I was thinking of giving the samsung galaxy n8 a go. tried out one at best buy, the screen on that phone is very beautiful and vibrant. but just by playing around with it i can tell its going be a learning curve for sure. i have been using the iPhone since the 3g, i have never used anything thing else. I am deeply routed into the apple eco system and thats all i know. So at the moment i am very nervous about going for the note 8 don't know if will like android as mush as i do iOS heard a lot of horror stories about android. i will maybe give the iPhone x a try.
my iphone 7 plus was stolen a few weeks ago so i am without a phone at the the moment. I looked at the iPhone 8 but even though it has upgraded internals, to me it still looks like the iphone 7 only with glass. and i really wanted the 10th anniversary iPhone to begin with.
So even though i am a bit disappoint about the removal of the home button and that notch at the top, i am still thinking of getting it.

I thought Apple doesn't "half-a**" features when they finally do it, so why aren't the new iPhones supplied with a charger that gets you fast charging? You have to buy a higher watt charger to have this feature.

It's stuff like this that grinds my gears with Apple. Especially when they're supposed to do things "right" even after a long wait for them to add the feature. At these premium prices, it feels petty they can't even supply you with the proper charger in box.

Is it fear of some potential battery debacle, maybe?

X isn't as tall as the Plus, so perhaps it's not necessary.

The Note 8 has a simple and clever way of shrinking the screen for situations where you can only use one hand.

I wonder what Apple will come up with when they introduce the Plus variant of the iPhone X. How will they do Reachability again...

Swipe down on the home bar?

I thought a "retina" display was better than you could see so further improvements in resolution are pointless?

Specs basically aren't necessary or don't matter until Apple does it.

In the rare cases where Apple future proofs, then it's great. Even if there aren't any real world gains yet, like when they had the 64-bit processor that didn't really affect anything the first year or two it was introduced. But if others should future proof, then they're hopelessly chasing specs or trying to make up for some perceived shortcoming by throwing extra hardware at it.

Apple plays with different rules.

Swipe down on the home bar?

Good idea.

Will there be room enough to swipe down? Enough to register? The home bar is pretty much the lowest it can be on the screen, isn't it?

Well, sorry but those were the words from an American we have at work currently who is temporarily living here. And I have not made that up, so unless she is unique in her thinking, because she said others thought so too, then it is something 'some' Americans believe?
Nothing smug about it.
So I will apologise for any offence caused, but these were the words of an American.
That doesn't excuse using a tragedy to make a point on a phone forum. Stupid people say a lot of things....doesn't mean we have to repeat them.....

Isn't 19.5:9 narrower (not wider) than 18.5:9. If the X is 19.5:9 then it's much narrower than I thought. Or are they applying the wider term when held in landscape?

It's also interesting in that article that if you exclude the notch area the X only has a 5.56" screen, same size as the 7+ but IMO smaller because of the taller form factor, so really a step DOWN in aspect ratio.

I thought so too, but that's what I found.

19.5:9 means it has more height versus width than 18.5:9, making that aspect ratio narrower, not wider, in portrait mode. I've only seen this measured in portrait mode. Anyone else? I'm confused.

If I'm not mistaken, because the iPhone X is only marginally wider than the iPhone 8, videos and photos viewed on the iPhone X at their native resolution (i.e. - not zoomed in) will be only slightly larger than they are on the iPhone 8. If I am wrong, would someone please let me know.

Follow this link to see the size different between the iPhone X and the standard iPhone 8 (not the Plus model):

And you also need to exclude the space housing the Home-Button-Bar-Thing at the bottom of the screen as well IMO.

So I think you're getting about the same usable space VERTICALLY (if held in portrait mode) as the iPhone 8 Plus, but not the same usable space HORIZONTALLY as the iPhone 8 Plus. That means that photos on Instagram, posts on Facebook, and webpages are not much larger than what you'd see with the iPhone 8. It's just that you'll be able to see more content from top to bottom. This isn't unlike when Apple released the iPhone 5, which was only taller than the iPhone 4S.

It's £89 for the charger too! No they just see a way of making more money.

Yes that's what Ming Chi Quo was saying for a while. He said that although the X has a 5.8 inch screen because of the aspect ratio it will in fact be smaller than the current 7 plus screen. Anyhow now that I have the note 8 which despite its aspect ratio is clearly bigger than my 7 plus is terms of real estate I don't think I can use anything as small as the X. I said as much before the reveal that the X would be a downgrade in terms of screen size.
