I mean footprint size yes. Anything bigger than the current 4.7" and I really won't buy it. If the screen increases within that then that's only positive. I was offered a 6S Plus last year as a work phone and declined it. I just hate large phones and won't even entertain buying them.

I'll see how much the iPhone 8 is next September but if the price is still high, I'd rather get a 7S with a screen I prefer anyway.

Just my opinion but I thought the same regarding the larger screen iPads and iPhones till I tried them out. I thought the 7 lus was a huge giant of a phone but once I got used to it, I would never go down to a smaller screen. I used to buy 9.7 iPads but after I tried out the 12.9, I have gotten used to it over the past couple of weeks and I am actually finding it tiring to read on the smaller 9.7. You should try out the larger devices at least

I don't need to try them. I know how big the phone is and know anything bigger than what I have is useless for me. I don't wear clothes that accommodate huge phones and don't need a Plus model. I have just bought a new 9.7" iPad that fulfils any large screen needs.

Ah I see :)

Well the 7 Plus doesn't fit in my pockets either. I always carry it in my hand which can feel tiring at first but I have gotten used to it over the past year

I would say this is true for both software and hardware, but you're right. The software over the past couple of years has vastly improved on the Android-side, both in stability and speed, and certainly in features.

I've argued that Android is easier and faster to use at doing most things, and offers a more consistent experience overall. While at the same time, being highly customizable. Android does its best to cater to you and all your unique preferences; whereas we must cater to iOS.

I've said this before: I'd be happy if they simply updated some of their native apps. Email and calendar, to name two.

Not to succumb to the old Apple bashing joke but in 2017 the ability to edit and send a screen shot directly after taking it isn't a huge feature upgrade.

It's quite possible that Apple will retain the LCD iPhones as the budget lineup like how the iPad Is whilst the 5.8 inch and 6.4 inch OLED iPhones will be the iPhone Pro Editions just like the 10.5 and 12.9 iPads. All the innovation like TrueTone and ProMotion will be reserved for the Pro lineup with the budget lineup getting the usual spec bumps. Looks like not only has Apple increased my three yearly spending on iPads by 300 but also my iPhone spending.
Or it won't happen like that. Ipads will be lcd in the foreseeable future, which is why lcd is not going away.
By the time Apple uses MicroLES, Samsung will already be on some other superior technology while we wait for Apple to catch up considering how much Apple is ripping off the Samsung flagship range according to rumours and some established facts.
Or this won't happen like you think either. As apple is investing heavily in display technology. The way it could happen is that apple leap-frogs Samsung and they never catch up. Come to think of it, apples lcd technology was besting oled one year ago.

Dammit, all this is so gorgeous and enticing, I know my wallet is going to have a gaping hole in it in a few weeks

Its not irrelevant. Its a big deal. There is a reason why the 256GB iPhone costs $200 more than the 32 GB version. At $930 I cant store my entire music library and 4k movies in the S8 which would be impossible on the iPhone 8.

Even with a margin of error the price is still $1000 for 64GB.
To me external storage is not relevant. I had a blackberry with an sd card and I never used it. But the bottom line still is the Note 8 is within spitting distance of the alleged price of the Iphone x edition.

That's true if the rumours are correct but the major difference is the Note will come down in price 1 month and 2 months after launch. iPhones hold the same value pretty much up to the next iPhone is launched. That's good for people who like to sell on and retain the value, but we certainly pay for it initially. It's a lot of money to pay just for an operating system and the bragging rights to one of the latest iPhones. Plus there seems to be much better deals on contract for flagship Android phones whereas iPhones have strict pricing, almost like it's a privilege.

That's because Apple require the carriers to charge premium prices, if a carrier doesn't agree to Apples terms on iPhone pricing then they aren't allowed to sell the iPhone. Theirs been many reports on this.
Hence the iPhone remains at a high price, phones like the Note 8 will drop in price.
LG have priced the new V30 at an RRP of 900 euros, massively expensive this year for a flagship, but it'll drop in price to well below that over time.

If I wanted a Note 8, I would wait a few months and get it for probably 200 less if not more. With the iPhone well I'm looking at the iPhone 7, when the new ones are out and it drops in price, just need to decide on phone screen size?
I like the idea of the iPhone 8, but I don't like the price of £1100 or more which is the rumour for the mid storage model, or the complete abolition of the home button for gestures or face scanning.
But mostly I'm not sure if buying a phone that costs more then my iPad Pro, TV or any other gadget I own would really be any value and worth it?

Apple charge £839 including taxes for the new iPad Pro 10.5" WITH cellular radios and SIM card slot, and 256GB of storage! Chuck in the Apple Pencil and a case and it's still cheaper then the rumoured iPhone 8 price for 256GB!

This is just a way for Apple to regain that absurdly high amount of profits they earned in 2014. If Apple keeps increasing the prices every 3 years or so so we end up paying $1600-1700 for the base iPhone in 2021 or so I won't be able to afford paying for it yearly. I am already stretching thin as it is paying 1200 for the 256Gb variant.

It's worse than the "Pro" premium they charged for iPads back in 2015. The 9.7 iPad pro costed $150 more than their usual $499 iPad whilst the iPhone 8 costs $300 more than the base iPhone 7S.

