If I were to get the iPhone 8 -- and I'm seriously thinking about it -- I'd definitely go all black to help with the camera design on the back. It just stands out way too much on the colored versions, though I'm sure the real/final devices will look nicer than these leaks. I am, historically, a white iPhone person.

I really hope prices of the iPhone 8 aren't as astronomical as they've been rumored. It's really shaping up to be the flagship iPhone that always should've been. The recent run of leaks (thanks HomePod!) of features have been very exciting.

EDIT: I also hope the front panels are black on all colored versions, ala the S8. That front top cutout in white or any other color, I think, would be a design mistake.

Apple says that every year ie the best iPhone ever.

Chances are it will be over $1,000. Take into consideration, a iPhone 7S Plus (256GB) already runs us $969.

Well, isn't it?

I don't think the iPhone 5 is better than the 5S, 6>6S, 6S>7...every iPhone is the best one ever.

The more I read about its specs, the more I am certain its going to be heavily overpriced. Apple's gonna milk this release for all its worth and more

Yeah, the price and availability will be huge hurdles, which is unfortunate because it's finally an iPhone that can live up to the flagship title.

Possibly, I don't buy all the rumours this year because they've been changed so much, but I don't buy this face recognition stuff, just sounds like an utterly over technical and over priced solution to them not being able to get Touch ID to work under the screen. Also when Samsung puts the finger print sensor behind the screen next years along with others, Apple will look a bit old fashioned with its face detection which sounds like it'll be constantly on?

A recent report says Samsung isn't rushing their FPS under the display tech. The report goes on to predict that we won't see it until the Note 9. By then, the iPhone 8S might have it figured out, too.

We'll see if the iPhone 8 can live up to the hype. I think it will overall even if it might not live up to each and every single hyped new feature. Remember, Apple catching up is the big deal (think when they finally introduced a Plus model to record-breaking success).

Either way, even if the iPhone 8 doesn't deliver on all fronts, it's a sign that Apple is waking up and putting in more effort than the previous couple of years. The future of the iPhone, I think, will be bright with the hardware more caught up. Hopefully iOS will see similar gains, too. I'm hoping the function bar will bring about a more consistent navigation experience. Generally speaking, I'm hoping for more consistency overall (for the love of god, stop asking me for my pin to "enable Touch ID"). I'm also hoping to see more customization, ability to set default apps, and a better keyboard with gesture typing.

Glass is going to be cool again!

Those that know me know that I love glass back designed phones. Some of my favorite phone designs are from Samsung, Sony, and the iPhone 4/4S. Welcome back to glass, Apple, if this is true.

So, this means will be able to take advantage of the 5.8-inch screen with it hidden. Well, that's great news if that's the case!

Yep. Liking more and more what I'm hearing with the iPhone 8. It's finally adopting features that made Android so great to use.

It's just so unfortunate about the price and availability. I wonder if people here will be as critical of Apple as they were of Google not supplying enough Pixels. I really can't wait to learn the official price.

Another general question: I wonder if using iOS on an iPhone 7S vs the iPhone 8 will feel functionally different? For example, if all navigation comes down to the function bar area so that it's in the same place every time for consistency, will that be different on a 7S model that doesn't have the function bar?

Is it normal that there are this many prototypes banding around?
My Instagram feed is full of tech reviewers with prototype iPhone / mock ups but I don't remember seeing this many models for previous releases?

FWIW, I really hate the look of the back finger print scanner and hope that it isn't on there. I also don't like that cut out that dips into the screen, those two things together feel and look very 'un-Apple'.

I keep saying to myself that I'm not tempted by the new iPhone and won't buy it, but if they finally give me a black front with a COPPER - NOT PINK!!! back then I may just have to dive in.
But the upcoming Pixel 2 could also be delicious so it leaves much food for thought. And a probable empty wallet.

I agree there should be criticism of available supply but I also think it’s not an entirely fair comparison with Google as the scale is likely 50 fold higher. Not being able to supply more than a million or two phones over the coarse of a year is quite different than being able to supply 50 million+.

I brought up this same concern back when the first leaks of this ‘function bar or area’ were revealed. The experience already started to fragment with the introduction of 3D Touch since no iPads nor the iPhone SE have it. Now Apple is going to introduce a new UI that’s specific to a single model of the iPhone? Apple fans can no longer fling the ‘fragmentation’ card at Android considering the exact same thing is now prevalent on iOS.

Well said. I think what will happen is what always happens: Now that Apple is doing it, fans will come to terms and realize that software fragmentation isn't that big of a deal.

There will be those that are going to have to come to terms with a few more things in order to accept the direction Apple is heading: OLED panels, going back to glass-designs, wireless charging, software-keys, etc. It's going to be great that iPhone users will finally get to enjoy these features.

iOS 11 nor the iPhone "x" hasn't been released. No one really knows what Apple has done until the reveal. There always are some surprises.

The more you see these iPhone 8 mock ups, the more you think,of the S8 design and the prospect it will cost HALF that of the iPhone yet have a more advanced screen... and also complete with finger print sensor even if it is in a silly place.
I personally am not digging the super small bezel that we are seeing around the entire screen on these iPhone 8 mockups. I much prefer how the screen appears to flow off of the side of the S8 (the screen doesn't curve much; it is much less intense than the S7 Edge).

I have such a silly reason I won't switch from iPhone to android, no not iMessage. I have a YouTube app on my iPhone called ProTube that I use to listen to music/debates/stories from YouTube in the background and even with the screen off, and it works seamlessly. From what I understand there is no android equivalent (unless you live in a country where you can have a paid subscription to YouTube), and THAT is the main reason I'm staying with the iPhone. It's the app I use the most, so I'm stuck. Im so tempted to pick up a Note 8 when it's released in about a month, but I know it will be a nightmare with no ProTube equivalent.

P.S. is it true that even with a paid subscription to YouTube there are a lot of content that will not stream in the background/screen-off on android?

There are workarounds. Start watching a YouTube video, plug in headphones with a mic/remote. Put phone in standby and YouTube stops, but press the mic play button and the audio will resume and allow you to listen in the background.

Thanx for the tip. I hope this will work on a note 8, I'd have to know for sure before I bought it though.

I am sure someone will be able to test here when it's released :)

Yes, I'll be the first to ask about this, for sure. :)
The best would be an alternative YouTube app, but Google has really cracked down on those, doubt there is a single one left on the play store:(
