memphis, however... that left at 3:09PM. So it seems a tossup.

Oh, I see. I'm certain it took flight 24 from Shanghai to Anchorage (based on almost exact times), but I assumed it continued on that same flight # to Indianapolis. I guess I really can't assume that.

So now, I have no idea which flight it took.

EDIT- How about Federal Express Flight 14, left at 2:06 PM from Anchorage to Indianapolis. Only 16 minutes off from the supposed 1:49 PM departure. It's about to arrive in Indianapolis now.

Got my new lappy this morning. I was afraid I would have to hold out till Monday morning, but Fedex was fast. It left Shanghai on the 21st and arrived this morning the 22nd. Less than 2 days in transit. Fedex tracking is painfully slow on the updates. If you see your lappy scanned into AK, expect less than 24 hours on your doorstep. My other system shipped today and will be here on Friday. Fedex tracking shows it left AK around 1:30pm today headed to Indy. For those that are still waiting on a shipment notice, hang in there, it's worth the wait. My 17" C2D / Glossy / 100G /3GB is lightning fast and the screen is awesome. Only issue I see so far is the screen lid shuts too easy when the laptop is sitting at an angle.

First of all I should at least say that my saga looks to be coming to an end because it's currently "Out for Delivery" with TNT this morning. In that respect, huzzah!

Now the whinge. The order should now be delivered to me at work but since Apple evidently couldn't be arsed to update my delivery details it's going to be delivered at home where no one will be home. Initially when I placed my order I requested to be delivered at work but Apple immediately cocked-up the order by setting the delivery address to be my home billing address. However, since the estimated delivery date was during my vacation when I'd be at home I didn't bother to change this. Needless to say that the delays after ordering meant that the laptop didn't arrive during my vacation last week so Monday I call to request a delivery address update. Yesterday I call to check that the update had been applied because I could see the tracking information on TNT's website stating my home town as the delivery address and was assured that everything was OK. This morning I discover, having called TNT themselves to check where delivery was going to take place, that Apple hadn't updated the delivery address.

Irritatingly, this is the one day this week when I really can't leave the office early...

EDIT: Well, one bonus is that the TNT depot for Brussels turns out to be about 2-minutes drive from where I work at the airport so picking up the MacBook Pro won't be a problem tonight.

Heh. I share your pain on this. It's an OK pain. I work in the public schools. Today being Thanksgiving, tomorrow is also a day off for the kids. I had the computer delivered to work, since I'm never home to accept delivery. So of ALL the days to have it delivered to my workplace, it will be delivered on the one day this month that school is closed but all other services are open and running.

So, after they attempt delivery tomorrow. I get to run out to the FedEx depot and pick it up. At least it'll be home for the weekend.

I guess mine took flight 14, because it left around 2:00 PM and arrived at around 11:30 PM, which FedEx confirmed this morning. Right now, it's in transit from Indianapolis, so I don't know exactly where it's going to.

Same here! I was kinda wondering where it was headed myself. I am a little surprised they are still flying, although maybe they don't take Thanksgiving as "off" as other businesses since I'm sure with black Friday tomorrow, they are pretty busy.

After seeing the movie "Castaway," it's seems like FedEx is the kind of company that would sacrifice a holiday like Thanksgiving to make sure a package is delivered on time.

Just a quick note to say that the machine has arrived at last and that I'm typing this message from it!

Best of luck to everyone still waiting for theirs.
