It’s
I think the iPhone 8 models are a terrific upgrade from the 7. It really is the best iteration of that generation's iPhone. The final form, if you will.

It's been perfected from years of refinement. It's fully sealed from dust and water, the home button isn't physical anymore, has stereo-speakers, beautiful sturdier glass-back making a return, offering more features like serious camera upgrades and wireless charging...

They're going to be fantastic all-around, capable smartphone options in the market.
are you talking of the iPhone X? Because apart from wireless charging the 7 has all the features of the 8. The camera upgrades seem minor based on what Apple announced. THe second lens doesn’t even get OIS.

If there’s one thing I am adamant on I am not buying that design in 2017 when Samsung is churning out mid range A series phones with bezelless displays

That is not the point of the iphone. The point of the iphone is that it it the absolute pinnacle of mobile phone tech.
I also see you are buying into the techno babble.

It isn't fully sealed from dust and water. Nothing is.
I've no idea what "microscopic level resistance means, except that as a term it works because the common man thinks its now waterproof and dust proof when it isn't. The iphone 8 is IP67. The industry has moved on to IP68 some time ago.

home buttons are a thing of the past. As proved by Samsung earlier with the S8 and Apple now with the X

Stereo speakers have been a thing since the M7

Sturdier? glass back? Is this like the ion-enhanced nonsense on the front screen? Is this the same glass which Iphone fans were poo-pooing since the Iphone 5?

Wireless charging? This is the same wireless charging which Apple and its users declared a useless gimmick (remember Phil's? comment that "It still needs wires"

Serious camera upgrades? Like a mish-mash of OIS?

Then there is the design which is seriously outdated. Huge bezels and chins and a ridiculous screen-body ratio

It STILL doesn't have an OLED screen, despite the fact apple have put one in the X

The Iphone 8 is an utter mess. Not unly is it NOT apples best phone, its not the industries best phone. It has been superseded before it has been released.

I look at my wife's 6 and really do wonder why you would bother updating because the vast, vast majority of people just phone, text, email and surf on the damn things. they don't use them anywhere near their capacity.

I won't pretend to like apple anymore, but the 8 and the x really disappoint me. The Iphone 8 should not exist. It should be the X only. and at the $700 price point as well.

I don't think the iPhone can be called the Pinnacle of mobile tech anymore. They have been surpassed. Even the iPhone X.

I think it will become popular. The gold glass looks fantastic.

Apple had no choice in releasing the 8. They can’t make enough OLED screens and are at the mercy of Samsung since they are the only supplier. Next year I expect no home button iPhones when stock can be made available.

Maybe LG or someone can start to make screens.

No it's not the same. Can you charge multiple android devices on a single wireless pad? If not, it isn't the same wireless charging that is on the iphone x and iphone 8.

Now what you feel about the utility of wireless charging is another matter.

Hey, I recall seeing on a video somewhere that the iPhone X won't support split screen email panes as the 7 Plus currently does. Am I losing my mind or does anyone else confirm seeing this somewhere as well?

That's correct it wont. It was a tweet by some developer. I remember it as well. It will be like the 7 in that it wont support multi tabs in land scape or even in settings.

Read the whole article. Didn't find anything unique about what Apple did apart from spillover effects. Its the exact same tech Android has had for years on end and which Apple ridiculed

https://www.imore.com/apple-senior-...hy-there-no-nfc-or-wireless-charging-iphone-5

Schiller noted that the wireless charging systems still have to be plugged into the wall, so it’s not clear how much convenience they add. The widely-adopted USB cord, meanwhile, can charge in wall outlets, computers and even on airplanes, he said. “Having to create another device you have to plug into the wall is actually, for most situations, more complicated,” Schiller said.

His response to NFC makes some sense as he didn't really dismiss it.

Tim Cook recently said that you cant be afraid to change your mind, so its not surprising.

Sigh Apple. So much gets gimped when they launch a new device.
Get ready for the Plus sized version next year. Most likely 6.2 inches.

