I've had it happen earlier than 14 days.
So have I. Not that much on my iPhone but happens frequently on my iPad. I'll come to use it in the morning and it will ask for my pin. I guess it has rebooted over night.

I don't know if any android phones do this automatically but this actually helps with keeping the device, fluid and big free.

I used to reboot my device about once a week when I used android as a form of maintenance. I also regularly cleaned out my cache and cleared my ram and that kept my phone running smoothly. By doing this I never experienced any jankyness from the S4 onwards.

Any time I use any of my husband's phones they are always sluggish and this is because he does not maintain them. Once I've done the above mentioned things to his phones they become snappy again.

So it seems as though on iOS a lot of this is done periodically in the back ground. Whereas at least in the past on android I did it manually, but that isn't a problem for me as I like to have more control on android anyway. I know you can automatically set Samsung phones to reboot at a particular time (preferably overnight) on a weekly basis which is a handy feature.

This is a security thing that happens every 14 days or something, no(?)

I think there's also another trigger that's something like 24 hours after being used the last time. I'll hit this shorter trigger every now and then with my iPad, and I can tell it apart from a reboot by the fact that the LTE SIM PIN is not requested after the iOS passcode.

I think it's 48 hours after not been used you have to enter your pin.

iPhone 8 wireless charging reportedly not fast

Additionally, the report suggests that while the new iPhone will use the Qi wireless standard, Apple might lock it down using the same MFi chip that Apple requires for third-party accessories, so the Qi pad you might have laying around probably won't work.

Shame if true. There were earlier rumors that wireless charging won't even be activated until after the launch and via a software update.

So ironic that both Apple and some of their fans dismissed wireless charging because it's inductive, still connected to an outlet (<-- the dumbest reason of them all), and because it charges too slow. Now Apple is rumored to release wireless charging as one of their big features with exactly all three of those properties. Years later.

I still think it's great that Apple is catching up but man, way to be all Apple about it.

Apple customers are Already spending nearly 1300 dollars on just the phone excluding taxes, screen protectors and cases. Wireless charging might as well not exist as I ain't spending 100 bucks for charging pad.

I never expected it to be fast. Apple were already late to the game with wireless charging. They will probably save that for a later upgrade in a few years time. You can imagine you will only be able to use an Apple wireless charging pad too. Rumours are it won't even be ready at launch.

I am going to have to force myself not to see the keynote or the Macrumors iPhone sub fora. I know I won't be able to resist myself and will end up buying it.

Unfortunately I'm off work on the day of the keynote and the proposed release day. I'll have to find a way to keep myself occupied.

if the keynote is 12th september i will miss the event as i'm at work til 7pm..ugh

think i will go via on contract with EE. Don't want to pay over a grand for the new phone so will do the upgrade 12 month option. yeah it will be alot per month but i want to buy my phones each year and i don't want to give up a grand each year

You just posted, you are selling your iphones? So you are selling them and buying the newest iphone?

I wouldn't spend .$10 on a charging pad. I bought 5 genuine apple lightning cables a while ago and they serve my needs. Wireless charging, unless it's similar to the AW is more of a nuisance than a benefit.

Yep! On the s8 I set it to do an auto reboot once a week overnight.

Not sure if stock Android has this feature is not.

Also moving cable from the phone to the charger is not wireless, but portless (if that's even a word) charging.

The "wireless" in wireless charging is between the charging pad/stand and the smartphone. In that sense, isn't it wireless? Do you think Apple will call it something else? Portless vs wireless seems like a matter of semantics. The feature is still the same: you don't need to plug in a cable to begin charging.

I'd rather plug the cable in. At least i can use the phone in that case.

well if the apple wireless charging pad isn't fast thats not a deal breaker as more often than not I would use the pad only at night anyway and it taking ages to charge isn't an issue. I just hope we get the fast charging cable in the box.

Doesn't the battery degrade faster with fast charging?

That's cool. I'm pointing out where the "wireless" in wireless charging is referring to.

Probably.

Samsung promises 95% battery retention on the s8 models for one year, and 95% battery retention on the Note 8 for two years.

If that factors in fast charging, a standard feature across those two models in which they ship the phones with fast charging cables and plugs, I'd say there's nothing to really worry about.

The problem I am facing is that generally I upgrade yearly as I get bored with my phone after a year. I was going to go Android but considering how much I love my new IPad Pro 12.9 I want a perfect complement which is where the iPhone comes in. Here is no way I am going for a 7s as it's a 7 with wireless charging with the pad needing a separate purchase of 100. So the 8 it is. I just can't justify spending 1200 on a device I am going to upgrade next year so the only way I can fund my purchase to bring the price down to $969 is y selling my 7 Plus.

I was tired of that ancient design and the LCD display anyway.

Wireless charging is indeed nice as I don't need to fiddle with wires, but it's not something that I would pay over 900 for. The 8 and 7s both require a separate purchase of the pad so both the fast charging and the slow wireless charging are irrelavant to me.

I've always been confused by the definition of wireless with these sorts of gadgets. My Apple Watch isn't wireless as I have to pretty much attach a magnet to the back. Laying a phone down on a plugged in mat is just port-less charging I would agree. It's slightly more convenient in that it saves you a second or two, not a deal breaker for me though.

Wireless vs portless is semantics. You can charge without a cable between your charger and smartphone.

The conveniences are more than just not dealing with a wire, which, by the way, is nice, too. Luckily you can still charge your preferred way.

Apple seems to have decided it's a worthwhile convenience. It's one of their big features this year. I suspect many will enjoy it, too.

Apple have also decided to charge £1000+ for a mobile phone this year so I'm not hugely trusting of their decisions of late. If my phone/watch has wireless charging then great. If it doesn't, I don't care either way, much like OLED screens.
