I think Apples biggest mistake in recent years was removing the headphone jack. Surveys in the UK suggest price increases and the loss of this feature were the main reasons for poor sales of the iPhone 7 here. Losing 3D on the screen would be stupid IMO. It's starting to become established and has turned into a very useful feature.

It's seen as a fiddly thing to have to use the adapter, alas many others have now followed...

Just look at the crazy prices for O2 and the Note 8, every single tarif is an upfront £50 ish charge, and then from £66 a month for 24 months, want free text and calls and 30gb data on a 12 month upgrade programme? Hats £91 a month!!! Plus you still have to pay for the phone up front charge!

http://www.o2.co.uk/shop/tariff/sam...-973e8adbcaf6&planId=&contractType=paymonthly

Crazy prices, well worth waiting a few months and just buying the Note 8 for 2 to 300 pound off its RRP.
But that's because we know that's what will happen with the Note 8, now if this is what one carrier is charging for it, just imagine the iPhone 8 246GB costing £1100 or more!

I think it could be a minimum of £75 a month in 24 month contract and up front phone cost of what £50 to £100! And let's not forget in the UK on some areas you get no choice of carrier? It's still down to who's signal you can get despite what they advertise.

There is also nothing mentioned about 3D Touch. It was supposed to be difficult getting it to work with OLED. Maybe that's not there as well

I'm thinking this as in all these apparent leaked documents about iOS 11 on the new iPhone, I don't recall 3D Touch being mentioned at all. If that is the case, you'll have to use gestures and nothing else to control everything and that's just a mess, with a bezelless phone and a case, it'll be difficult.

Like the headphone jack and touch id on the 8...Seriously your bias is so strong you flat out say silly stuff half the time and I don't think you need to, you are a smart guy imo but you need to back it down a notch. Just like the whole display discussion, Display mate rated the OLED panel in the Note 8 as the best they have ever seen yet you still think the LCD in the iPhone is better, its laughable.
Seriously, you gonna argue semantics?

Since the 5s, leaks have gotten better. There was no surprise for the 6s and 7 and 6

Oh and by the way Apple just removed a function with Touch ID

[doublepost=1504326425][/doublepost]

Not saying Samsung but oled has been on android phones for years. What does the iPhone 8 have on the s8m for double he price
Wrong, there was plenty of surprises for the 6s. Additionally, allegedly the functionality of Touch ID, if removed, has been supplanted with faster, safer, more secure. It’s not like removing an sd card or ir blaster or Live Photo’s.
[doublepost=1504347787][/doublepost]
I don't need to argue with you, I'm just trying to help you. Be my guest keep making stupid statements for all I care.
We’re not arguing we’re having an idiotic discussion on semantics. There’s a difference. I just responded to your stupid statement.

May i ask what surprises?

It's been replaced with FaceID. FaceID needs to, you know, scan your face before it unlocks. TouchID unlocks my phone even before I remove it from the pocket. Can FaceID even tell apart twins?

And I haven't even gotten started on the security issues. If a thief takes your phone flashes it in your face and runs away there's nothing you can do to stop him rummaging through your data. Can anyone scan my face to unlock the phone while I am sleeping?

The sensor on the Galaxy S8 was fooled by an extremely high resolution photo. Will the iPhone 8?

Touch ID has been used by kids to unlock a sleeping mommy’s phone? Is that secure? How much can you tell the forum about iPhone x edition biometrics? Did you read the white paper?

Other than the form factor, which wasn’t a surprise anyway, the entirety of what the 6s was unknown.

No it was already known that it would have 3D touch before it launched. The only surprise was that it had 2 GB of ram. That's all. You say it was a surprise but nothing was added apart form 3D touch, live photos and an extra GB of ram.

And now Apple just made it even easier for the kids. Earlier someone had to grasp my finger and put it on the phone which means a higher chance of me waking up. When I turn off the phone before I sleep TouchID doesn't even work. With FaceID just hover the phone over the face and phone unlocked.

I don't need to read the white paper as the Galaxy Note 8 already has this feature including the fp sensor.

We knew about 3DT. We knew about design. We knew about the processor.

Heck if you check out the iPhone 8 renders from January they match the final product. We knew about the OLED display since March 2016 last year. And that's not even taking into consideration Apple's controlled leaks in the home pod firmware.

I don't think we knew about 3dt. Didn't know about the soc or other internals or hey Siri and lots of other things. Yes we did know about the headphone jack.

And yes please share your finding of the Apple white paper on the iPhone x biometric security. The fact that kids unlocked their mommy's phone means Touch ID wasn't secure enough. However just turn off the phone and face Id won't work either, if that's a concern. I'd rather have that than my thumb cut off.

Stop being your usual deliberate naive person. Of course these things were known:

Let's see. That article about 3dt was less 1 month away from launch. So I say, no, that wasn't really outed until the home stretch.

