You don't need the Play Store on Android. APKMirror is trustworthy.

I'm not as tech savvy as many here because I don't even know what APKMirror is , but I'll do some research. Sounds promising. ;)

Edit; maybe this is a stupid question, but let's say I found a ProTube type app on APKMirror, do I have to have a rooted device for it to work on my phone?

Nope. You download the APK, open it. Some dialogue will take you to your settings to let you turn on other sources. Samsung even has an option to let it be "just for this install" which is what I'd recommend.

That's effing brilliant. Thanks for all the help guys. Much appreciated. :D Looks like I'll finally give Android a shot.:)
I found an app called TubeMate on that apkmirror site that seems good. Don't know if anyone here has any experience with it, good or bad?

Yep. Liking more and more what I'm hearing with the iPhone 8. It's finally adopting features that made Android so great to use.

It's just so unfortunate about the price and availability. I wonder if people here will be as critical of Apple as they were of Google not supplying enough Pixels. I really can't wait to learn the official price.

Another general question: I wonder if using iOS on an iPhone 7S vs the iPhone 8 will feel functionally different? For example, if all navigation comes down to the function bar area so that it's in the same place every time for consistency, will that be different on a 7S model that doesn't have the function bar?
Think we fiqured this would be the case where you can make sure of the extra screen otherwise no point marketing it as 5.8 inches

The LG V30 has me more excited than the new iPhone

I'm personally still more excited about the iPhone 8. I want to see what Apple can do now that they're stepping up their game.

But the V30 is really looking mighty nice. I think Samsung in particular should be worried. This is going to really go head to head with the Note 8. It might be the better option, eg., the FPS location, for one.

What are your thoughts on iOS 11? While I'm excited to see Apple's hardware design, I lost most of my interest in the iPhone 8 after WWDC this year. After seeing that iOS 11 on the iPhone hadn't changed much, I figured I'd be with Android for a while still.

Living with Google Now, Google app integration, native split screen support, and great notification design for the past few months has really changed the way that I look at iOS. Unless there are some killer features of iOS 11 that Apple is waiting to announce with the iPhone 8, then hardware can only do so much for me.

I don't think I'm switching back to the iPhone this year myself, but it's exciting to see what iOS could do with the iPhone 8. I'm particularly interested in the function bar, and really hoping to see a more consistent navigation experience on iOS. I likely won't go back until that's sorted out. Plus, iOS desperately needs a better keyboard.

Along with all that you named for Android, I'd add a back button, a faster app-switching method, and a ton of other easier/faster/more consistent software experiences to the list of reasons why I'm likely going to stay on Android. It's actually much easier to use an Android device than an iOS device, contrary to popular belief.

I just have hope for the next couple of years for the iPhone.

But that is not to say Android is going to stay stagnant. In fact, I recently watched a more in-depth preview of Android O and I have to say, it's impressive:

Where iOS 11 really shines is in the tablet form. My iPad Air is getting old and is honestly hardly being used. With iOS 11, I might be tempted to update.

EDIT: One last thought: I'm also really slowing down my phone upgrading habits. I've just been so incredibly satisfied with the last couple of devices I've owned, that it's reaching diminishing returns. The S8 is the most worry-free phone I have ever had. If I'm honest, I really don't need to upgrade for some time. Of course, prior to that, the S7E was the most worry-free phone I ever had, too. ;)

This is way to big for me, but, so long as LG give it up to date hardware it's got the potential to be a Note 8 killer!
I'm still interested in the iPhone 8 especially as it's going to be smaller then the S8, don't want to see the price though!

Well there goes my dream of an OLED iPhone flying out of the window. $1000 excluding taxes for 64GB. Apple must be nuts pricing a model with such low storage at this price. At least the Galaxies have expandable storage which i can use for my media needs. I know I will have pay a $300 premium for top storage. This phone will cost the same as my 7 Plus did on release date ,next year and I am not paying flagship prices for year old hardware. Apple just ruined all my upgrade plans.

Ah well at least I get to enjoy my iPad Pro...

I am going to patiently wait for the next couple of weeks to see what the final design and pricing is going to be. However, the design leaks has me annoyed. The stupid two cut outs at the top, the smaller but still noticeable bezels (just get rid of them apple), the awful color choices (copper gold, really?). I almost jumped on the s8+ a while back, but I am glad I waited, and if apple doesn't deliver I will be getting an s8+ at a discount and will just deal with no iMessage.

Yep. I recently paid $17.99 for a 64GB SanDisk Ultra card for my new S8.

Switching was hard for me, but things like this helped! :)
Exactly. People keep saying Note 8 is in the same ballpark when it isn't. Storage is a very big deal for me. 64GB vs 64GB with MicroSD is a huge difference.

The IPhone 8 is most definitely the TitanXP equivalent of the Smartphone industry.

A recent report says Samsung isn't rushing their FPS under the display tech. The report goes on to predict that we won't see it until the Note 9. By then, the iPhone 8S might have it figured out, too.

We'll see if the iPhone 8 can live up to the hype. I think it will overall even if it might not live up to each and every single hyped new feature. Remember, Apple catching up is the big deal (think when they finally introduced a Plus model to record-breaking success).

Either way, even if the iPhone 8 doesn't deliver on all fronts, it's a sign that Apple is waking up and putting in more effort than the previous couple of years. The future of the iPhone, I think, will be bright with the hardware more caught up. Hopefully iOS will see similar gains, too. I'm hoping the function bar will bring about a more consistent navigation experience. Generally speaking, I'm hoping for more consistency overall (for the love of god, stop asking me for my pin to "enable Touch ID"). I'm also hoping to see more customization, ability to set default apps, and a better keyboard with gesture typing.

Glass is going to be cool again!

Those that know me know that I love glass back designed phones. Some of my favorite phone designs are from Samsung, Sony, and the iPhone 4/4S. Welcome back to glass, Apple, if this is true.
I dont see apple rushing to allow default apps. The average person does not care and they use whats stock.
For me I use all stock except Mail and Maps. I would use Mail if gmail push worked like a while back.
And though Maps is not bad now I still prefer google maps.

But notes, reminders, calendar, safari etc.. In my opinion are all good.

Im glad apple finally increased the scrolling speed in Safari in IOS 11, much better.

The way I read these pole results, it's suggests to me about a third of all iPhone users and either switching or considering a switch.
doubt it

If they didn't last year they sure as hell won't this year not with the biggest hyped phone ever coming.

I tried switching to a Nexus 6P 64GB for a few weeks. The goal was to sell my iPhone 7 Plus 128GB to help recoup costs but it never sold on eBay. Perhaps I was asking too much but I also found out during the experience that I have the iPhone that will work on any network.

In the end, I felt like I was losing too much by selling on eBay and I missed having an iPhone. I will miss how great Google Assistant is on Android but hopefully Siri will be much better with the next iOS release.

My iPhone is now unlocked as well. I paid it off fully. I don't think I will be upgrading for awhile though.

iPhone 8 wireless charging reportedly not fast

Additionally, the report suggests that while the new iPhone will use the Qi wireless standard, Apple might lock it down using the same MFi chip that Apple requires for third-party accessories, so the Qi pad you might have laying around probably won't work.

Shame if true. There were earlier rumors that wireless charging won't even be activated until after the launch and via a software update.

So ironic that both Apple and some of their fans dismissed wireless charging because it's inductive, still connected to an outlet (<-- the dumbest reason of them all), and because it charges too slow. Now Apple is rumored to release wireless charging as one of their big features with exactly all three of those properties. Years later.

I still think it's great that Apple is catching up but man, way to be all Apple about it.
