It will be bought for the new design as we have been awaiting a design change since 2014 Anyone who wanted an iPhone 7 has already gotten one by now and doesn’t need an 8 and those on the 6s will also consider the 7 because the 8 is nothing but a spec bumped 7 with true tone and wireless charging but priced for more than what those features are worth. Conclusion being that the remaining 6s,6and 7 owners will be going for the X

As some member on this forum posted the iPhone X launch is equivalent to the Hunger Games with the iPhone X in the middle and both teams on either side rushing in for the prize. The fact that the iPhone 8 preorder day is so calm is an indication of how bad the iPhone X day is going to be. If you don’t get your order in on 27th might as well wait for the next Keynote.
I’m going for the 8+, 2aw, 2 Air pods and Apple TV. The 8 is a substantial upgrade from the 7 let alone the 6s.

8 Plus from the 7 May be a substantial upgrade. 8 Plus from the 7 Plus is a minor upgrade with nothing on offer. I have experienced TrueTone on my iPad and it’s equivalent is to set night shift on and put the intensity slider to the extreme left. Tried comparing both and they now look the same

as far as Potraight Lighting is concerned I think potrait mode gets the job done. I am not paying $100 more for wireless charging and fast charging coz I might as well get the 64GB X at that price. And that’s it for the 8 Plus “upgrade” which is even more of a yawn fest than the 6s was for 6 owners

I have my phone on me all the time so the AW3 is not an upgrade for me. I use it only for fitness and notifications my Gen 0 Watch does that beautifully.

I use NVIDIA Shield for streaming from my PC GPU so i don’t need Apple’s TV

Not interested in AirPods as the sound quality is crap compared to my wired headphones and I don’t like wireless headphones.

Judging by how the 8 Plus dates haven’t changed much i am betting everyone is waiting for the X
[doublepost=1505569969][/doublepost]And why upgrade to the 8 Plus from the 7? Just get a 7 Plus as it’s essentially the same thing.

When I said 7 it included the 7+ as well. No doubt people are waiting for the X, but this is the first time apple has had such an extensive lineup to cater to peoples budgets and differing tech needs and wants. The 8+, AW, airpods and TV (and new ipad 10.5 prod) will be a great upgrade for me now and will satisfy my craving for new tech. I can wait a year for the iphone xi or even buy one earlier if I see certain things are NOT happening and apple has somehow fixed the issues with pink screen and burn-in.

There is nothing on upgrade for me and I suspect for a lot of customers as the dates still haven’t slipped as they did last year. If I was offered a choice between a slightly scratched 8 Plus and a pristine 7 Plus i would still get the latter. That’s how boring it is.

And pray tell what upgrade I am getting from the 7 Plus?

I am still undecided on the X personally and at this point don’t know what to buy. If I get the Pixel or Note, my AW wont work and I lose the ecosystem.

If I do get the X, I have to spend over $1000 and hope that FaceID works and the display is at least as good as an S7 Edge. I also find the Note a more beautiful device personally but it results in me compromising the integration

As I already told you above neither the AirPods or the TV interest me as I possess superior alternatives imo and my AW is only used for fitness in respect of which there is nothing new

Its an individual preference as to why people upgrade. I know I'm getting more functionality that make it worth it for me.

As far as looks were mentioned: as far as the notch, my complaint was that the iphone x would be a generic slab. Love it or hate it, at least its not a generic slab with the notch.

This sounds just as silly as the iPhone cases with the logo cutout.I don’t want to announce to random people that I own an iPhone

That notch interferes with the content and draws attention to it. I would rather have a bland slab which doesn’t obstruct my enjoyment of the phone than a notch whose sole purpose is to tell others I own an iPhone.

Apple could drill a hole in the middle of the screen and get you would be jumping for joy yelling “Hey look now we can identify an iPhone amongst the sea of other phones”

What’s actually funny is that if Samsung has done something like this, you would have crucified them and brought up the iPhone “symmetry”. It’s not even an original idea as the Essential phone has also done this. The hypocrisy is real.
[doublepost=1505571468][/doublepost]At the end of the day i have to tolerate that notch but that doesn’t mean i have to like it.

Well now you're in a pickle. If you are carrying a big phone without a notch, people will automatically know it's a note 8. No notch = Samsung, notch = iphone. I don't mind people knowing I have an iphone, using my 6s or 7 on the street it's quite easy to discern the model.

Only apple could get away with removing the headphone jack and putting a notch in the screen and people still line up and throw they're money at the company. Capitalism is great.

It’s not even an original idea as the Essential phone has also done this. The hypocrisy is real.
Do you also believe car manufacturers have all copied one another with push button ignition, led headlights, etc? And please do point out the hypocrisy.

Nope. It could be LG V30 or a Google Pixel as that’s rumoured to have the bezelless design as well.

No notch = Samsung, notch = iphone.

