You can have both :)

S8 wireless charging seems pretty fast at around 2hrs instead of 1.5hrs with cable.

Fast wireless charging is fine but I honestly don't care about it. Fast charging period is what Apple needs to implement.

What Sammy and others need to do is make it so using your phone while it's fast charging doesn't slow down the charging. I believe OP5's Dash charging does this, not sure if any other OEM's do.

The iPhone 8 is looking good, like the modern flagship it should be.

I wonder if Apple will offer a second size option in 2018.

If rumors are to be believed about the Pixel 2 models, Google may also save all their flagship designs and features for one model, too; the Pixel XL 2. That would mean Apple will have all their flagship designs/features in a small phone, and Google will have all their flagship designs/features in a large phone.

Wireless charging for me all the way. If I never have to fumble around at 3am in the dark to connect another cable, or fidget with connecting a cable while careening down the highway in my car I'll be happy.

That's the biggest disappointment for me, the small screen size. 2nd biggest disappointment is the wasted screen space with whatever the function bar ends up being. Seeing how incredibly poplar the 7+ is, it's almost a given they will have a 8+ in 2018. It seems like a bad business decision to not have a 8+ in 2017, but I have a feeling they were constrained by supply and the logistics of a larger screen.

Think id plug it in before I went to bed or start driving, but that's me and makes more sense lol. No fumbling around. I've never had a wireless charger.

Ahh but then this thing called real life which sets in. You have to pick up the phone to check the baby cam, or you were browsing your phone at night after your wife went to sleep, or you get in and out of your car a bazillion times per day and have to plug in/out a bazillion times, etc etc.

I still don't understand the "it's not beneficial to me so why bother implementing it" thought process. I'm not saying that's what you are saying, but in my not so perfect world things just don't work out where I can plug the phone in and leave it plugged in for a long period of time. My charging time comes in many small spurts per day, with sometimes only a few minutes of charge time per session which all add up to keep me going.

Correct, im not saying that. I just dont need it as it wouldnt benefit me at all. It would just be something that i can do with my phone. And i didnt know they made a wireless charger for the car either. If its the same one as a cradle on your desk, that would seem like a pain in the arse.

When i had babies, we never had a baby cam either...hec they didnt even have smartphones then. How did i ever do anything? LOL.

I'm with ya! Tell me, do these wireless chargers work with a case on the phone? Or does the case need to be removed? (which would of course be more work than plugging in the cable :))

It's all about convenience, and sometimes convenience is a small thing multiplied by a million times per day. Of course everyone's definition of convenience is different, so I can't blame you for yours. Car wireless chargers are more upright where you just plop the phone in. Although I made my own car wireless charger when I had a Note 5 then Note 7 which was magnetic, so I simply touched the phone to the charger and the magnets grabbed it and the phone charged up, very easy when getting in and out of my car a bazillion times.

Usually they work just fine with a fairly thin case.

For your use case I'd say wireless charging is a huge plus and I'm not surprised you'd want it badly. For the people like me who charge our phones once a day, it's not a massive deal. If it becomes the standard then great.

would like the iphone 8 to be larger screen size but for OLED/wireless charging will accept it for a year until they have the 8+ next year with a 6 inch display maybe

BTW, these CAD renders based off a reliable leaker really gives us a good glimpse of what Google's Pixel 2 offerings might look like this year.

They're looking pretty sharp!

I sincerely hope there aren't major feature-differences between the two models, as has been rumored. Google should really continue offering no-compromise models. In this respect, they should be following Samsung, not Apple.

Indeed!

I'm just so shocked at the iPhone leaks and how much they remind me of Galaxy S7, Galaxy S8 range and Essential PH-1 and how more Android features are making it to iOS.

It's been that case for years and vice versa. I don't think any of these companies would be where they are in the market if they hadn't copied each other's innovations and features. I'm not really excited by any of them to be honest as the whole smartphone market is so saturated with very little in the way of new things getting interest. Big screens, glass backs, iris recognition, fingerprint scanners, wow. Price is my only concern going forward.

Just like when the Plus model came to be.

It's about time. I would argue it's still too slow considering you'll only get all these modern-day features and designs in one size, be in severely limited supply, and at a very expensive price point (I have to ask the question again, what does that make the 7S "flagships" then?).

In 2018, when Apple offers size options and the production prices level out a bit, that's when we'll really see things cooking. Of course, Apple operates on their own timetable. They can literally afford to wait.

Competition has finally awoken a beast.

Indeed.

And the more options that become available (and as options get better), the more people can make the choice that suits them best.

I think apple will surprise everyone and get the touch id working under the screen. To me thats a big advantage if they can get it done.

Well I made the switch yesterday. Decided on the LG G6 as I like the look of the device plus there was a promo and I got $200 in a prepaid MasterCard. So far I really like it, phone is fast and the switch wasn't as big as I thought so far.

This all but confirms the iPhone 8 design:

I'm excited. I don't think this is the year I switch back yet, but it's exciting nonetheless. It's what a modern Apple flagship should be.
Really hope apple puts in their take on an always on display. That cut out for the camera/sensors basically confirmes there will not be a white version.

A for me, (Mac keyboard broken, I apologize), I've been entertaining the thought of getting an Android this year. Android is much more open, while Apple has unapologetically touted a "less is more philosophy", replacing the headphone jack with a dongle.

However, I am concerned about my data getting in the hands of a hacker or the government.

A recent experience has thought me that grass seems to be always greener on the other side. On the other hand, live life my friend. Try it. You may love it or you may not but there is only one way to find out.

I hope so too! Being able to glance and get info, even if it's just for the time, is useful. One of those subtle things that you don't appreciate until you have it.

Another thing this design confirms is software keys. Like on Android, I've argued software keys are the way to go.

I like how on the S8 you can just hard press on the bottom and it takes you home. No need to even flip your finger from the buttom. Feels like the tactic engine.

Yes, I argue that it's a better use of a pressure-sensitive screen. Simple and clean -- an invisible home button that takes you home from anywhere or is used to wake the device. I love it. I also think it's clever that the home button moves ever so slightly to allay any fears of burn-in. Ditto for the AoD info.

Hopefully Apple comes up with their own version of it.

The question will be whether they'll also have Touch ID underneath that software home button. And I wonder how it'll interact with the software in general. In my earlier post, if the home screen looks like this:

... how will you double tap the home button to initiate app-switching? Many questions. Can't wait for the reveal! Apple is getting exciting again.

Pretty nice!

There are going to be amazing phone options toward the end of the year.