As far as everything else, we'll see who is naive and who is on the money and what gets outed the day before the launch so that the various tipsters of the internet can claim they knew about this before launch. And how easy it is for a kid to unlock the mommy's phone using face id, whilst they are sleeping.

I've been entertaining the thought of getting an Android this year.

To go from having one arm tied behind your back (Apple) to blind frustration and continually cheap or fugly hardware and software UX design aesthetic? (Yes, here's looking at you, Android)

Jesus. Why would you do that? Enough.

Don't remember ever reading about low sales for the iphone 7. From memory sales were good everywhere.

Yeap, just as expected you deliberately back track, you go from stating 'these things were not known before launch' to 'these story's were only 1 month before launch'...

You carry on, I'll go back to ignoring your posts...

Android phone are not ugly anymore and the hardware certainly isn't cheap. In fact Apple will be following suit and using amoled displays, near bezeless display and face unlock. All things that have been on android for a while.

Case makers seem to believe this year's iPhones will be called iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone Edition.

That’s because apple can’t innovate so they must copy.

Thank you for that honest response.

I don't know if the "iphone x" will be a good value, because I haven't seen it. I do know that the Note 8 at 950 and the Iphone x at $999 are on the same side of expensive and one is not a better value than the other as others have tried to make that argument. But I was generically stating I find a good value proposition in apples hardware and software for my own reasons.

It may seem like some of the childish tit-for-tat on this forum that would make it appear as if two teenagers were arguing about whose dad can beat up whose dad, but for me at least, that is not the case. I buy all of my phones and my families phones without subsidies or loans, that includes: two 5s, 1 phone 6, 1 phone 6s, 1 iphone 6s+ and 1 iphone 7, plus applecare on all of them. In addition, we have two macbook pros in the house and two ipads, and this weekend I'm getting the ipad pro. And will be on the lookout for an AW 3.

Whether or not I want the "iphone x" the jury is out on this, at the very least, I'm getting the 7s, hopefully the 7s+.

Yes to your point, apple is expensive and now, so is Samsung.

As an aside, my two 5s are now back in my possession running ios 11. Up front, ios 11 is the release ios 6 should have been.

My prediction is this will be a wild quarter for apple and we only have 11 days to witness it.
Yes both are expensive but as always, Apple is more expensive while still playing catch-up up to the competition in features. The iPhone is Apples biggest seller by far, so they shouldn't be pricing it out of range for alot of people. They will still sell but I bet they dont sell as many at those prices. At least Samsung s prices come down at some point. Apple hasn't ever learned to do that. Even back when Apple wasnt very popular they didn't lower their prices.

Don't remember ever reading about low sales for the iphone 7. From memory sales were good everywhere.
They were good but there were never shortages or the rush of previous releases. The BBC did an article last week with the chairman of Carphone Warehouse who suggested sales had been slower since the removal of the headphone jack. I thought he was partially right with the main reason being the obvious price hike.

PS: To add, I see very few 7's in the industry I work in and it's very iPhone dominant. That could be because contracts are 2 years or people did what my company did and supplied the 6S to staff last year instead of the 7. It was a hell of a lot cheaper even on business tariffs.

I don't think we knew about 3dt.

Here is the 3D Touch rumor 7 months before launch

https://www.cultofmac.com/312029/iphone-6s-get-apple-watchs-3d-touch-tech/

Didn't know about the soc
Leaked waaaay back in May

http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/iphone-6s-tipped-to-add-12mp-camera-and-a9-chip-2934139

The rumor mill even attributed the iPhone 7 features to the 6s

3) No dual-lens camera system:

or other internals or hey Siri and lots of other things.
We knew absolutely everything. The Hey Siri part is common sense as The Apple Watch had it months before the iPhone did.

You can put out as many excuses that you like. At the end of the day, TouchID used to unlock the phone seamlessly when it was inside my pocket and I was already up and running typing iMessage the second my eyes turn to the screen.

With FaceID I will have to stare at the phone to unlock it and when I reach for the phone in pitch darkness it wont even open as it probably cant scan my face.

All this is a list of negatives which is why the Note 8 opted to put that sensor in the back as function over form.

Apple cant figure out how to put the fingerprint sensor under the screen like they planned so they are going for form over function. TouchID may very well return in the S cycle once Apple figures out how to put it under the swcreen

You still seem to be stuck in 2011. Android has caught up and surpassed iOS in many areas. Project Treble should solve the probelm of Android updates as ell

You call this ugly?

Than what does that make this?

Well said! I personally would say the S8 is a nice looking phone. The leaked photo of the next iPhone isn’t that nice. The front of the phone kind of reminds me of the Motorola Droid RAZR M for some reason but I can’t place why.

Yeap, here you go:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-41034559

These higher priced handsets won't sell as well, but they are hoping the new iPhone will make up for the low iPhone 7 sales, not sure how if it's the most expensive handset in their stores...
