So I only ordered my iPhone X on Wednesday afternoon with Vodafone.
Everyone was getting tracking numbers sent yesterday and I knew mine would be whenever they got stock again.

Wakes up this morning to a text from DPD (delivery company) at 5am with tracking info saying my phone will be coming today!

Never thought I'd see the day where Vodafone were actually impressive!
Guess I got lucky here!

Oh you can be sure you will!
I will do a nice comparisson to the Essential too. I only took the X out the box briefly, but it is basically the exact same size so they really are very close in terms of dimensions.
The X felt much more rounded and less industrial though. :)

When I get home later (it's a long day) I will get it set up and give some impressions.
You not going for an X then?

I am not sure on the X..... It is smaller than I like in most phones. So I need to go to an Apple store and play around with one before I make up my mind

True story. I have small hands for a guy :( and the Essential form factor has proven to be a big hit with me so I'm really excited that the X is the same.
I won't lie though, I REALLY struggle typing on the Essential due to how low down the keyboard is. The X looks to be similar even though there is a virtual grey bar beneath the keyboard but that seems to place it in the same kind of zone as the essentials keyboard is. We all know I prefer a physical keypad anyway :p but normally Apple's is the best one (and Gbaord) for my tastes so I'll at least have some options!

Happy iPhone X launch day. Hope everyone enjoys the X. This is Apple catching up at last. I'm excited for more people to enjoy a fuller screen experience.

Mine are delivering today but going to hold off from opening right away. We'll see how long that lasts!

So...QQ for anyone that has the X.....

1)To unlock the phone....do you have to tap the screen first...then it will unlock using FaceID?
2) can you just look at it to unlock it?
3)When it unlocks.....does it not go to the home screen?
4)Does it go to a notification screen first?

I just got my X today, constraints my a$$ my Verizon store had plenty of them and no lines at all. I give it a big resounding MEH, but that's a story another thread lol.

1) You can just raise it and not press anything and it will unlock with FaceID, then you still have to swipe up. FYI faceID is slow, it takes about a full second and if you add the swipe you could probably have unlocked with touchID 3-4 times.
2) yep as long as you raise to wake, I don't believe you can if you don't raise to wake but I'm not sure if maybe there is a setting for that. Don't forget the swipe.
3) When it unlocks it stays on the lock screen until you swipe up, then the home screen, redundant.
4) Yeah, the same notification screen as on the older iphones if you just hit the power button.

Other fun stuff about faceID: You can't really use it as is when phone is on your desk or in carholder, you have to actually put your face over/in front of the phone. I was hoping faceID would work on an angle such as having the phone on the desk right in front of me.

I'm seriously on the fence about keeping it, it's a marked DOWNGRADE from my 7 plus, but the X does have it's benefits and it's not all bad. I think I could deal with the faceID downgrade but not the screen downgrade, I wish they released a X-plus version. Oh well next year I guess.

Anyone else with years of big phone experiences will be really surprised. I think my last "regular" sized phone was maybe 7-8 years ago. Note 1/2/3/4/5/7 and the iPhone plus series has been my last 7-8 years. Make no mistake, with the X you ARE moving back to a non plus iPhone with a slightly larger screen. It's a phenomenal upgrade for the non plus iPhone users, it's a really awesome phone. But if you are used to a large screen it's definitely a downgrade.

Did they add something like Androids smart unlock? I would have thought going to face they would have added some other way to unlock if you're in the eco system.

You would think something as basic and obvious as smart unlock would be standard, but no I don't think so. I'm assuming you mean having it be unlocked when on a certain wifi, or a certain Bluetooth device?

Is it just like Samsung’s iris scanner or faster?

Also is the screen brighter han 7 Plus outside in the sun?

I'm not sure if my memory is reliable, but I seem to remember Samsung's iris scanner was quicker on the Note 8 but much less reliable. Screen brightness seems about equal, but I haven't tested it in strong sunlight yet, which was a huge weak point with my 7+, especially versus a brightness monster like the note 8.

Just turned mine on.
Hate to sound like someone from the iPhone forums but this screen is seriously yellow.
I haven't turned true tone off yet, but can't see it making a huge difference

Will hopefully get used to it!

Can you set it so that you can bypass the lockscreen without swiping like on Android? With TouchID, once it authenticates, the phone goes directly to the home screen,no swipe needed. FaceID should work similarly.

ArsTechnica review dropped. FaceID may be an annoyance for me on this phone.

"The success rate is high, but there is room for improvement. With many dozens of attempts in a day, it has failed to recognize me right away maybe twice a day since I set it up. Sometimes I just had to tweak the angle a little bit and it quickly resolved. Two times in the past four days, I’ve had to give up and enter my password.

It’s more frustrating that it almost always takes about a quarter or half second longer than you’d ideally want. It’s comparable to the first generation of Touch ID in this sense. The second generation made a big difference in that tech. Hopefully this phone’s successor will do the same."

"I was always able to use Face ID to unlock as far as the length of my arm when holding the phone. I was also pleasantly surprised by the horizontal angles at which it would work. Angling the phone vertically seemed more likely to trip it up. It also works in darkness. You might run into the most problems in heavy, direct sunlight, which could interfere with the tech. It could encounter trouble if there’s a bright light right behind your head, too."

"There are some things you could do before that you can’t now, though. For example, I sometimes place my phone on a table or desk and use it like a table-top screen. I can still wake it while it sits flat on a table by swiping up the screen to unlock, then swiping up again at the Face ID prompt to bring up the passcode instead. But you can’t use Face ID to log in as seamlessly as you could with Touch ID in this case, even if you try to awkwardly orient your face to look down at the screen (it won’t recognize you at that angle). You need to pick up the phone and hold it in front of your face."

Also the battery life is worse than the non Plus iPhone 8 weirdly enough.

Nope, no option for this at all, the swipe is forced and mandatory. It's really redundant and honestly IMO it's idiotic to have such a level of redundancy. Or at least we should have a toggle for it. There are NO other options unless you want to use your numeric code, or I guess no security at all but you still have to swipe.

My face ID fails here and there as well, but I've only had it a few hours. What kills me the most is it won't work on an angle, or only on a very slight angle. So if it's on my desk I have to hunch my face over the screen or pick the phone up. And yeah it definitely takes too long, what ends up happening to me is I raise the phone, swipe up right away, but then wait about a second for the face id to unlock.
