The iPhone X will see shipping times slip within seconds/minutes of availability, I predict.

This^. If the rumors of 10,000/day production are to be believed, that would mean only roughly 900k units available for sale at launch if they’ve been producing for 3 months. Past iPhone releases have had first weekend sales numbers of 10 million, and those ship times usually slipped within the first hour or two of preorders.

I predict there are going to be an awful lot of pissed off people first on 10/27 and again at stores on 11/3.

Considering I couldn't find a jet black 7 plus at a T-Mobile until December and that was a third iteration, I can definitely see some people having to wait well into 2018.

I have pretty big hands, I can palm the Note 8 with no issues, but even then I don't think I'd find the iPhone X too small for my hands, although I think I'd find it too narrow. I just got my Note 8 today and I must say I am hating it a bit because it's way too narrow, just seems like a waste.
it is a very narrow phone. Makes it hard to type things on....
The iPhone X is even more narrow.....

For me it is going to be the actual physical size of the phone. It might just be too small for my hands.
Here is a size comparison of the latest flagships. Follow the link to see the actual size dimensions.

It is not looking realistic for me to purchase an iPhone X for launch, but I do want it.
The sizing thing is interesting as for me, the X looks like it would be a really perfect fit - comparing to those devices up there.

I haven't held a Note 8 yet, but a colleague at work has the S8 Plus which I find almost too tall, so the fact the Note 8 is taller really puts me off. I was into the idea of the Note for a time, but it is far too unweildly in that form factor for me. I have relatively small hands but do prefer a larger phone normally.

The whole launch is going to be a nightmare I imagine.
I haven't bought from Apple for launch for a few years now - the 5s was my last time (years ago!) but even back then it was an absolute nightmare. I daren't even think about how difficult its going to be this year with the X!

The jet black was delayed at launch I think

It was available right away from what I saw but it was in limited quantity. Apple misjudged the popularity of that color most likely.

I am not a huge conspiracy nut but it does bug me when the most popular Apple item ALWAYS seems to be short supplied. In a restaurant, you'd lose business if you could not correctly predict to keep enough of one product then keep from ordering too much of others to avoid waste.

Of course Apple is Apple. People will wait because unlike a restaurant, there isn't an alternative.

The problem with the Note 8 isn't that it's narrow. It's barely narrower than the Note 7, just 0.03 inches, or around 1%. The problem is that it is absurdly long at around 6% longer and it turned it into a clown phone.

Reminder: No-one thought the Note 7 was too narrow. It's about ratios.

Yeah, it seems narrow when compared to it's hight. But when stacked, it's wider than my essential phone, and that actually feels wider, but that's because the flat sides/screen and it's much shorter.

Really can't wait until next year when Samsung removes the top and bottom bezels, that will give the phone shape the exact same ratio as previously models.

Even all screen it still looks a little off to me but, I’ll be honest, I haven’t checked the ratios. I’m not convinced that all screen to the edge is the right way to go either but, after a point, if you’re dropping off the angle rapidly (to prevent screen distortion) it might just as well be a thin bezel.

The bezel kinda has a function of preventing accidental screen touches and minimising damage from falls. I’ll bet dollars to doughnuts that Samsung will put bezels back at some point.

And THIS is why I'm leaning towards waiting till after the new year to deal with the X. I don't feel like waiting up until midnight on the 27th just to throw my laptop against a wall when their servers crash.

I wish they would get rid of the curved screen, but I know that's not going to happen. I have gotten no (or almost none) false touches on my essential phone, and that has almost no bezel. And I did line up my Note 5 and Note 8, and basically the screen on the Note 8 fits perfectly over the entire body of the Note 5. I think that is why they went with that size, knowing that when they can do all screen it will be the same physical size. I also to like the taller screen, helps a ton in multitasking.

Sadly, I think iPhone X availability will have people wishing for the delays in receiving AirPods. :( I still recall seeing delivery times of 5-6 weeks for certain models of the 7 Plus (black and jet black, IIRC) after launch last year and those models will have been abundant compared to how many Xs will be up for sale. It's going to be brutal and Apple will take a well deserved lambasting for it.

Yup. But it won't matter. The harder it is for people to get, the more they'll want it.

Cannot wait to see what the eBay/Swappa market sells X's for. There are folks out there that are probably gonna fund a vacation off of flipping their X.

Be interesting how many cancel if their order is dated to 2018

This is my worry

Yup. Late to the party, creating a third and more expensive tier, and won't come close to meeting demands. Recipe for a disastrous launch.

I don't think the launch is going to be disastrous. People are going to eat up every 1K plus iPhone Apple makes as quickly as they can make them, with a waiting list to pay 1K plus for these iPhones that will probably stretch into the new year.

That sounds like the opposite of a disaster.

What will make it disastrous is if the phone has some killer bug. But odds of that are pretty slim.

My guess is next to zero in answer to your question. People would rather have a spot in line for this phone than go get something else.

No doubt it will be wildly successful for Apple. I meant disastrous for the customers that want one.
[doublepost=1505786243][/doublepost]The stories of the iPhone 8 not selling out as quickly indicates to me people are waiting to order the X.

Launch day availability even at this point of time confirms that it’s all over for phones with bezels.

It’s obvious the iPhone 8 should not exist but Apple were fearful that the X may not be popular because of the price and hence had he 8 as a backup plan.

My guess is we will see a huge uptick in 8/+ sales around November when most people realize they can't get one this year.

It's going to be down to an impulse purchase on the 27h for me. I am going to end up with either the Note 8 or the iPhone X. I don't really know at this point. The brightness spec concerns me because with all this shortage rumours floating about I am scared that Apple just went with a mid tier oled panel because it was the only one that could be mass produced with Apple's volume requirements. Samsung may not be able to make Note 8 class oleds in the volumes which Apple requires them and I don't want to end up paying 1100 for an average product. I have no doubt that display would be better than the LCD displays but I want it to be amongst the best.

I also love the S Pen features on the Note 8 and coupled with the display and design I want it just as much as the X. I think it looks better tHan the X.

if I don't manage to get my order in on the 27th I am getting the Note 8 for sure which I think is most likely going to happen. I would also end up saving some cash.

Kind of tempted to do something similar.

I'm going to order the iPhone x but if the date where i can get it is December or later i will get the note 8.

My plan is to order via apple's IUP and through EE and see what the delivery times are and cancel one of them depending on what is first.

Unless they extend the screen up and down where the bezels used to be and make it even taller! I agree with the word "clownish" when looking at my N8. I am starting to like it and come a round, but it still looks a bit comical. All the improvements made in holding it one handed by the narrow form factor and curved edges are weighed down by how much harder it is to hold one handed because it's so tall.