Didn’t CF say they petitioned the group for a change/update in the Standards? At any rate whether it’s this or something else, when Apple gets behind something the world tends to change.

The bigger point of that article is what happens when Apple gets behind something.

exactly and apple apologists are the worst at it. Even when proven completely wrong in this thread the apologist tries to spin it around.

I have to be honest i think note 8 is the best phone on the market and better than the iphone x but apple is the ecosystem and thats why I'm getting the iphone x. Price wise so far are a joke.

On EE it says price wise starting from £82.99 a month with 100GB of data..i mean seriously? I hate to imagine what the 256GB will be.

That said the x is an amazing phone and will be great to have but the OS is a big reason for me getting it.

I do hate to imagine what the price is next year if they do a 6 inch display.

Its too early to really know for sure until we try it out. Ill wait for the reviews to see how it goes.

I think we already know though. It's 2 steps, scan face then swipe up. Even if the face ID is lightning fast, it's still going to get annoying to always have to swipe up every single time the phone is powered on.
[doublepost=1505487023][/doublepost]
You know who has tiny bezels and no notch? Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8.
[doublepost=1505405955][/doublepost]

In fairness, Samsung at least goes edge to edge in one direction. The iPhone X just has a bezel on all sides.

Still a lie, but slightly less of a lie.

Samsung has no notch because they blacked out the sides where the notch would be. Apple incorporated the sides for the status bar, which saves screen space. Although it looks like Apple's top bezel is wider than Samsung's.

Also Samsung's DO have bezels, not much thinner than the X or even my 7+. It's just that the bezels are at the end of the curved edges so are somewhat hidden, but you can still see them looking down at the phone.
[doublepost=1505487162][/doublepost]
I think that may be a part of it. Can you identify these brands just by the shape of their bezels?
Found this in the verge forums.
feb525aabdf5b4ac83f645ffadffe08e.jpg

This is disingenuous at best IMO (not your post, just the pic). The S8/N8 or whatever is pictured on the left DOES have side bezels. I'm not sure why they are being touted as no bezels when you can clearly see them if you turn the phone, although they are slightly hidden when looking down at the phone.

.

We don't know yet if the option to unlock directly to home screen is there in accessibility just like it is for Touch iD

Pretty sure there will be a setting so it unlocks without the swipe. Touch ID was demoed the same way in IOS 10, but had the option to "rest finger" to unlock.

If the price structure remains the same then it will be $1000 5.8" $1100 6.2". Not drastic, especially since most people will just pay monthly.
This price thing is getting overblown IMO. This thing will sell the hell out.

I think Apple will hike the price by $200 and make a complete curved edge 6.4 OLED along with 256Gb and 512Gb options next year to compete with Note 10 and S10. They have gone ******* crazy with the pricing lately what with the $50 hike on all iPad Pros and removal of all storage options except for 64 and 256.

The smaller variant is always given second class treatment in Apple’s lineup and so will the 5.8 oPhone. Expect ProMotion,Apple Pencil support, a complete curved edge OLED and 4GB RAm on the 6.2 variant.

[doublepost=1505488941][/doublepost]I played around with a Note 8 this morning and realized how much I will miss the physical home button on my iPhone. I've never minded a very small bezel at the bottom with a physical home button. Samsungs implementation seemed half baked, I found it difficult to find the right location and right pressure to trigger it consistently, although I'm sure that improves with muscle memory.

I predict the prices of 2018 iPhone flagships -- basically the sequels to the iPhone X -- will be more readily available, will be available in two sizes (a Plus model), and will be more affordable than the current price of the single iPhone X model.

We all know Apple charges a particularly high premium for first generation new technology. Then the subsequent generations' prices come down to something a tiny bit more manageable.

Just checking, you're aware you can tap the Note 8 home button without applying pressure, right? The pressure sensitive home button is only there for when the home button icon isn't lit up, like when you're in full screen games/videos, etc., or when the device is sleeping.
