I’ve bought a pixel 2Xl phone. I thought I would give the pixel line a try. If I like it I will buy a newer device when android 12 comes out. I will continue to use the iPhone as my daily driver but I’m curious to try a pixel phone.
I'm still rocking my XL 2 ? it's showing its age however and the last update to 11 introduced some hiccups. It's one of the few despite it's problems that hasn't been prompting me to retire it.

I don't think I'll have a problem with it. Yes I have a 12 pro max but I also have a galaxy note 4 and for the most part I find it's performance to be fine. Obviously it's not as fast as my 12 pro max but it is fast enough. No real hangups or lags. The only issue is that the battery doesn't last long but that's to be expected due to its age.

You are not going to like the screen on the XL2 unless they changed them. They had dramatic rainbow effects when off center. YMMV

We will see. If I don’t like it, I’ll just shove it aside. I’m more interested in trying out pure android/ android 11 and the camera and the Google assistant Smarts on a pixel phone. I was aware of the display issues when the pixel 2XL launched. XL had a sub par display because it was made by LG. The smaller pixel 2’s display was made by Samsung and did not have any issues.

Well I’ve been using my pixel 2XL for a few days, camera aside I like it a lot more than I ever thought I would. I think notifications are just handled so much better and also media management. Media management is just a mess on the iPhone. I don’t know if it’s poor ram management, but it always loses my place in podcasts. I also love the fact that I can have multiple media cards on the phone, I.e YouTube, podcast, music.
On the iPhone once you play another type of media it replaces the previous media in the control centre tile.

That announced purple iPhone 12 looks almost edible. Sigh, still a little bit of Apple rubbernecking from me but really can't go through with it even though my s7 edge is up for an upgrade.

Yeah stock Android in my opinion is the best smartphone OS still. And I'm using the iPhone 12 Pro Max, my first iPhone in like 7 years, and I like it, the hardware especially is top notch.

But if there's a Pixel 6 XL, specifically an XL version, I will most likely go back.

I've always used samsung phones when using Android. I don't mind Samsung's version of android. I never thought I'd like stock android. However it's very clean and efficient.

Between Stock Android and IOS it's a toss up for me, they are both excellent OS's. I do think that the complete package is the iPhone though, Google needs to up the hardware a level or 2.

As most know from my posts over the years, I hated iOS for so long, thought it was just so outdated and features and apps that needed modernizing and revisions, and they only get done at a snails pace if ever So I was not a fan of iOS. At. All.

I am a huge Nexus / Pixel fan, just love the smooth fluid feel, and how each year it's a different phone, different design, and always changing. But with that comes some ****** [H]ardware over the years, or using cheaper components, or not big enough batteries, and dim mid grade screens.

It's like Google could almost make an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy high end phone if they wanted, but they just never quite get there. And it's not rocket science what fans want; Smooth fluid UI ... Great battery life ... Bright clear display technology, to be as good or close to the 12 Pro or S21, doesn't even need to beat it or be better, but at least be as close as good. But lately it's a roll of the dice on what you'll get. And me as a big fan, get frustrated, and that's why Im on a 12 Pro Maxx right now, and actully find iOS 14 to be much imprived from earlier versions, and closer in feel to what I like. I still prefer stock Android, but iOS is slowly getting better.

I’m just curious, how are you finding the 60hz display compared to the 120 on your Samsung? Did you adjust easily?

My last Pixel devices were the Pixel 5 and 4 XL, both with 90h refresh rates. It's hard to compare to the 12 Pro Max's 60hz, they are two totally different OS"s, and just work so different, the iPhone feels generally smooth, but maybe slower if that makes sense, but not laggy at all though.

Scrolling up and down a website in Safari going up and down a million times, vs doing the same on the Pixel, is there a noticeable difference? I don't know maybe ever slightly, but barely, but not really. The iPhone is very smooth no hiccups.

I will say the stock Android experience on a Pixel, the overall UI the OS, does feel faster and easier to get around, this has nothing to do with refresh rates, I mean the OS, I find the Pixel phones are just a quicker UI to do things, which I do prefer over iOS.

I'll give my opinion for more information.

I have a 120hz Samsung and the 12 Pro Max, is there a difference, yes, Is it a sole reason to pick a phone, 100% no. Anyone that says they couldn't go back to anything less is just being overly dramatic.

I switch between the 2 and within a few minutes of being back on my iPhone I stop noticing the difference.

well said.....I switch between phones and the differences become invisible after a little use.

Yeah, I have a hard time telling the difference between my 120Hz Poco X3 with my 60Hz Galaxy A71 unless I really set them side by side and scrolling aggressively. When using each device on its own, higher refresh rate is not something that I cannot live with. In fact, sometimes my 7+ feels as smooth just because iOS animations are smoother than MiUI's.

Imo people think they need 120Hz because the youtubers are telling them so. On Android, setting animations to 0.5x via developer mode will make the device snappier. 120Hz or 60Hz won't matter if the UI animation duration itself is slow.

this works for me and works very well and only takes just clicking the share button

and this works for non YouTube premium as well

this works in the YouTube app and safari. Works on my iPad as well

basically Siri Shortcuts link and just click it each time
The problem I have is that after awhile the shortcuts stop working. It’s an extra step when when it does work because the video has to be opened in safari before you can get the pop up video.

I agree. I am moving from the ip11 to the note 10 lite. It's not a feature I care about actually. Right now, I want android customization, pen support, expandable storage and a better wide angle camera.

I can tell the difference now, scrolling is more jarring on 60hz.

I wouldn't go back, given a choice, or should I say, there would have to be a very enticing reason to go back to 60hz.

I could not tell the difference between my iphone 11 and a samsung galaxy s21 unless putting them side by side. It's not nearly that big a difference as the youtubers claim.
I tested by changing the hertz, day and night for me.

You must be overly sensitive or I under'ly (if that is a word) sensitive to it. I did not see the huge deal at all. I was changing the hertz on the samsung and did not see a remarkable difference. Gaming, sure. everyday use NOPE.

Yeah, I don't game on a phone so no opinion there.
My difference is in the UI and most noticeably, scrolling through text, it's so much better than 60hz.
When I read my phone, I like my text point small, this exaggerates any jankiness, that's where my difference is night and day, in my anecdotal opinion of course.
I'd go as far to say it's not perfect and I'd welcome much higher hz rates, personally.

Are you testing the difference on the same Android phone? Setting it to 60hz and scrolling up and down and then change setting to 120hz and doing the same, all on an Android phone not a iPhone?

Because 60hz on an iPhone feels significantly smoother than 60hz on Android. It's the way the OS works totally different and really can't compare the two
