If I'm not mistaken, because the iPhone X is only marginally wider than the iPhone 8, videos and photos viewed on the iPhone X at their native resolution (i.e. - not zoomed in) will be only slightly larger than they are on the iPhone 8. If I am wrong, would someone please let me know.

Follow this link to see the size different between the iPhone X and the standard iPhone 8 (not the Plus model):

And you also need to exclude the space housing the Home-Button-Bar-Thing at the bottom of the screen as well IMO.

So I think you're getting about the same usable space VERTICALLY (if held in portrait mode) as the iPhone 8 Plus, but not the same usable space HORIZONTALLY as the iPhone 8 Plus. That means that photos on Instagram, posts on Facebook, and webpages are not much larger than what you'd see with the iPhone 8. It's just that you'll be able to see more content from top to bottom. This isn't unlike when Apple released the iPhone 5, which was only taller than the iPhone 4S.

The bottom line on the X vs the 8 Plus is you really are just paying for a different form factor. I'm sure Face ID will be neat but I don't think it necessarily represents a bigger value add than Touch ID. That could all change depending on what developers do with the feature. The OLED display will be nice but Apple does a tremendous job with their LCD screens, so again I'm not sure how big of a jump it will be.

It's £89 for the charger too! No they just see a way of making more money.

Yes that's what Ming Chi Quo was saying for a while. He said that although the X has a 5.8 inch screen because of the aspect ratio it will in fact be smaller than the current 7 plus screen. Anyhow now that I have the note 8 which despite its aspect ratio is clearly bigger than my 7 plus is terms of real estate I don't think I can use anything as small as the X. I said as much before the reveal that the X would be a downgrade in terms of screen size.

Yes it seems like the iPhone X's screen is MORE of a downgrade than I thought. It's aspect ratio at 19.5:9 is narrower than the Note 8 and other bezel less phones released this year, any narrowing of screens like this is a downgrade in my book. I've yet to see one in person, but in pictures and video it doesn't look that narrow. But I'm assuming it's because the curved edges of the N8/S8 make it look narrower than it is because there is nothing there. Looking at the v30 it also doesn't look that narrow, even though it is 18:9.

The more I read, the more I think I might just go with an 8 Plus. I'm fairly certain Face ID will be terrific and work with everything Touch ID does, but there will probably be a ton of websites that wont' be updated at launch. I'm mostly agnostic on the notch but I lean towards not liking it. In landscape, if you get rid of it, there is no advantage over an 8 Plus. Oled will be nice, but I think iPhone screens are excellent (yeah, my Note 8 kinds puts the 7 Plus to shame but good isn't the enemy of perfect.) Add to all of this I just don't know if I feel like participating in the hysteria of the X upon launch. Might be best to revisit the whole thing this spring once the hoopla dies down and any bugs are ironed out.

Wow. I'm actually considering being practical in a smartphone purchase!

For me it is going to be the actual physical size of the phone. It might just be too small for my hands.

The iPhone 8 models are the best iterations of that generation's iPhone, their final form, if you will. They will not be bad purchases.

Apple will 99% chance release a plus version of the X next year. The X right now is a big beta test, 1st gen product. Stay away.
I wonder if they will at this point. If it’s so supply constrained that supply will only meet demand by first half of 2018 how will they manage to release yet another model on top of it?

I would think by next year they will have at least got another supplier like LG to split the load with Samsung.
[doublepost=1505756313][/doublepost]On a separate topic, is there an app on Android that combines messaging platforms? For example I would like to have Facebook messenger, Viber and regular SMS in one app.

They'll find other vendors to help with components. They're working feverishly to find other screen manufacturers. They're supposedly investing in LG's own OLED production line just to give them a jump on infrastructure.

I won't go so far as to argue people should stay away, but I think there's a lot of truth in your sentiment. Apple's own history with new form factors in this arena isn't spotless. I think the biggest growing pains will be moving around that OS without a home button and Face ID integration.

Or maybe they have it all figured out and the phone will be phenomenal from day one.

I'm waiting for the LGV30 + Pixel 2 to come out before swapping. Not interested in the S8 as i've seen quite a few video's mentioning how it can lag due to all the features it has. Not a fan either of the finger scanner which is a massive turn off. Really hoping the LGV30 is priced sub £700 / has a good deal around Xmas.

I tried andriod last year with the Honor 8 and was not a fan of the UI and had some bonkers compatibility with some of apps, especially with notifications. Got rid of it after a month and settled with the iPhone 7. Currently have the 2016 Samsung A5 through work, and while it is slow and choppy, its actually decent. Currently using it as my daily driver to see if I can do Android and learn what apps can replace IOS.

Can anybody recommend any note app that can sync on Mac and Andriod? I think I have everything else covered so far :)

Yes maybe not stay away, but be aware.

Heck, I may do a 180 and buy it if I really like it at the store. Issue for me right now is screen size being bigger but not actually having more space for video compared to the 7/8 Plus

Which is why I think I will wait for the iPhone X Plus version next year.

I don't think that will help them all that much in just a year. LG is not on the same scale as Samsung so it may not do much good. By 2019/20 I am sure a Plus model is coming though considering Samsung themselves are expanding facilities for Apple

I would imagine they don't need LG to catch up in one year, but if they have whatever output from LG in addition to Sammy, it can help bridge the gap.

iPhones, at least for the foreseeable future, will never be available in abundance at launch. The only reason the 8 and 8 Plus haven't dropped to a few weeks delivery by now per previous launches is all due to the X. I am really curious to see how bad the shortage is with the X. I'm guessing just minutes after pre-order, ship times will drop to 3-4 weeks at least.

I still think it's likely they do. Chances are it will be low in supply I'm guessing. It will be interesting how much stock there will be and how quickly it sells out.

I'm still in two minds wether doing it via carrier or IUP is the best option.

I have pretty big hands, I can palm the Note 8 with no issues, but even then I don't think I'd find the iPhone X too small for my hands, although I think I'd find it too narrow. I just got my Note 8 today and I must say I am hating it a bit because it's way too narrow, just seems like a waste.
