Don't know why people would deliberately mix and match android and ios

Yes, they can co-exist but its a bit daft imho.
I'm about to take the plunge and mix Android into my iOS life for the first time soon. But I've been mixing and matching other Google services/apps with iOS as well as Microsoft stuff too and I get things done rather easily.

It's all about the experience each of us has and how the different things fit into our lives. Some prefer all Apple, others all Android and some don't mind mixing things. To each their own.

Basically no competition for Apple in the tablet space. OEMs have all but given up.
Don't think they have given up, it's just tablets are not high on people's shopping list with bigger phones around. Most people today still prefer to cart around a laptop. Tablet sales incl iPad sales has generally declined over the last few years.

I got to know from sammobile that my Note 5 will not get an Oreo update. I think I have done well to resist the temptation of the S8 and the Note 8. Needed to buy a secondary phone...stayed far away from all the Samsungs. Got an iPhone SE and a Moto G5S.

The Moto's camera is not as fast as Apple's but it is 60 bucks cheaper. Still, prefer the SE by a mile! iOS 11 runs smoothly on it. And I am pretty sure iOS 12 will too.

Android phones only get two major software updates so I think it wasn’t a surprise that the note 5 won’t be updated to Oreo.

My note 8 will get an update to Oreo and then a final update to android p. It won’t get Q.

With what happened with the Note 7, they should be extended the life of the Note 5 by a year, especially since it uses the Exynos chip and not snapdragon.

And this is how it should be. Even iPhones can't handle more then 2 software updates before they slow to a crawl.

I think thats more to do with how happy people generally are with the ipad they have. It does it's job and still gets good updates. I think the new pro's might of given more people reason to upgrade. Android tablets is a shame as this is how they could get more of apple's customers by having a tablet that works side by side with the phone.

Think the problem is that tablets never really replaced the laptops or MacBooks, which ever way you want to look at it. Both Android tablets and iPad are basically just mimicking what you are getting on an iPhone or an Android phone, but on a larger screen real estate.

With phones getting bigger and bigger, think people would prefer to just carry a single device, rather than a phone and a tablet.

Not sure that’s true. The iPad Pro has replaced my laptop. I’m sure for others it might too with IOS 11. Just the update I have been waiting for personally

This is the route I think Apple are trying to get it to

Don’t think people will ever triply depend on just a phone no matter how big phones get

Perhaps to some, but when we recently looked at stats, there was definately a decline in sales of tablets in general.

We have here in South Africa, also seen many users who have no interest in a tablet anymore. I suppose it's probably different in your part of the woods, but in SA, it seems tablet sales has taken a huge dip.

I quite like those iPad pros to be fair, and I think Apple iPads are generally well built, and performs well. Personally though, I still prefer an actual laptop or MacBook

Indeed. The ipad replaced my laptop for home use and I tend to upgrade my iPad about every 4 years. Both my daughters have iPad 3's that are still going strong.

In regards to larger phones I've seen a decline in the popularity of the Plus models in my personal experiences. At work pretty much everybody uses an iPhone and I know of only one in our office out of about 30 people. When the iPhone 6 cane out a few of my friends got the Plus and I think they all have regular 7's now. I'm sure they are popular elsewhere and articles keep telling us they are etc. Having an iPad though means I don't need a larger phone that's difficult to carry anyway. The market is still alive.

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
No time to test it as if you don't get it on preorder day you are looking at Jan delivery at the earliest.

I actually like tinkering. The problem is on Android there is no competent tablet or watch to tinker with. So I will have to use a Note 8 with an iPad and watch and I don't know how that will turn out.

Oh I’ll wait thanks, not spending 1140 pounds without doing so first, my 6S will last me till then :)
I will want to see what issues and faults it is first.

I don’t think it will be as sold at as rumours claim anyway, not in the UK when buying it sim free that’s for sure! Not at that price.

And I want to upgrade my iPad at some point too.

Absolute bunk. My 5s is flying (given that it's a 4 year old phone) on ios 11.
Look at the 2 posts above. You seem to be an exception. The iPhone 6 is horrendously slow on iOS 11. I can post a video showing a clean install iPhone 6 losing to a Moto G 2016 loading apps? Want it?

I really dont know what world these people live in. Its CLEARLY slower than IOS 10.
Im sure it will be fixed by 11.2 but people like that make Apple complacent and not care to improve.

Sure post the video. Won't prove anything comparing a 2015 phone with one a year later. But that still has nothing to do with my 5s and you can read the forums and see the usual divisive opinions that pervade every ios release.

Crawling? I have two 5s on ios 11, and they are far from crawling outside of Safari.
Its well and truly crawling for me and the other posters

The change to the inertial scrolling in Safari in IOS 11 is great. Previous IOS version "crawl" while using Safari.

That's nothing new. I have been enjoying that scrolling in Chrome for iOS for 4 years

i7guy is just opposing me for the sake of opposing. Its clear to anyone with a working pair of eyes and those who aren't brainwashed by Apple that its slower.