The hypocrisy is that Samsung was being mocked for lack of symmetry they were called out for it and made fun of. Apple does it and now we have people saying “ Oh but the lack of symmetry helps us recognise its an iPhone. Enjoyment of the phone be damned. PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW I AM USING A $1300 SMARTPHONE. ITS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THEY KNOW coz that’s why’s i am tolerating the notch.

Let’s jack up the price to $2000 and add notches to the sides and bottom so it’s further personified. Make it happen Tim

Can you name a few? Maybe like wireless charging where they demonstrated charging more than one device at a time. Insinuating only their charger (that is not yet available) can do that. But Qi enabled wireless chargers with this ability has been for sale for years..... Or super retina display the was made by Samsung and probably not upto the Note 8 display also made by Samsung.

I'm guessing we're going to open up AirPower and just find multiple coils.

Interesting. I haven't pre-ordered an iPhone since the iPhone 5, and that particular phone I pre-ordered through Verizon (back when contracts existed!). That said, I don't know what's normal and what's not. I just assumed that you could get iPhones unlocked on day one.

If the iPhone 8 is available carrier-free, I ponder if the X will be available in the same way on preorder day? At this very moment, you are required to choose a carrier for the iPhone X (even though pre-orders aren't allowed yet).

If you read the FAQ's at the bottom of the preorder page, it appears that all iPhones come unlocked, even if purchased through a carrier; save for this clause: "Your iPhone will only be tied to your carrier if you choose carrier financing from AT&T or Sprint."

Would someone explain to me why you must choose a carrier option, then? Like what is the benefit/deal between Apple and these carriers?

If I had to bet I'd say that an unlocked iPhone X would be available on launch day. If not the Verizon iPhones come unlocked due to an FCC spectrum requirement so that would work too.
I'm not sure the advantage of a carrier model over unlocked as I've always gotten an unlocked model since the iPhone 5.
Also the statement you quoted about an iPhone being tied to at&t only if it's on a carrier financing plan isn't entirely true. All phones sold on at&t are locked.

Correct. However the reason is pretty simple: iOS. Millions love it, and with good reason.

It’s the only OS which works with a competent smart watch and a tablet. Windows has excellent tablets but no phones. Android has excellent phones but no tablets. Both lack a fitness tracker. Apple has all of these which is why a premium is charged although it’s through the roof at the moment

Leave it to apple to turn a negative into a positive design element that makes it instantly recognizable as an iphone and differentiates the phone from those like look like slabs.

Incorrect. Samsung had bad symmetry and engineering of the symmetry. The hypocrisy is they weren't called out for it, but apple is called out for an ingenious design element.

Oh, and I'm sure people will enjoy their iphone x, in spite of your prognostications.

This. I’d add also TV, as the current Apple TV is more useful than Android TV in its current form.

No but in all seriousness... lol, oops slipped out... I do find the design to be good in terms of saving space by incorporating the status bar. But not blacking out the rest of the ears is TERRIBLE, just horrid and atrocious design. Even the most loyal of Apple fansites are reaming Apple on this poor design decision.

I can say with complete certainty youve never been ripped off by Apple in your life.
Actually I think their phones were decently priced till now. Even their tablets.$1000 for 64GB is on another level altogether. It doesn't even include fast charger or wireless charging at that price. Add in the screen protector,a good case and a travel pouch and you end up at $1100 easily. This is one heck of an expensive phone. I don't think Apple has released such an overpriced product till now with the exception of some of their Watches. The original iPhone also released under some estimates at that time

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
Sorry if you were offended by my critique but what you have posted is full of contradictions.

1. If everyone has the right to moan, that includes me moaning about moaners
2. Stop your "attacks" ? Ok less of the dramatic definitions. My post was hardly an attack but criticism. Maybe it was I that actually touched a nerve.
3. Oh wait I'm not supposed to criticise even though you claim we have "freedom of speech" on the Internet ? How does that work, is it only freedom of speech if what is written is what you want to hear ?
4. As for Apple's tax arrangements, are you implying that because I am in Ireland that I or we Irish in general are complicit because you clearly then do not have any real understanding of the mass opinion of the general populace here who think Apple should be accountable and the $15b in taxes should be paid to the revenue. That $15b owed is owed to Ireland remember, which is what the EU commission stated when laying out its case and most of the populace would agree. But even with that in mind, how would Apple paying it's tax change the UK prices of its products ? It doesn't. It has absolutely no bearing one way or the other.

Actually the issue the EU had was Ireland receiving stated aid whilst letting Apple having an unfair advantage over the competition. And I stated it must have touched a nerve with you considering your 'criticism'.
Sure you can criticise, everyone is entitled to their opinions, all you need do is perhaps not read the ones you don't agree with? As I don't live anywhere else their I don't really care of Apples pricing in other country's. I don't appreciate their made up excuses either. That's my opinion.

Well, if you calculate price per properly supported (i.e. gets software and security updates) year, even with their current prices iPhones can actually be cheaper than many Android counterparts.

Yes but Android phones get desperate security updates for apps now don't they. Apple just tends to do them in one big go.
