Are you testing the difference on the same Android phone? Setting it to 60hz and scrolling up and down and then change setting to 120hz and doing the same, all on an Android phone not a iPhone?

Because 60hz on an iPhone feels significantly smoother than 60hz on Android. It's the way the OS works totally different and really can't compare them.
No I don't have an iphone, and yes, tested using an S21 ultra and my old Note 20.
Android 120hz vs 60hz iPhone looks very different too, from what I've seen on video.

If you have to slow something down to see and exaggerate the difference is it really that big a difference under normal conditions? No it's not.
It's due more to the fact that there's no 120fps playback on youtube, so if you look at the video at native youtube framerate, you'll see no difference, hence slowing it down so you can see the difference, plus the guy shot this at 30fps.

Most humans can see a difference up to 240hz, there's data out there suggesting some can process up to 1000hz, depending on their brain process.

Me? I can see a stark difference between 60hz and 120hz, and that video highlights the difference adequately.

You cannot tell me you can't see the difference on this video?

It's the resolution/ppi argument all over again though.

Of course I can see the difference in the video, I can even see the difference with my S21 and 12 Pro Max side by side but what does that matter? The 12 Pro Max is still incredibly smooth even if only 60hz.

What does 120hz bring to the table for the vast majority of mobile phone users?
Does it improve Texting, emailing, Facebook, Internet browsing etc? You get my point. Sure scrolling in feeds is nice and smooth but we generally don't read when we scroll.

It offers nothing to the general user other than increased battery usage. If you game on your phone then 120hz will suit you well, however, only a handful of people actually do this.

I am not the average user, and neither are most of us on here. So, for a test I asked my Mrs just now over breakfast her thoughts.

Could she notice a difference, yes. Did she think it was something important that would make any difference to her and how she used her phone, not in the slightest was her answer.

Scrolling or open and close apps is pretty much what I do with my phone and 120hz makes a huge difference for me. Scrolling or whatever you do you in 60hz just feels dated and choppy. That's just how my eyes work period. I guess some people will praise it when Apple jumps on the 120hz-train though, as it always seems to be.

It’ll likely be praised because it will be very good. An iPhone at 60hz feels much better than an android at 60hz so imagine 120 will be a similar story.

There's talk of the iPhone 13 pro max getting 240hz, that will be insanely smooth.

Like I said, I have had my iPhone next to a galaxy s21. And the screen on the Galaxy is more vibrant and nicer. But I see little difference in fluidity of the screens with the different refresh rates. both seem the same. Now, maybe I will see a difference when I get my Note 10 lite. Who knows. It's not something I will lose any sleep over, that's for sure.

It's because iPhone has 120hz touch input. But yeah I agree, iPhone feels much better than any 60hz android. But it doesn't keep up with the 120hz androids these days.

Welp, back to thinking this iPhone stuff once again. Mostly? Not sure what is going on but when a main app breaks after an update and basically loops even through a reboot because either the app is broke or something on the backend broke. Remember web view update that google pushed out a month or so ago and broke things? Well, thought it was fixed until tonight and same thing once again.

Was thinking about upgrading the ol s7 to the s21 ultra or note 20 ultra but now? I keep remembering all the botched Android devices, now updates.

The pro max 256gb was the same price as the s21 ultra and actually has more storage!

It almost seems for app developers Android is pretty much a second class afterthought.

I already got a couple android devices... Why another? ? I'm almost over rooting, to the point I just want things to work. Huh. At the same time however, why spend 1200 bucks for a device that just tracks you, serve you ads and for the most part only get phone calls from either work or spammers and online get served ads.

I almost miss dumb phones.

Sorry Tig, wasn't trying to clutter your thread, just once again found frustration with a device that almost at times makes me question why I don't try something else.?

Really? I think its noticeably worse compared to my S20 plus and now my S21 Ultra. However, I will say iOS transition animations are very smooth and polished. Apple are very clever with their animations and transitions. They make them purposely slow so that any hiccups in performance or in the OS are not noticeable. Its very well done.

That’s pretty funny.

Don't forget the 21 ultra has expandable storage so essentially you have 2tb of storage.

I actually thought sammy nixed expandable storage on these things? Maybe it was the lower tiers. I'm still undecided for an upgrade. I do know I'm interested in 5g and something that's going to last a bit

I think the s21 and plus does not have expandable, but the ultra still has it.

EDIT: just checked, they scrapped it on the ultra too.

I’m just going to piggyback on this thread rather than make a new one.

After a year with Android…I’ve gone back to iPhone with the iPhone 12 Pro. I have specific reasons for this which I’ll explain, but first I wanted to list a few things that I’m going to miss about Android and what I’m looking forward to with iPhone.

