Dont the reviews come after preorder date? If so, there is no point waiting for reviews. If this phone isn't ordered at 3AM EST on the 27th you are waiting months for availability and you might as well wait for the next release as Kuo is saying its going to be early 2018 till demand supply balances for this phone.

Seriously. And even then odds are good a ton of folks ordering won't get the Nov 3rd delivery date. Shipping will probably drop to 3-4 weeks within minutes after going on sale.

If I order I'm setting my own expectations for December delivery.

Very interesting about sweat might be the reason FaceID failed the first time. He even knows exactly what to do to make it work by wiping the sweat away.....

Would be funny if this was a limitation. Touch ID is pure junk if my fingers are a little sweaty, I was hoping face ID would be the solution for this.

Yeah, but then you can sell it for 2k and walk away happy. No I'm not kidding, look at what other in demand iphones have sold for after they were sold out. Plus now there are no more scalpers since Apple limits order quantity. I honestly think this is the most important update they have ever done on the iPhone, demand will be off the charts.

yeah...I am at the gym 5 days a week and use my phone while working out. A sweaty face is a given at that point.I use the stopwatch to limit time between sets to 30 seconds as well as messages and app notifications. Would be a bummer if I have to wipe my face to use FaceID. Wonder how it works with women and makeup?
I guess we will find out in November. But until that time we can speculate ;-)

We will find out but I'm guessing Apple didn't replace Touch ID with something less usable. This is tied into using Apple Pay, which is slowly gaining traction. They're not going to screw up that progress.

Seems the shipping dates on the 8 and 8 Plus haven't slipped all that much. As I thought not many care about the 8 or 8 Plus. Everyone is waiting for the X coz that's the real upgrade

They've sacrificed Touch ID and included a distracting and unsightly notch in the display, all for Face ID. I have a feeling it's going to work well, and better than the competition. I'm sure we'll also see tweaks and improvements as Apple rolls out updates for bug fixes and whatnot.

I want Face ID to do well. I want to see the competition, like Samsung, be challenged in as many areas as they can be. Face ID is the only thing that can leapfrog and challenge what they already have.

See, I don't agree that's why they did it. I think the notch is mostly about marketing. They could have included all those cameras in a barely-there bezel instead, but then the front of their phone would look like the front of just about everyone else's phone.

The above isn't praise or a criticism. I'm currently agnostic about the notch.

I agree with you. Yes, indeed. Like I said in this post many pages ago where I predicted the notch will make the iPhone X iconic:

As much as you hate the notch, you can't deny, it makes the iPhone X silhouette recognizable and easily identifiable as an Apple iPhone. I think that was part of their goal. And it's going to succeed. It will become iconic.

I think it's already working and on its way. Everybody is talking about the notch -- doesn't matter if they're good or bad comments.

Personally, I find it distracting and unsightly, and more than anything, I find it baffling for games and full screen video/content. But I wholly agree it was a design compromise and decision made intentionally.

And in typical fashion, I predict Apple fans will quickly do an about-face to get over the lack of symmetry from the notch. Apple fans will, in fact, learn to accept many things that were deemed unacceptable or "gimmicky" before: edge-to-edge screens, OLED technology, glass-backs, wireless charging (<-- big one!). And Apple will still have their iconic next-gen smartphone.

I don't know that many Apple fans care about a lack of symmetry. Only the online guys like Gruber, and he's been consistent, stating he hates the notch. Honestly, most of the comments I've seen about wireless charging are along the lines of "Not a necessity" which I agree with. I've said repeatedly I think it's neat but not a huge value add.

In landscape, I'm not liking what I've seen thus far with the notch but I'm willing to give it a shot.

I don't think many could have predicted that Apple of all companies could release a phone with a notch which obstructs the content and serves no purpose other than to scream "Hey look at me. I am an iPhone"

It doesn't really look that good in daily use but I guess we could get used to it

Do you folks browse websites in landscape mode? Just curious.

I never do.

Actually? All the time. In fact, I do quite a bit with my phone in landscape. Even my giant Note 8. So I'm a bit wary of how the X is going to perform in that regard.
[doublepost=1505505240][/doublepost]Wow. Just went to Apple's site and you can still order variations of the 8 for delivery or pick up next Friday. I cannot remember a time when a new iPhone was available on release day this late in the first day of pre-orders.

Speaking of which, I really wish I didn't need the latest from a given company. The 8 is so much better suited to how I currently use a phone. Yet...gotta have the X if i'm doing an iPhone this year.

Really? Wow. I do browse sites in portrait but landscape is soooo much better for that.
Most of the web services / sites I frequent (shopping, bank, parcel tracking, forums etc..) generally have an app which is better suited for mobile anyway, so my web browser is used only when doing quick searches and such.

However it does seem to me ... Some of those here who seemingly are most vocal on this notchgate or pricegate are clearly the least interested in the device but seemingly have to keep up the cherade that they were or are buying an X so they can justify the persistent bitching and negativity, rather than just move on. It's simple, if you do not like it, don't buy it, Apple are not forcing you to do so, stop the pretence (credit the readers of the forum with some intelligence), move on and buy something you do like and for the love of God shut up whining about it ...

Why do some people spend so much time obsessively hating on something repeatedly on forums like this rather than simply just finding something they do like instead and spend their time enjoying that ?

As they sang in Frozen ... "Let it go" ....

Wow. I want to like this post x1000.

On browsing websites: funny, I pretty much use my phone as my main browser at home. The screens are so big now my iPad has been reduced to a Netflix machine for travel, and my laptop is...always in the other room being used by my wife.

I noticed Apple is allowing purchases of unlocked models right away for the iPhone 8. I think this is the first time they've done it this early, right (usually it's about three weeks to a month before unlocked is avail?)? Something Samsung did, too, earlier this year for the S8.

I thought they always had sim-free unlocked models for sale from the outset if you are buying outright from the Apple store.

Here in Europe that's the case anyway.

I think in the US, it takes about 3-4 weeks before they're available. This is the first time I'm seeing unlocked iPhones on pre-order day.

That's sweet for Europe!

You do realise this is a forum for discussion and that discussion involves the exchange of (often differing) views.

You live in Ireland, you should be quite aware of the dangers of censoring the begrudgers and those who spend their time cribbing and moaning!

Negative opinions are Just as important (If not more so in tech) as positive ones

And yea, the monobrow is monstrous lol

Here in Europe that's the case anyway.

In Finland it applies to phones bought from carrier stores as well. It would actually cause quite a sh*tstorm from customers if a carrier tried to resume locking. Mobile phones started unlocked here and locking occurred only for maybe 3-4 years when bundling of phones and subscriptions was first allowed. Pretty much everyone hated the short-lived carrier locking and I guess in the end it wasn't beneficial even to carriers as they would quickly receive a "you'd better unlock the effin' phone or else" letter from the consumer protection authorities if they tried to pull any unreasonable stunts to enforce the lock-in.

Really? I didn't see unlocked iPhone 8/8 Pluses on their site. I'm only curious as thi was looking for an unlocked model.

Nevermind I just looked again. That wasn't on there this morning when I checked.