I'm not so miffed with the lower range iPad pricing. Last weekend I got a 2017 iPad 9.7" 32GB for £339 with a 2 year warranty. That's £40 less than I paid for a 16GB iPad Air back in 2013. I wish Apple were more considerate with their phones as Brexit clearly doesn't affect every product they sell here.

They've been really terrible with pricing since brexit.

Yes, the profits they earned from their customer base buying their products in 2014, 2015, 2016. Remember no customers, no profits.

But didn't Samsung raise prices on the galaxy s8 and note 8? Or does that just not count (in your eyes only).

None of those quarters showed a increase on the level the iPhone 6 did. They were also littered with declines here and there. The iPhone 8mis going to,lead Apple into an unrealistically huge amount of profits even by their standards as almost the entire iPhone customer base has been clamouring for an oled iPhone for years. It really is time Apple caught up with Samsung in design and display.

But this iPhone edition is a milking their customer base dry for the pricing they are setting at. The iPhone is almost costing as much as a Cyberpower gaming laptop.

What's laughable is that the Note 8 is a complete value buy in front of the iphone 8. With expandable storage I can store my music library in it without any issues for $930. I dont use Apple Music or cloud services as cell coverage is patchy and it sucks my battery which leads to me placing the 7 Plus in airplane mode most of the time. It also has the fingerprint scanner which Apple is going to drop. Not to mention the Note 8 has a bigger screen which Apple will compete with next year with the iPhone Plus edition. It also has spen support while Apple Pencil won't work with the iPhone 8

The iPhone 8 is to blame for the note 8 price. Samsung knew how much the iPhone 8 would cost and undercut it just enough so that customers would not feel ripped off.

The S8 is not even in the same league as the iPhone 8 in price. Almost half price and it looks the same from the front and has the same features.

Actually it's not just Apple. I heard AMD has overpriced their VEGA GPU in the UK to scandalous levels so much so that AMD actually made NVIDIA GTX 1080ti look like a budget gpu.

Doesn't matter. Apple has been showing stellar financial results since Tim took top position, while everyone was waiting for apple to implode. The iphone x edition, might produce stellar profits it people like it and buy it. But it would be inline with what apple has already earned. I don't know who this mythical entire iphone customer base you are referring to, unless it's the 20 people here on MR.

I don't feel like I'm being milked dry, so if you do, you have some great alternatives out there.

The note 8 is a value buy to you not me. This is always evidenced by the fact each of us has a different price/value equation. The SD card is a meaningless feature to me and wouldn't affect my buying decision one way or another.

I use apple cloud services and like them better than the competition. If I really had no cell signal, I would take along my companion ipod, no biggie, but then there are other issues to be considered.

If allegedly apple will drop the finger print scanner from the iphone x edition, they will replace the functionality with some equivalent and better.

so now you are blaming apple for the price of the s8? That's rich.

So according to your logic a Ferrari and Civic are the same, because they share exactly the same features: wheels, tires, brakes, engine, radio etc?

They didn't raise them excessively like the iPhone 8.

I don't see why they need to replace the fingerprint scanner. Samsung managed to have a fingerprint scanner, Iris scanning, facial reconfnition and voice unlock with the note 8. On top of this you can use the trusted places which is a feature of the android OS to unlock you phone.

Yet the iPhone 8 will only have facial recognition. That's pretty poor imo.

I'm not sure what excessively means, surely a value call based on individual circumstances.

As far as the fingerprint scanner, no one knows what apple is doing until they announce it. I feel confident in saying, whatever they do, it will be the same on the rumored 7s to the current generation and the same or better on the iphone x edition to the current generation. I like touch id myself, it works so seamlessly(for me) other unlock methods are not really needed (imo).

Things with darker/black backgrounds definitely look better than with white ones:

dieeu6mumaiuq4h-large.jpg

We're looking at the possibility of no home button at all. Very interesting. I dig the move to gestures. I just hope it's all consistent.

Hmm, but those aren't official. I'm sure Apple will black out that area even with white screened apps. It's kind of ironic that their idiotic white on off white theme might come back to haunt them. Or maybe one of their software engineers will finally use their phone in the dark/at night and realize they need a dark theme.

Anyhow I'm having trouble understanding why people are complaining. It's either a full top bezel AND a status bar under that taking up space, or combining the 2 and saving space. I'd much rather the latter.

Brexit is an excuse, when you've got over 200 billion just sat there doing nothing, you could swallow a bit of cost in the interim for one markets economy, but not Apple. I was highlighting how low the cost of an iPad Pro is to the rumoured iPhone 8 cost!
Crazy.

Still seeing the old arguement, which is better. iPhone or Galaxy S. Apple is better, blah, blah, blah!
Its really old. You are either a iOS person or you arent. Same with Android. I dont get why many here have to have both but its your money. IMO both Samsung and Apple are pricing these phones out of the range of many.

Im not an iOS guy so i dont care about the iPhones but im also not spending what Samsung wants for their GS8 either. They can both take a hike. ONLY when the GS8 comes down enough to my liking will i consider it. Until then ill just get a Motorola which are half the price of a GS8. I still have my GS7 which ive had since April 2016 and works fine.
Apple can just shove it with their prices on a phone that is well behind in features.

In regards to your comment about "only when the s8 comes down..." -- the S8 models have been heavily discounted recently. Just FYI.