What I am going to miss about Android:

-Complete freedom. I’m not going to downplay this. This is a big one to give up and it is a risk. I am going from a phone and ecosystem where there is little keeping me from doing whatever I want on my phone. Playing games on native apps such as xCloud, for example. No side-loading apps that aren’t Apple approved. This is a huge advantage for Android users, no doubt.

-The Note stylus. I’ve really enjoyed the Stylus on my Note 20 Ultra. Love the fact that it integrates fully into the phone and it is great how I can use it as a remote for photos. Back to pen and paper at the grocery store, I guess. (yeah……I know there is an app for that. Not the same)

-Multitasking. Really is a useful feature. Watching YouTube and web browsing at the same time is pretty nice.

-The little things. Media player integration into google maps. The tiny selfie camera hole. 120hz display.

What I’m looking forward to getting back to.

-FaceID. I relied on pattern swiping and fingerprint on my Note 20 as I just didn’t trust the face recognition. Glad I’m getting this back on iPhone. Opening secure apps is so much easier now.

-The Ecosystem. What I give up in freedom, I gain in functionality between devices. I’m moving back to MacBook as my primary computer. The integration between iPhone and Mac has no equal, imo. I found Samsung’s integration with Windows to be very lacking and most of the time it just didn’t work at all for me. Now I can take calls and text on MacBook and it just works.

-Apple Watch. Samsung Galaxy Watch3 is not bad. It is actually really good. But it just doesn’t compare to Apple Watch, sadly. I will miss the rotating bezel versus the knob on the side though.

Why switch back? Truth is I’m not leaving Android completely. I moved back to the Apple ecosystem primarily for professional reasons as a developer with smart phone apps as a focus. That includes Android apps so while I am going to sell my Samsung Note 20 Ultra, I also have a Pixel 2 that I am going to keep for testing. I’m also not leaving Windows. I gotta have my PC gaming rig and I’m still doing development on tech that requires a Windows machine as well. I’ve just decided to embrace all these platforms as they all have their own advantages.

I'm almost for sure getting the Pixel 6 Pro, but only if there's an XL larger size like the Max. I'm happy to hear Google will go high end flagship again.

If there's Pixel 6 XL I'm definitely getting that.

I do like this iPhone 12 Pro Max, it's a very nice smartphone. But I'm still a stock Abdroid nerd at heart. iOS is just not my cup of tea, but it has gotten much better over the years. But I like vanilla Android best.

Since Android 12 has the beta out I installed it on my Pixel 4 XL last night and played around with it.

It sure felt smooth and super fast, zero performance issues whatsoever.

But the new look is something different, not a huge fan with everything being larger now, like the clock on AoD and settings stuff. But maybe they can be tweaked later.

Overall Android 12 seems like a nice update but didn't look radically different then 11 besides those few things. It was fun playing with the Pixel 4 XL again and being on stock Android.

But then went back to my iPhone 12 Pro Max and I have to say it just is such a massive difference in comparison in they the 12 Pro Max feels light years ahead of the 4 XL.

The screen the brightness and clarity of the display on the 12 Pro feels like a decade apart in technology almost.

The dark mode on the iPhone is truly inky black and looks so darn good. The dark mode on the Pixel is like a gray color.

Vibration motor and haptics are all over the iPhone compared to just a bit on the Pixel.

Ad Blockers work really well on iPhone if you actually purchase a good one. On Android they still seem so so.

Don't know if I have a point here really? LOL I guess I'm surprised I'm liking this iPhone more then expected even after playing with Android 12 all night on my fav Pixel. I love stock Android but maybe it's the hardware? The iPhone 12 Pro Max phone itself the actual build quality and screen tech and speakers and haptic vibration engine and dark mode etc...all create an amazing experience even if I'm not a huge iOS fan.

Now I am very interested to see iOS 15 beta next month.

Yeah. I think I like this 12 Pro Max is because the hardware is AMAZING. Screen. Battery life. Haptics. Speakers. Dark mode with the inky blacks. The flat display with no stupid curved edges.

This hardware package is just the best of any smartphone I've owned.

But iOS. I like it, don't love it.

But the funny thing is. At the end of the day I used my smartphone to make phone calls, text people, surf the internet, emails, use GPS Navigation, check weather, get sports scores, etc...

And both iPhone and Android do it so similar today and very good on both platforms, there's really not as much difference as there was years ago, besides customization on Android being light years ahead. Other than that for your typical daily smartphone use both OS's do it great.

And if the iPhone 13 Pro rumors are true, it'll be really good. With the 120hz Pro Motion Display and supposedly smaller notch by 1/3rd, and potentially thumbprint scanner in power button.

And iOS 15 rumored to add a Always on Display type feature and revised better Widgets and new Control Center and updated better Notifications.

All of this might keep me with the iPhone awhile.
